Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tire tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The FALKEN Eurowinter HS02 Pro is presented as a "snow talent" that also manages to provide good performance on dry roads, all for an affordable price. However, its capabilities are severely compromised on wet surfaces, where it showed generally weaker performance. Testers described its straight aquaplaning resistance as "bereits kritisch" (already critical) and noted its weakness in both wet handling and curved aquaplaning tests.

The Falken Eurowinter HS02 Pro demonstrates respectable driving performance on dry pavement, maintaining decent handling characteristics and acceptable behavior in clear conditions. However, this Japanese-branded tire (developed by Sumitomo) reveals significant weaknesses where they matter most for winter safety. It shows weaker overall performance on snow with compromised grip and handling, while extended braking distances in both wet and dry conditions raise serious safety concerns. The tire also suffers from particularly rapid wear, resulting in the lowest projected mileage in the entire test—nearly 20,000 kilometers less than the longest-lasting competitors. This accelerated wear makes it extremely expensive over its shortened lifetime despite a mid-range purchase price around €510. The combination of safety compromises and poor durability makes the Falken impossible to recommend, as drivers would face both increased risk and the inconvenience and cost of premature replacement.

Top 3 Falken EUROWINTER HS02 Pro Reviews

Given 94% while driving a Toyota CHR Hybrid (225/50 R18) on mostly town for 3,000 average miles
After my first winter of driving on them I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It snowed quite a bit here compared to other years and despite the model not reviewing that well in snow conditions, it performed admirably, even in deeper snow. What really impressed me however was its dry and wet performance, it genuinely felt like a summer tire no matter how cold it got.

Given 98% while driving a Toyota RAV4 (225/60 R18) on a combination of roads for 7,000 spirited miles
Really solid tires, I didn't expect them to be good through snow however they performed very well. But they're even better on dry and wet roads.

Given 83% while driving a Volkswagen Tiguan (235/55 R17) on mostly motorways for 2,000 average miles
I am not a high performance driver. I am driving with 110-120 km/h maximum speeds in motorways with curves. Regularly under mild weather conditions during winter (-3 to +15 Celsius) sometimes rainy but never iced or snowy roads. I would recommend these tires because of low price and extremely silent for a winter tire. Cons are relatively high fuel consumption & possibility of bad wear. No idea about

Given 90% while driving a Citroën DS3 THP 150 (225/45 R18) on a combination of roads for 6,000 average miles
Really happy with these tires. Bought them a couple of months after release. Hands down better grip than my summer tires (Fulda) on wet. Foot 80-90% to the ground, FWD, not even a single squeak or spin. Drove in very harsh rain, absolutely no issue, glides over water (not literally). Handles aquaplaning well. Honestly, noise wise is a bit higher than summer tires, but it is what you expect. Comfort - it did not strike me as being bad, nor good, cannot comment really - maybe average. Overall - Highly Recommend, phenomenal bang for your buck.
