235/40 18 Tire Review Highlights

Continental MaxContact MC7 rated 90% while driving a Renault Renault Megane 3 Coupe GT220
Driving on mostly country roads for 500 spirited miles
Very please with this tire.
Running on Renault Sport Megane GT220 with refreshed suspension (shocks and bushings and a few other worn item replaced with new OEM parts)
Car has no limited slip differential like other Renault Sport so front grip is especially important for this vehicle
I use the car for spirited mountain driving.
Use to Run Maxxis HP5 since two near new tires came on the rear when purchased and I got matching ones for the front.
The HP5's are a great wet and dry tire for regular driving but struggled when pushed on demand twisty mountain roads both on corner exit traction and side wall rigidly, rolling over with excess wear.

Replaced the rim and tire running some Dunlop Direzza Ziii's which drastically improved grip and handling yet where also noisy in curtain conditions and required heat and pressure monitoring to get the best of them.
Due to being winter ATM I decided to save the Ziii's for summer and track driving and replace the HP5'S with Max Contact 7. I got the XL (extra load version) with the re-enforced sidewall. For me they perfectly bride the gap between a comfortable high grip road tire and a semi slick. No warm up required they start grippy straight away as soon as you arrive at your favourite twisty road, braking is excellent, I didn't once have the ABS pulsate even in very heavy breaking or at least feel like it cut in at all.
Traction is dramatically improved as well as cornering ability and lateral gfoce I can feel working my core to keep me in the seat bolster.
Initial turn in is fantastic and is very stable, however unlike a semi slick like the Ziii it does need a very small moment to deal with fast direction change loads like suddenly going into a sharp right directly after a hard left without straighten up in between.
That's where the a quality semi slick will be noticeably different.

Noise level is definitely very good obviously alot better than my Ziii although being the XL version the re-enforced side wall means it's rides more on the sporty side rather than plush ride but certainly still very acceptable for the type of tire.

For the price point in Australia I don't think there's any UHP tire that is comparable. I've driven on Michelin PS4's and Bridgestone Potenza sports both fantastic but also 2-3 times the price for what I think are both comparable tires.

Price point wise in Australia the Maxxis HP5 and Bridgetone RE003 are Kuhmo Ecsta PS71 (I've driven on all 3) are all in the same ball park.

The HP5 is grippy wet and dry tire for street use but above 7/10ths on a twisty road and it falls apart.

The RE003 is a nice weekend dry tire in warm weather but is a bit old now. It only has an A not AA wet traction rating and just doesn't have the dynamic range of a modern UHP tires to cope with all conditions.
The PS71 (yes I know the PS72 is now out but it's in a higher price point) has a nice blend of performance and dynamics in wet and dry however it's ultimate grip and ability sits below current top shelf UHP tires including the MC7.

Can't comment on wear cause I haven't had it long but I didn't get excess shoulder wear like I did on the HP5 after an aggressive mountain drive.
The tread wear rating is apparently 360 too.
Which is surprising given the grip.
The RE003 has a 220 rating, the HP5 has a 340 rating and my Ziii has a 200tw.
Grip wise they feel in between the RE003 and the Ziii. However being a new tire with new compound technology is it possible for both high grip and long life? Only time will tell.

Habilead SportMax S2000 rated 80% while driving a Volvo V60 D5
Driving on mostly motorways for 200 average miles
Only had these tires for a couple hundred miles so far, dry conditions. Replaced Pirelli tires as I was on a budget after some recent heavy expenses.

Initial are thoughts are good, I was concerned about buying budget as this is the first time I have done so.

Tire noise seems far less than the usual Pirelli I've had on this car (Volvo V60) and the handling has been no issues with it being mainly motorway and countryside driving.

Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3R rated 89% while driving a Subaru 04 WRX
Driving on mostly country roads for 500 spirited miles
Compared to the Toyo RRR this tire needs a brief warm up to really perform.
Dry grip is exceptional even when pushed to the point that the tire is smoking and never feels greasy .
communication is great letting you know when you are at your limit or just past it with no sudden breaking away.
Wet grip is acceptable for what it is but falls off as tire becomes worn.
Tire comfort great without the loud hum of the Toyo 888.
I use 888 for my rear wheel drive Corvette as nothing hooks like these cold short of slicks.
The Supercar 3R I use on my Subaru wrx sti which often see driving at the limit in the mountains.
Grateful to Tire Reviews channel for discovering this tire

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 93% while driving a Subaru 2006 impreza wrx STI
Driving on mostly country roads for 5000 average miles
I did a lot of research (thanks, Jonathan, for the great videos!) to decide which tire would be the best fit. The car is a modified Subaru Impreza WRX STI running on coilovers. The tires being replaced were Yokohama Advan Neova AD08Rs — stable and grippy, but with very stiff sidewalls that made the ride feel fidgety until they warmed up (virtually impossible in the winter), from a comfort perspective, they just weren’t ideal.

