225/40 18 Tire Review Highlights

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 81% while driving a BMW 218d Active Tourer
Driving on mostly motorways for 15000 spirited miles
I fitted 4 of these on M140i 2 years ago. These are amazing all round tires. Much beterr grip then the Pilot Super Sports * the car came with. However this tires lacks some steering feel, its steers very light, coming from worn super sports it almost felt my tires where still in the air, when driving away after fitting. The limit in dry of the tires is very far, its almost impossible to reach on public roads. In the wet is feels like you are driving on rails. The are very comfortable, they smooth out ridges and other road imperfections. The traction was great untill the last drive, I got 25k km of out of the tires. The sidewall looks nice, but the tires look a bit streched on the rim and bit too much for my liking. I can highly recommend these. However for the M140i the Pilot Sport 4S became availble so I went for these now.

Kumho Ecsta Sport PS72 rated 85% while driving a Mazda 3 Series
Driving on mostly town for 500 spirited miles
At first I need to say, I bought them as brand new for price 65€ per tire, so it's stands as value price tire. And that is their problem, it's so cheap, why? This tires behave better in compare to CSC5, so I dont understand why they're so cheap.

This tire is much more quiet (while label say 72dB), much more comfy on harsh roads (in here in Czechia), petrol consumption is lover.

Now question about handling. It's new tire, so it takes time to sit, but first impressions are great. Grip is comparable to CSC5 and other premium tires. Gives not much response as my previous tire Potenza RE002 that I had for few hundreds kms. But still, handling is amazing. On curved roads, in city streets and roundabouts they're really great and fun to drive. I'm much more confident and can cut same corners and roundabouts in higher speeds than with previous tires. And quietly without squeak.
This summer isnt much rainy, so I have not much reference for wet conditions, but for that minimum that I drove in wet, it's ok. Grips firmly, turns easily and ride without wheel spin or warning light on dashboard.
I also tried higher speeds in motorway, it's calm and quiet, holding straight line easily and without vibrations (from tires).

Thats my first impressions. Even it's low cost tire, it's really great and premium tire brand beater.

Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport rated 92% while driving a Audi S3
Driving on mostly country roads for 700 spirited miles
I live in Peak District and commute daily over Snake Pass into Sheffield using PS5 in summer and XC 2 Nov / April about 60k total. R8 road for commuting in summer but a challenge in winter ,temp and snow/ ice wise, hence needing All Season. ( Nov / April). Interested in what Michelin were saying about 3 Sport being = 2 PS5 and Alpine 5. So invested in a set July 23rd. Scrubbed them in for 200 miles. Fast roaded em some 500 miles to date. Temps of 12 c to 25 c. Wet and dry, Result in my humble experience ... At fast road speed in both wet and dry they are as near as dam it the equv of PS 5s at above temps. Only a track day could possibly show a difference. I think Autum / Early Spring were I see temps, over The Snake Pass of - 2c to 10c these new 3 Sports will have the edge over PS5. I assume due to Mountain Snow Flake Snow / Ice performance will be as per XC2s , ie. More than enough in U.K. Jonathan Benson talked about more sporty and responsive. He is correct. But they seem no more noisey or uncomfortable that the CX2s. Time will tell re milage but I honestly think they are as near as PS5s in the summer as to be in real terms the same. And for a price difference of only a couple of Beers a corner lol . WHY NOT . Hope this helps those considering.

