2025 ADAC Winter Tire Test
8th/31
225/40 R18 • 2025
The Nokian Tires Snowproof P fails to achieve good ratings on all three road surfaces and therefore misses a good overall driving safety score, and despite achieving a good environmental rating, only manages a satisfactory overall evaluation. For driving safety, the tire provides only satisfactory steering feedback and precision on dry roads, requiring occasional corrections during steering input and cornering due to its elastic response feel, and the test vehicle tends to oversteer during dynamic evasive maneuvers or lane changes with only satisfactory limit behavior, though it achieves good braking distances that are slightly above average for the test field. On wet surfaces, the Nokian delivers satisfactory overall performance - while it still scores well for braking distances, it only achieves satisfactory ratings for both longitudinal and lateral aquaplaning resistance and handling, where the tire tends to understeer early and lacks precision with moderate limit performance. In winter conditions, the Snowproof P also only manages satisfactory ratings overall, achieving good scores only for ice braking while receiving satisfactory evaluations for snow braking distances, traction, and handling, where the test vehicle cannot be steered with particular precision and the limit range is again only at a moderate level with early tendencies toward under- or oversteering, though the tire still offers some reserves. Regarding environmental performance, this Finnish-manufactured tire receives good ratings with good predicted mileage and tire wear, plus good overall efficiency primarily due to low fuel consumption, though its weight is rated only as satisfactory.

Good on snow and dry roads, but when it's wet the WR SnowProof P is weaker.

Short dry braking distances, fuel-saving rolling resistance, low pass-by noise.
Moderate cornering on snow, low safety reserves for aquaplaning, understeering wet handling, longer wet braking distances.
Conditionally Recommended.

Review Summary
Based on 8 user reviews
Most drivers report the Nokian Snowproof P delivers excellent winter capability with strong snow/ice traction, confident wet grip and aquaplaning resistance, and very good dry handling and stability. Noise is the main drawback noted by a minority, with some speed-specific resonance; one low-scoring review reports deformation, but this is contradicted by multiple high-scoring experiences. Overall comfort and security at speed are praised, with quietness acceptable for many in colder temps.
Strengths
- Snow and ice traction
- Wet grip and aquaplaning resistance
- Dry handling and stability
- Overall winter confidence
- Comfort/quiet at typical winter temps

Fitted the snow proof P to my 2023 VW Polo GTI 2ltr (205ps). After six months use (central Germany) I've found them to be very capable tires, even in fresh deep snow after a heavy fall. At temperatures below 7°c they are quiet & comfortable to drive. They provide plenty of grip in dry conditions. In the wet they are very capable but suffer a little understeer in tight corners at speed. On the Autobahn at speed they're very quiet & feel secure in standing water. No worries with aquaplaning.

After wra3 and wra4 (both excellent on dry and wet, excellent on snow and ice, the wra3 better at very low, almost freezing temperatures, the wra4 better on snow), I tried the snowproof P. I haven't yet tried the new directional design on snow , but on dry surfaces they essentially follow the excellent handling performance of the two previous models with asymmetrical design. With the rudder, in the absence of longitudinal channels, the footprint on the ground seems to be wider, and the cornering grip perhaps slightly greater. The sidewall is stiffer than previous models, and this gives better handling, a lower steering angle and lateral lie, further improving driving dynamics. Anyone who says that Nokians don't handle the road well on wet, dry and snow either doesn't know how to drive in different road conditions, or their car has problems. I've read about deformations on this model, well it depends on whether during season changes you keep the tires resting in the right place, in the right way, and this applies to every brand and model.

Worst tires I've ever used! They deformed after 10.000km (2 seasons) of use and now they will go straight to the garbage - the car shakes. Shame on you, Nokian!

I love Nokian Tires in the Winter. The new Snow proof P is a very good and sporty tire. Snow and overall grip is outstanding. Will by it again.

The main reason to buy Nokian is definitively the Cost-Quality ratio, almost unbeatable. That being said, I found the tire very noise, and with a resonance issue between 126 and 129 km/h where they they start to rumble and they become very noisy. But at least the steering wheels does not vibrate. This is a design issue.
On the snow and Ice, are not the best for sure, but they are safe enough and I never got stuck (I live in the Swiss Alps).

Despite the test results regarding low aquaplaning resistance I had no issues with it. Water drainage is really effective. Snow performance is magnificent. 35 cm thick snow with ice underneath without a single issue. I was using c. climate + SUV before and the difference is really big in winter performance. I drove through deep and shallow water patches both straight and curves. Really assuring tires.

Using on Honda Civic Sport+, dry handling is great. On slippery conditions such as melty snow tires are awesome. Despite the wide dimensions, in heavy snow braking and handling is better than expected. At 150 km/h a strange noise comes from tires but after 160 it stops.

Very pleased with these tires on my Tesla Model 3 Performance. Rock solid on snow and ice and in cold, wet conditions. A little more noisy than my Summer Michelin Pilot Sports (only at slower speeds) but to be expected.
