Michelin EU label data

66 of the 170 tires on record carry EU label data. These are the range's label headliners, using each tire's best available size figures.

A Best wet grip

28 tires reach EU wet grip class A. The highest scoring:

A Lowest rolling resistance

The most fuel efficient choice: 16 tires reach rolling resistance class A. The highest scoring:

66dB Quietest tires

The quietest tires in the range are labelled from 66 dB external noise:

Label values come from the EU EPREL database and vary by size - the figures here are each tire's best declared size. Wet grip and rolling resistance run from class A (best) to E; noise is the measured drive-by figure. A good label is a floor, not a verdict: the tests and rankings above tell you far more.

New Michelin tires

The newest arrival in the range is the Michelin X Ice Snow+. 7 tires have joined in the last two years:

The most recent reviews, in their own words

93%
Michelin Primacy 5 205-55-16 Volkswagen Golf 6,000 miles October 29, 2026

The tires are very silent and comfortable. Despite this they are very grippy in the dry and wet and give a good feedback. Driven in 40+ degrees in summer until now in rainy 5 degrees autumn and they make the drive 100% secure.

92%
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S 245-40-19 Nissan 370Z 18,000 miles October 29, 2026

The wet and dry grip has been exceptional with low road noise and moderate harshness. Handling precision and responsiveness have been good, not exceptional. The tires have held inflation pressure very well with minimal leakage. This is my second set and unless Michelin comes out with a better max performance summer tire, I'll buy them again.

51%
Michelin Primacy 4 235-45-20 Renault Austral Full hybrid 14,000 miles October 28, 2026

These tires are still dangerous in cold damp conditions, they behave like budget tires. I know they’re summer tires but their prime operating window is so narrow, and the performance falls off a cliff face. They’re so bad I had to get them checked to see if they were fake.

78%
Michelin Alpin 5 245-45-18 BMW 530e xDrive 8,000 miles October 28, 2026

The Alpin 5 is a reliable, comfortable tire that is perfect for European winters with lots of rain but little snow and ice. I mainly use them for city driving and on the autobahn at speeds up to 200 km/h when conditions allow, and I really enjoy the ride.

83%
Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy 255-45-19 6,500 miles October 28, 2026

After 10,000 km, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 Energy is one of the best set-and-forget tires I have tried—it handles grip, high-speed stability, and noise so effortlessly across all weather conditions for daily driving with occasional spirited driving. While it does get slightly noisier as it approaches 10,000 km, tire noise remains very well controlled overall without any harsh cabin drone. Energy efficiency is good for a UHP tire, achieving ~12X Wh/km on a typical 20 km commute of 80% highway and 20% city traffic. The only area where you're left wanting more is ride comfort, as it can feel a bit firm over sharp bumps and rough road seams.

Michelin Defender LTX MS2 265-65-18 Lexus GX460 60,000 miles October 28, 2026

Have 60k mi on this current set but I have put various versions of the Michelin LTX on all my SUVs since 1999. Have hundreds of thousands of miles on probably 8 sets over the years. Great handling, great in winter weather, have never let me down. Lowest rolling resistance for better gas mileage. Highly recommended.

Review Your Tires

Where this data comes from

Rankings combine independent test results with owner reviews submitted through this site, each naming the car, the tire, the size and the distance covered. Reviews are checked by hand before publication, and the page rebuilds automatically as new evidence arrives.

About the TR Score

The Tire Reviews Score rates each tire out of 10 using independent test results and the full body of owner reviews, weighted by how much evidence backs them.

Who does the testing

Every test published as a Tire Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tires independently since 2007.