Continental AllSeasonContact 2 rated 88% while driving a BMW 118d M Sport
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 average miles
I have now driven over 12,000 miles on this set. I use my car for work, travelling weekly across the UK, from the south in summer to the north in winter, experience all manner of seasons, temperatures and road conditions. I drive a mix of motorways, A and B roads, motorway speeds and tootling about town and everything in between. I also use the run flat version. Firstly, I have to mention the wear. These tires are possibly the longest wearing tire I’ve ever used. They are wearing away slowly and evenly. I’m going to get many more miles from this set, they are incredible in terms of wear. Now, more generally, possibly the best All Season tire I’ve ever used and even of the best tires I’ve used ever. Performance in heat and cold is incredible. The car always feel sure footed and on rails. I’m not driving like a rally or F1 driver, but for what I’m doing, these tires feel responsive, safe and predictable and are still fun in sport mode on a twisty back road. Wet handling is superb. I have driven in snow and these tires are perfectly good at getting you through a snow storm or snow covered roads. Comfort is a little harsh particularly as I’m using the run flats, but not uncomfortable and I actually prefer that kind of feedback anyway. As reviewed, these tires really are good at delivering well across all situations, even the current heatwaves we are having aren’t really bothering these tires. So, I’m very happy and unless you are a boy racer, I think these tires are going to suit most applications well and last quite a while doing it.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 67% while driving a Volkswagen Golf R estate
Driving on mostly town for 3000 easy going miles
I do like these tires they are grippy in both wet and dry and have massive amounts of confidence in wet conditions, I've never felt unsafe with these tires in the wet they are simply superb. They replaced Michelin PS5 that was just as good but wanted to try these out as I had seen positive reviews of it being great.
Wear rate seems to be ok I haven't seen a lot of wear after 3000 miles all 4 tires are still 6.5-7mm tread depth.
Now here is the downside of these tires they are absolutely horrible to drive on rough asphalt roads, they generate so much rumbling noise. I live in London where most of the speed limit is 20mph and they are dreadfully noisy on old rough asphalt at this speed. I thought that I had bad wheel bearings but as soon as I drive on newly laid road that is less than a year old they are so quiet.
Goodyear what have you done to these tires I hade the assy 3 many years ago on my old mk7 GTI and they were fantastic and did not have any of this tire noise.
I don't know maybe something has changed with these tires as they are now rated for EV cars I wonder if they need higher tire pressures, my mk7.5 golf R estate are rated for 38psi and this is the pressure I set on these initially, I had to lower it to 36psi to make the tires less noisy but losing out on mpg.
I cant wait to get these tires worn down so I can replace them.

Continental AllSeasonContact 2 rated 82% while driving a SEAT LEON 1.8TSI
Driving on mostly town for 25000 spirited miles
I bought these tires in 2019 secondhand with 6,5 mm of wear. They were a year old at the point I got them. Meaning dot 2018. I have to replace them now as they are running for around 6-7 years.

I live in Eastern Europe = Very hot summers (30-38'C), a fair bit of rainy days and a couple of weeks of snow on the streets that aren't really cleaned. I'm a spirited driver but not making large mileages. Having said that, my noteable moments as a review

Bad moments first
- At six year mark I went to a seaside country of Montenegro for a week. The temps there, are, I'd say, around 38-40'C constantly. The tires were like jelly. Braking was very inconsistent depending on road exposure to sun and the heat. I could feel how they stick to the asphalt, roll, stretch and then unstick. After I came back, I noticed that first time after six years, my tires had those dreaded holes where pieces of it have detached/broken off. Having said this, I think @tirereviews should/could make a more elaborate tests on hot summer roads and how these tires behave there.
- At six year mark in winter period, several sub zero days caught the remaining water and ice appeared. They tires were completely useless. I went in a very short, very steep street, barely moving the car (knowing there was probably some ice). I just skidded and stopped when the wheel hit the horizontal ground of intersecting street. Needless to say I got scared in my pants.
- At seven year mark - got stuck in the mud one day. The rain came pouring that day and I couldn't get out the parking place haha.

Good moments
- At two years mark (tires three year old by then) I had a couple run ins with large puddle on a dark country road. Nothing happened.
- At five, as well as six year mark, I had two sudden heavy breakings on the highway. The sky broke over us in a matter of minutes. The rain flooded everything so much so, the truck in front became a blur from the amount of water pouring at us. From driving 130km/h, we went into crawl mode at 50/60km/h in the matter of minutes. At this point I was impressed as I was sure I'd simply skid and hit the truck from behind.
- At six year mark (same as Ice story above) we had some heavy snow. I waited for the streets to be moderately clean so I can drive. No problems up the hill or down as long as there is no clear ice. Compacted or regular snow, no problems at all.

