Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tire tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Falken Ziex ZE310 Ecorun demonstrates the narrowing gap between mid-range and premium tires, matching Bridgestone's overall score to tie for fourth place. The Falken particularly impresses in dry conditions, achieving second-best dry braking performance (36.3 meters) and third-place dry handling times. It delivers solid subjective handling feedback (third place) and maintains reasonable wet performance with mid-pack results across most wet categories. Its aquaplaning resistance is mixed, with good straight-line performance but below-average results in curved aquaplaning tests. With middle-of-the-pack rolling resistance and reasonable comfort scores, the Falken represents excellent value at €336 - significantly less expensive than the premium competitors while delivering comparable performance in many key categories.

The Falken Ziex ZE 310 EcoRun achieves only a satisfactory overall result, primarily due to its dry performance. On dry surfaces, it fails to provide precise steering feedback, making it difficult for drivers to adjust the steering angle for curves accurately, which precludes a good rating. Its handling at the limit is also rated as just satisfactory, though it does receive a good rating for its braking distance. In wet conditions, the Falken Ziex ZE 310 EcoRun performs better, securing good ratings in braking distance measurements and aquaplaning resistance, but narrowly misses a good rating in handling. While the vehicle can be safely driven on the course, increased grip and precision would improve its performance. Environmentally, the Falken Ziex ZE 310 EcoRun only achieves a satisfactory rating. It scores well for projected mileage and wear, but its status as the heaviest tire in the test leads to only an adequate rating in that criterion. Its fuel consumption is barely rated as good, and sustainability, particularly for tires produced in Turkey, is deemed adequate.

I’m looking to replace a set of bridgestones which came with my Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo from new. It seems to be an awkward tire size at 215/40/17. I was hoping for all seasons, but there’s only a choice of 2. So I decided on summer tires. I’ve sort of narrowed it down to the Falken ZIEX ZE310 and the Hankook Ventus Prime 3. Which would you recommend ?

Both are excellent tires, getting great reviews. The Hankook might have the edge in wear, but overall they're very similar tires.

Is the Falken ZIEX ZE310 EcoRun suitable for a SUV 4x4 which is only used on road? My car is a 2014 ford Kuga 2.0 titanium powershift. 235 x 55 R17 tires

As long as you meet the load index required by your SUV, there's no reason not to use the ZE310.

I have a Golf 7 1.4TSi 122BHP with 205/55 X16 German OEM Dunlop Blue Response tires. These are internally noisy and have very soft sidewalls leading to sloppy handling. I am proposing to chage them to other 205/55 X16V tires. Falken ZE310, Hankook Prime 3 K125 and Bridgestone T005 have been suggested as possible replacements. The Falkens have a very low external noise performance but I not convinced that this is a reliable guide to the internal noise. I had a very bad expeiuence with German OEM Dunlop tires on a new BMW 316i in the past and I wonder if the Blue Response tires are of the same ilk? i.e. poor OEM tires. Internal noise & wet grip are the most important parameters for the replacements and I am willing to trade off ride comfort with slightly stiffer sidewalls. Any comments you have would be much appreciated. Many thanks for the most helpful web site.

Unfortunately all modern tires have soft sidewalls as it reduces rolling resistance. You are correct in thinking there isn't necessarily a correlation between external and internal noise, but there is often a link. I have no personal experience with the ZE310 but I have seen tests note it's a good handling tire for its class, so maybe worth a try! One thing worth remembering is that stiffer sidewalls will transmit more vibration through to the chassis increasing internal noise.

I have a VW Passat 59 plate and need new tires. Should I go for the Falken Ziex ZE310 Ecorun or the Falken Azenis FK510? Both look like good mid range tires and recommended by your website.

If your priority is comfort, the ZE310, if it's sporty driving, the FK510 is the correct tire.

The group test of the 205/55 X 16 tires was really good. I have a Golf 7 1.4 with this size of tire and am contemplating a change to Falken. VW fitted 205/55 X16 91H tires to this car in late 2014. Could you please tell me why 94V Falken ZIEX ZE310 tires were used in the test? Did Falken recommend them or were they the only ones available in this size? The 94V version is available locally at a very good price. Thanks BJ

This was the recommended size by Falken, but the 91H version has done well in other tests too.

Are these a good bet for a Lexus NX300h in 225/60/18?

If you can find the correct size and load rating I'm sure they'd be a very good match.
December 29, 2022

I’m looking for a the most sporty tire in the not very popular 205/50r15 size, so that means no Michelin/Continental/Goodyear or even Maxxis Primetra. I’ve narrowed it down to the Falken ZE310 Ecorun and the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2. I’m not worried about noise or comfort, just subjective handling. Which would you plump for?

I've not tried the Hankook but I would never recommend the ZE310 for a sporty feel.

What can you tell us, if anything, about the replacement for this? The upcoming ZE320. Cheers!

As of yet there is no official information about the ZE320, and it's not yet appearing in the EPREL database.

Review Summary

Based on 104 user reviews

Across 104 reviews, the Falken ZIEX ZE310 EcoRun is most often described as a strong value summer tire with confident wet and dry grip (including good aquaplaning resistance) and notably low road noise. Many drivers also praise its predictable, safe handling and generally good wear for the money, with a high rate of repeat purchases. The main recurring downside is higher rolling resistance leading to increased fuel consumption, and some users note a softer sidewall/less sharp steering response that makes it feel less sporty or a bit vague when pushed.

