Does the tire have good rim protection? Size 235/40/R18?

Rim protection largely depends on tire size. However, the sizes of the Premium Contact 7 I have tested do not feature a particularly big rim protector. This is in line with the tire category being touring. Rim protection is now largely relegated to just ultra-high-performance tires.

Both good tires, quite close in overall performance. The SportContact 7 is the one if you want a slightly more sporty drive, and the PremiumContact 7 is a little more comfort bias.

If you've seen the tests you know as much as I do. Both excellent tires. The PC7 has the slight edge at the moment in grip but the Goodyear is always excellent value.

I've not seen any SEAL versions of the PC7. They might exist in certain OE sizes, they will be clearly marked as SEAL tires when shopping for your size if so.

In the 18" test the PC7 and PS5 felt very similar, any loss of sportyness was comparing against the previous tire, the PC6.

Just finishing this test now so check out YouTube next week, but to answer directly, both tires now feel very similar. I would suggest fitting the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 instead.
Is PC7 actually an UHP tire like PS⁵ and Asy 6? Some test result show that not huge performance difference between PC7 and Asy6/PS⁵

The PC7 is a bit of a confusing tire as it covers both HP and UHP. In the larger sizes, 17" and above it is certainly a rival to the PS5 and Asymmetric 6.

The PC7 is a good mix of touring and sports, so in theory should meet all your requirements. Hopefully it will turn your boiled egg into something more exciting, maybe scrambled egg.
Is new premium contact 7 softer or the same as premium contact 6? Which is more comfortable?

The PremiumContact 7 offers a great balance of touring longevity, comfort, and sufficiently precise handling to keep you safe at higher speeds and in unexpected situations. Might be because of the car (heavy), but the wear and handling was not superior. Managed to destroy one in early lifetime with a sharp edge, and now I finally had a tire blowout while just cruising on a normal road. Never happened to me before over 35 years driving

Amazing tire would not consider anything else for a daly driven car. Dry performance is not as great as one from Premium Contact 6, altough steering response is better. Wet performance is superb, in heavy rain it feels like driving on dry. Highway driving they are comfortable and quiet and stable. Overtime the wear did not seem to impact neither wet or dry performance.

Switching over from Crossclimate 2. Driving around 30,000 km/year. Premium Contact 7 has great handling and much less roll in the corners. The performance in the wet is really good to the point I'm excited for the rainy weather. So far, I've driven around 3,000 km with them, mostly in dry and they perform great - they give the car so much control.
Unfortunately, they feel extremely loud. Especially on the coarse Danish asphalt it feels excessive. When there is a new smooth asphalt, it's perfectly fine, but otherwise there is a constant, noticeable sound coming out of them.
I guess depending on what you're looking for in the tire Premium Contact 7 could be an amazing. If you're after good handling, safety and great performance in the rain, you'll be happy with these. But if you're looking for quiet touring tire, look somewhere else.

After breaking in, these tires show their real self.
And I have to say, they are now absolutely amazing. Their comfort is the same or better than my previous T005s.
They grip! They steer! They are predictable, linear. Absolutely perfect tires!
They just needed to break in. You can see that, with the same pressure, they sit lower; their sidewalls have softened up.
I run 32/28 psi F/R, and although this pressure is on the higher end of the spectrum for my load capacity and actual loading conditions, they are super comfortable. This was my main criticism when I first fitted them.
Their turn-in response has become fully linear; they load up and turn, not in 2 steps as when first fitted!
What can I say? I really really really like them. And I am quite peculiar with what I like in tires.
To conclude, these are some of the best 16" tires I have ever driven. They are worth every penny!

    Well, well, well,
    Finally, I decided to change out my 7-year-old T005s. As you probably have read, I had previously fitted the T005 in many, many, many vehicles, sizes, and dimensions, as well as the T6s in 18inches.

    I've driven the PC7s for around 160km now, and I can give you my initial impressions.
    Dry and wet grip is supreme. Sadly, I can't compare them to brand new T005s, but I can tell you they are T6 level and above.

    The tires are very, very much touring optimized, meaning that off-center response, the first 10 or so degrees of wheel input, is very soft. Meaning that center weighting of the steering wheel is low, and the tires feel very progressive.

    Even more progressive than the arguably softer sidewalled T005s.
    The same type of progressivity also applies when loaded mid-corner, and you ask for more load, the front end loads up progressively, while the T005s load a bit more regressively, or let's say linearly.

    In fact, although the softer T005 sidewall led to lower steering accuracy, the changes in steering input were consistently damped. The PC7 is null -> null -> load up and turn.

    This is something I don't really like as it causes a snake-like behavior between the front and rear end of the vehicle, although when highly loaded up, they do feel sharper than the T005, but in transient average load conditions, they feel much more progressive.

    They seem like tires that like higher pressures; my 30/26 psi F/R, which was the sweet spot for my T005s, seems to exacerbate their super progressive behavior.

    Noise-wise, they are less noisy than the T005s when rolling. Comfort-wise, they are a bit firmer than new T005s but surely much more comfortable than end-of-life T005s.

    All in all, I need more time with them after completely breaking in to assess their subjective qualities, fuel consumption, final comfort, and noise.

I had these tires on my Skoda Kodiaq (215/65 R17 99V) for around 41,000 km, driving mostly in the city and on the highway. Grip was excellent in both wet and dry conditions. Noise was moderate and comfort was good. They held up reasonably well until a point - when it was time to replace them, the two rears were really worn out, while one of the fronts was still in relatively good shape. Unfortunately the other front got cut on the sidewall during a vacation, so I ended up having to replace all four earlier than I would have liked.
In the end I didn't go with the same tires again. I opted for the 103V XL size, mainly because I believe it'll hold up better on the sidewalls and generally on the bad, pothole-filled Greek roads. I also figured I'd try a different brand, since I always go with Continental or Michelin, so I ended up choosing the Goodyear EfficientGrip 2 SUV 215/65 R17 103V XL. Overall though, I was very happy with the Continentals while I had them.

Very good grip in wet and dry conditions. Good cornering; the car feels like it's on rails. Average fuel consumption. Average comfort and noise levels. Very safe.

Previously used: Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2. The Continental feels much safer; I do miss the comfort, quietness, and fuel economy of the Goodyear, but the Continental is unbeatable when it comes to safety.

A great tire with tremendous grip. It feels more sporty than touring, but it offers a lot of comfort, though it's quite noisy. It's not terribly bothersome, but other tires are a bit quieter. Wear is very high. From 7.5mm to 6.0-5.2mm in one season. That's quite a lot. These tires will last me two years, so I won't buy them for that reason.