General observations; not necessarily good or bad.
- The tires are on the soft side (compared to season tire) and I can feel the sidewall bending slightly when steering. Nothing you don't get used to, but there it is. Other than that, after running them for 6/7 years absolutely no problem with them.
- After a few hot city summers the tire edges started looking a bit scorched. However, I never had any problems and the scorched layer would wear off.
- Seat Leons MK2 don't generally have a very good sound insulation (Compared to Golf 5/6) so when driving above 100km/h you can hear the tires being a part of your conversation with others. It's not an unpleasant sound, but it's there. Not sure if it's the tire or sound insulation on the car.

Other than the infamous sea-side episode where the behaved like jelly, I am really satisfied with them. I'm now tempted to buy Goodyear Vector 4 Gen 3. Not sure what to expect.

Continental PureContact LS rated 80% while driving a Acura TSX
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
Overall very solid all-season tire. Coming from Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 tires you do loose some sporty handling and grip, but do gain much better treadlife. Wish tire had a bit more feedback and it is slightly louder of a tire, but more luxury feeling in the sense it isolates vibrations better. Wet grip is still good.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 60% while driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Mk. 7.5
Driving on mostly country roads for 1500 spirited miles
I purchased these ~1500miles ago. I had needed to replace sport contact 7’s that had worn out after 6 months of use. I have been please with the appearance, noise and sub limit grip and price on these tires. They were ~£10 cheaper than a replacement set of continentals. As for sub limit grip they do have plenty of grip in the wet and dry.

Unfortunately when I compare them with the SC7’s I had I’ve grown to hate these tires. They have nothing left on or over the limit. And when you do go over the limit the SC7’s would generate predictable oversteer the Goodyears just plow straight on. There’s also very little feel in the tire at the limit, feels quite numb. Maybe they will have great life that will outweigh these negatives however I’d rather buy tires a bit more frequently than have an almighty crash on a Scottish country road because my car stopped turning.

Hankook Ventus Evo rated 93% while driving a Mazda 3 SkyactiV
Driving on a combination of roads for 200 spirited miles
This is just an initaial review. I fitted them 1,5 weeks ago since then I have driven in every road condition. In the dry it is perfect compared to my previous Bridgestone Turanza. Lot of grip and the steering is predictable but not with the most feedback. That is not a problem for me. During the corners the car is so stable and i took every one with ease, it is so fun. The biggest upgrade from the Bridgestones is the wet performance. Driving swiftly is so easy with these tires, in the corners there is no slipping or anything like that. My car is FWD and ZERO understeer during wet cornering also on older bad tarmac. For braking, i had to stop quickly only one time. It was safe and that is the most important thing for me. Aquaplaning performance also very impressive, you can go through the water without any slip or “swimming”. Compared to my winter set which is a 205/60 R16 the comfort is also great in my opinion. On my previous car I had the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 and on my fathers car there were a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4. Both of them were pretty good tires and this Hankook evo is in the same league as the PS4 and the Asymmetric 5. Next year i will write a long term review about wear and worn performance. I would recommend this Hankooks for everyone who is looking for a great everyday tire with sporty driving characteristics and i think for hot hatches like a Hyundai i20N or more powerful vehicles it also a great choice.

Driving on a combination of roads for 2500 spirited miles
Another good winter with these tires. They continue to offer good wear, and very progressive handling. As the early spring has been warm here, you can feel them become a little less accurate, but still handle and grip well, even in relatively warm weather.

Very impressive for most of tire life. Surprisingly effective in snow when new even when s worn off
Quiet at first very noisy when worn ever with frequent tire rotation. Replaced tires early due to high noise after several seasons. Lots of tread left and still performed well. But sounded like bad wheel bearing, replaced only because of noise on Highway