Yes, the car is meant to feel firm and sporty, but given the current state of the roads, I wanted something that still offered good grip and driving enjoyment, but with a significant improvement in comfort. Previously, the suspension couldn’t do its job properly because the tires were transmitting every bump and imperfection straight into it, compromising the ride quality and ultimately grip and handling.

These new Goodyears have hit the mark perfectly — they’ve completely transformed how the car rides and drives. While they may not feel quite as sharp as the Advans at higher speeds, I’m now getting traction and compliance without sacrificing the fun of driving.

I've even recommended them to friends with other cars, like the Octavia vRS, and the feedback has been great — good wear, improved comfort, and happy drivers.

Thanks to Tire Reviews, and thanks to Goodyear!

Kumho Ecsta Sport S PS72 rated 85% while driving a Ford Focus ST250
Driving on mostly motorways for 1000 spirited miles
Changed them for the SportContacts 6, the grip is almost the same at the 50% price, a little bit more noisy, better road feel. would recomend. Can’t rate the wear yet.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 84% while driving a BMW 320d touring
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
I've been using those tires on my BMW 320d Touring for a year now. Road noise is slightly louder than with the old tires, however those haven't been UHP tires. Overall I am very satisfied. They have a lot of grip both in dry and wet conditions. Autobahn rides with 200km/h+ feel safe and stable. Hunting corners on country roads is a lot of fun too. I don't drive on race tracks though and I am lacking the expertise to evaluate the performance at the absolute limit.
I think the Pilot Sport 5 are excellent for spirited everyday driving.

Continental PremiumContact 7 rated 84% while driving a Volkswagen Scirocco 2.0 TSI 210hp
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 spirited miles
1000+ Miles. Previous tires from the previous owners were Maxxis-somethings with I'd say about 30% of their lifetime left.
Dry grip, warm and cold, has been excellent. In colder weather and at colder temperatures I have been able to get the rear to step out briefly (on a FWD!) before ESC kicks in, at a sharp angle; vs severe understeer on the maxxis, but I attribute that to the wear.
Otherwise, in a straight line, across motorway driving, Peak District roads, and city driving, brilliant grip so far.

Not had a great amount of driving in the wet to rate, but from what I have done, seems as good as any other tire I've tried.
Road Feedback: Not an expert but I'd say you get a lot of feedback out of them.
Handling feels very good, very grippy, able to be pushed a bit.
Wear, initial 1000 miles so not really comparable, but I've had a few times I've said "hmm, have I got tread left?" while looking from afar - but that's just visual I think.
Comfort.... More "clunky" when over potholes or bad road surface, but otherwise very smooth on motorways. Not jarring but certainly not luxurious.

Buy Again: With the same car or anything with more power, I would buy either these or Michelin PS4/5/. I would probably go with an EcoContact or some similar "touring" tire for a more efficient car that I didn't intend to push.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 87% while driving a Mercedes Benz A250 AMG Sport
Driving on mostly town for 10 spirited miles
I Purchased a set of 4 for my Mercedes A250 AMG, used for 2 years approx and I can proudly say this tire gets into the Top 5 easily alongside brands like Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli and Continental.
I would highly recommend whether you are driving a normal car or a sport car.
Really worth the money compared to the other brands!

Toyo Observe G3 Ice rated 78% while driving a Volkswagen CC
Driving on a combination of roads for 1800 average miles
These are definitely quieter than the average studded tires I've tried. They handle well in both the dry and the wet, but they shine in the snow and do pretty good on ice. The price here is higher than average so the decision if I'd buy them again really depends on how fast they wear and how they hold up as they wear.

Accelera 651 Sport XTRA rated 90% while driving a Toyota Yaris
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
I fitted these on both my GR Yaris and A110 Alpine both road and track. These are by far the best choice economically. On the track they are predictable , grippy and user friendly much like AR1 Quick to come on, great turn in and no snap oversteer. The big surprise is the very creditable wet grip, so good that I have no temptation to change rubber for the winter. The super economy is that one set of wheels is enough. No more lying on the cold ground changing wheels.

Continental PremiumContact 7 rated 90% while driving a Volkswagen Scirocco 1,4 TSI 160hp
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
I bought those a year ago, when they just came out. I have to say, i am impressed. Quality of the Continental tires really shines. They were very good in any (summer) weather condition, no problem at all with soaked roads and heavy rains. Comfortable enough, good gas millage, very good grip on both wet and dry. Would buy those anytime again. PS. I wont do that cuz im a tire geek and would probably get the newer models lol. AMAZING TIRE.