Strengths
  • Very quiet / low road noise
  • Strong wet grip and good aquaplaning resistance
  • Good dry grip and braking performance
  • Excellent value for money / price-performance
  • Predictable
  • Confidence-inspiring handling
  • Generally good wear/longevity for the price
Areas for Improvement
  • Higher rolling resistance leading to worse fuel economy
  • Soft sidewalls / slightly vague steering response and less sporty feel
  • Ride can feel firm/harsh on rough roads for some vehicles/setups

Given 47% while driving a Mercedes Benz E Class (245/45 R17) on mostly town for 1,500 easy going miles
After i read a lot of good reviews on this tire i decided to try it on my mercedes E200.
After a couple of months of use they are by far the worst tires i have ever had on my car.
In dry condition they are good with good grip and quiet ride. But in wet condition they are dangerous specially in conditions where it is dry and then you have a little water on the street they glide on the street like they are passing over oil.
I am already changing them after a couple of months of use, i won't buying them again.

Given 83% while driving a Audi A3 (205/55R16/ R) on for 40,000 miles
I used the tires for about 40,000 km on two different vehicles. They showed above average performance in both dry and rainy weather. After 40,000 km, the tire depth decreased to 4 mm in terms of wear. I was extremely pleased in terms of comfort, it competes head to head with high-end brands in terms of silence. In short, Falken is a complete price-performance tire. I would consider buying it again.

Given 80% while driving a Toyota Yaris Mk4 Hybrid 1.5 (XP210, M15A FXE) (175/65 R15) on mostly town for 25,000 average miles
Very good tires overall, tried in very wet, wet and super dry/hot conditions. Impressed with the outcome. I must confirm that i don't do high speeds in my excess of 100-100km/h.

Insisted in buying again but had to make do with falken sm-110 as that was available. Will review those accordingly. As for wear and tear, tires been on car for 5 years daily driving rear are almost untouched and front started cracking hence needing replacing, still totally driveable on dry

Given 89% while driving a Renault Megane (205/60 R16) on for 45,000 miles
I've driven them 70.000 km for 5 years. Excellent wet and dry performance, car still handles pretty good in both wet and dry conditions. My previous tires were michelin primacy 4. stiffer and noisier than michelins but the sidewalls are so strong. Also no sidewall cracks in my tires.

I want to buy it again but they no longer produce 92 load index for new ziex.

Given 84% while driving a Renault Twingo RS 133 Cup (195/40 R17) on for 17,000 miles
3 years on

Have run the Falkens over 2 + [1/2] full sets.

Car is Renault Twingo RS. Cup chassis "Silverstone" ltd edition.

Pretty specific size 195-40/17 so not a lot out there.

Have zero complaints about falkens in wet dry or during winter - as long as you drive to the "season".

Surprising in the wet, excellent in dry. Wear is good. My tires come as XL Vs

It may well be the chassis that is allowing them to flourish.

Seasonally, there are better out there.

But as an all rounder they are v effective and the price is really good to say the least.

In fact I will go as far as to say performance to £/$ wise they are a steal.

Very impressed with wear on these tires
Put them on my kia at 280,000kms, now at 302,000kms and showing very little signs of wear with almost full tread depth still.
Do quite a bit of dirt road driving also and no problems at all.

Given 75% while driving a Ford Fiesta (195/50 R15) on mostly town for 600 spirited miles
I bought these to replace the generic Chinese tires that came with my Fiesta Mk8 when I bought it. Those old ones caused a few oversteer moments when joining the motorway, so I decided it was time for a change. The first impression after switching was that the oversteer issues disappeared, and all four wheels now feel much more planted, at least in dry and hot conditions.

Front-end grip is good and gives a clear sense of what the car is doing. You can easily tell whether you still have traction or are starting to lose it. Braking performance is also decent, with quick and predictable reactions. Ride comfort has improved noticeably too, with a softer response over sharp-edged potholes.

Given the price and the tires they replaced, this might sound like a very positive review. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend these as a first choice for a powerful or performance-oriented car, but if you’re looking for a solid, economical tire for a ten-year-old city car that mostly drives in dry, warm conditions, these Falkens are a pretty good option.

Given 83% while driving a Honda HRV (215/60 R16) on a combination of roads for 18,500 average miles
Used these tires for about 30k km so far. I think the tires performs great, in both dry or wet. My point of reference are against my parent's car with continental ecocontact 6q, which gave me no feedback in the wet, and actually aquaplaned.

Which is something I never experience here, I think the feedback and response from these tires are good.

Only think that's weaker for these tires are the rolling resistants, which is quite high. So my fuel consumption went up a bit compared to my older toyo nanoenergy 3.

The tires are also quite quiet, especially considering they're not very expensive. Would certainly consider getting falken again.

Given 83% while driving a Volkswagen (B8) 1.4 TSI (150 Hp) DSG ACT (215/60 R16) on mostly motorways for 65 average miles
I bought my car secondhand. The buyer told me the tires had been replaced, but I didn't check, believing them. When I decided to replace the tires, I learned that the tires hadn't been replaced, and they had been used for about six years (including my own use) and covered about 70,000 km. Thankfully, I haven't experienced any problems, so I'm replacing them. Since the tires have been trouble-free for so long, I bought the same ones again.

I have these tires on my 2005 Citroen c2 vts. I wear these tires Only on summer because i have another set of wheels with winter tires. I am very happy with their performance on dry and wet! I don't have a lot of options on my dimension 195/45/16 i highly recommend that tire. If the new falken ziex ze320 launch in my dimension i Will put a set of the new ones. otherwise i am looking for kumho hs52 and the same falken ziex ze 310 again

Given 83% while driving a Ford Focus (215/55 R16) on for 40,000 miles
I have been using Falken tires for 10 years. I can say that they are very successful in terms of sound insulation. Since I am in the Mediterranean region, if you do not adjust the air level of the tires properly after a certain period of time due to high temperatures in the summer, cracks occur. But I have not seen any loss of tread in the tires during this period. I only changed my tires because they were out of date.
