Nexen N Fera Sport SU2

The Nexen N Fera Sport SU2 is a mid-range ultra high performance summer tire that blends reassuring everyday grip with a notably civilised driving experience for the money. User feedback often highlights strong dry and wet traction and predictable behaviour, while independent tests regularly praise low noise, comfort and excellent aquaplaning resistance. Overall, it tends to perform best as a fast-road tire rather than a sharp, track-style option, with some clear compromises in refinement over time and efficiency.

Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tire tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Nexen N'Fera Sport finishes ninth with short braking distances in both wet and dry conditions and good overall safety margins. It qualifies as a solid mid-range choice. The noted handling weakness is a slightly delayed turn-in response, which affects steering precision. Pass-by noise is low, placing it among the quieter tires in the test.

10th/10
Nexen N'Fera Sport came last on 128 points but still earned a "recommended" rating, underscoring that no tire in this test was truly poor. Its clearest weakness was braking: it scored just 19 out of 30 in wet braking and 23 out of 30 in dry braking after posting the longest stopping distances on both surfaces — 34.73 metres dry and 28.34 metres wet, nearly four metres and almost a full car length behind the best in the wet. Its dry safety score of 42 was the worst in the field, with a handling result of just 12 out of 20. Yet it showed a completely different side elsewhere: its wet handling score of 16 was mid-pack, its curve aquaplaning score of 10 out of 10 placed it among the best, and its economy score of 23 was the highest in the test — driven by the best noise result (7 out of 10) and strong rolling resistance (16 out of 20). At €70 it is one of the cheapest options, but the poor braking performance is a significant safety concern that is hard to overlook.

Does this tire even exist ? An internet search refrences a global launch and there is a video on YT. My local Nexen supplier (the Nexen brand seeming[y his biggest seller) states he has never heard of the SU2.& the next performance orientated nexen tire for release in 2020 will simply be called "sport" I have emailed nexen europe but no reply as yet.. Could do some digging using your industry contacts ?

The tire was announced in Germany this year, but I'm not sure if / when it's due to go into production. I'll drop Nexen a message!

Review Summary

Based on 14 user reviews

For the Nexen N Fera Sport SU2, most high-scoring reviews praise strong dry and wet grip, predictable handling, acceptable comfort for some, and excellent value. However, a significant portion of mid/low-scoring reviews report fast shoulder wear, durability/quality issues, and higher noise/harshness, especially over time. Overall sentiment is mixed but leans slightly positive due to several very high-rated performance-focused reviews, while longevity and refinement remain common concerns.

I've driven the tire's about 40 000km on my family diesel wagon. The final result is four summers and they're gone. The protector is about 4mm,the outer side of the tires is melted like slick tire, and pieces of rubber come off. After a little bump one of the tires got a puncture in the side board, which surprised me a little, but for the price everything is OK.The grip is very good in wet and dry, they perform good in dynamic driving...when they new :)

BMW ix1, wife driving kids around. After 15k miles tires need changing due to severe wear at the outer and inner shoulder. Alignment and pressures are spot on but all 4 tires are gone. Plenty of tread left otherwise. Pretty noisy tires. Bad decision BMW

Given 64% while driving a Volkswagen Golf MK8 1.5 Style (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 8,000 average miles
The tires came with the car out of the factory and let me start with saying that they are OK, especially at the price point. I have driven better tires, however.

Dry grip is adequate, however, the rubber compound is extremely soft, for a summer performance tire and they squirm a bit under hard cornering. On the other hand the carcass is rather stiff on W speed rated tires and it rides badly. Comfort is pretty mediocre, both ride quality and tire noise are, well, bad.

Wet performance seems to be better than dry - I guess the soft compound is better in the wet when temperatures are lower, which again is strange for a summer performance tire.

Tire wear seems to be normal so far - about 1 mm of wear in 12 000 km, which is about what I get with most tires.

Overall the tire is decent for how cheap it is and it's certainly far better than some chinese ditch finder, but don't expect best in class performance for 1/3 of the price.

Good tire as usual Nexen and Kumho are great choices for tires, my theory is buy a new tire every 2max 3 years to be on safe properties otherwise risk not worthed in case of emergency.

Given 63% while driving a SEAT LEON 1.8TSI (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 10 easy going miles
When I bought my car was with Conti 5. I changed them with Bridgestone Potenza and the last change was with Nexen.
In first I was excited! There was no noise. The handling was very good and when I thought that I spend 280 euros (400+ was needed for premium tires) for a vfm buy.
After 20.000km with speeds never exceed 120km, economy and safe driving (no hard accelerations, brakes or cornering) because of a newborn I saw that almost I need new tires. Spinning, ABS and TCS engagement occurs too often and you can see why in the tires. And the finally verdict against them was a huge crack in the internal side of the one tire which was discovered when the warning light for tire pressure light up and I move to the tire shop to check it.
For me it's a "never again" it's a dangerous tire and this kind of failure as I can read is something almost common.

Given 56% while driving a Audi A3 Sportback (225/45 R17) on mostly motorways for 7,000 average miles
This tire was fitted on my Audi A3 8Y Sportback from factory. Handling on dry and wet was 'good', but nothing mindblowing. Wear was really bad though. What's even worse, tire got serious damage at its shoulder ribs after ~7000km which ended up being just "bad material / quality control from factory", as it was explained to me by the guy who replaced them. I would never buy them again, for safety reasons.

Compared to Michelin they are "OK".. Not sth fancy. Cornering is good , braking is medium but comfort and economy is bad. In an suv I can feel every road imperfection. Bad performance when it's cold.

Given 59% while driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI (225/40 R18) on mostly motorways for 9,000 spirited miles
Decided to buy a set to replace some Falken, pushed by dealer . They are OEM on Porsche and very cheap. Don’t know how they managed to get factory fitted on the german supercars, as they are “just ok”. At the orice point, probably a few other brands I would have considered. And wear seems to be horrible. Cheap yes, but I feel in the long run it is going to cost me more. Not recommended.

240kmh in rain no problem, 200kmh cornering in dry also not a problem.(understeer is easily controlable and predictable). Wear is a bit quicker but not a big problem since tire is not that expensive

Bought my ds5 180 auto with these on it, I was a little bit unsure of what to expect as I had no experience of the brand but they're excellent, I'd definitely buy them next time. Quiet, grippy, not sure how they'll wear but that's a secondary consideration as the quality is there at a much lower price than original fitment.
