Continental WinterContact TS 870 P
WatchThe Continental WinterContact TS 870 P is a premium ultra high performance winter tire that delivers consistently high confidence in real-world winter driving and in independent testing. It stands out for secure wet grip and braking, stable dry-road behaviour and a generally calm, comfortable ride. Snow traction is capable and predictable for typical European winters, though it is not the outright benchmark for ice or severe Nordic-style conditions. Its main drawback is value: it commands a higher price than many rivals.

Questions and Answers for the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P
Ask a questionI have been Winter driving on Michelin Pilot Alpin 4 for a number of years and with living and working in the countryside they are good. However a new car has meant a move from 18" to 19" rims. The 19" rim has tire size of 225/35R19 fitted. There are not many UHP Winter tires in this size, particularly the Continental Winter Contact TS870P. The closest that is offered for this tire is a 235/35R19. This means that they are 10mm wider and possibly 3mm taller. What are the issues with fitting this slightly larger tire?

Review Summary
Based on 23 user reviews
Drivers rate the Continental WinterContact TS 870 P very highly overall, praising its confident wet performance (strong grip and braking) and solid, stable behavior on dry roads for a winter tire. Many also highlight low road noise and good comfort, with several reporting respectable tread life over multiple seasons and high mileage. Snow performance is generally described as predictable and capable, but a recurring caveat is that ice/snow traction isn't “stud-level” or class-leading for harsher Nordic conditions. The most common downsides are higher purchase price and a less sporty steering feel/turn-in compared with sharper performance-focused alternatives.
Strengths
- Excellent wet grip and braking (including heavy rain/slush)
- Strong all-round winter traction and predictable handling
- Comfortable ride with low road noise
- Stable at highway speeds and confidence-inspiring in daily driving
- Good tread life/wear reported by multi-season users
Areas for Improvement
- High purchase price/value concerns
- Steering feel/turn-in not very sharp (can feel soft/numb vs sportier tires)
- Ice/snow grip not exceptional compared with studded or nordic-focused winter tires

Dry handling/traction excellent.
Wear is OK,
Wet handling - all good
Ice/snow- I would say the weakest part of tire. Comfort fantastic - definetely quiter than summer Bridgestone Turanza t005…
Consumption - not so big diference to summer tire.
I have them on Opel Insignia- recommend to all!
I did used them a lot in the rain, but yesterday had unexpected encounter with snow and they handled perfect! Really great stuff!
After around 20'000km they got 5mm left, the only bad thing is the increased price, next winter i think i will get Pirelli's Cinturato Winter 2.
Continental work well in every condition and it's so much more comfortable.

Even at high speeds (I've tried them up to 220 km/h), the car feels very stable on the road. After about 5000km, they have over 8mm of tread left, so I expect to get quite a few more seasons out of them. Overall a very good tire that I would happily buy again
