195/55 16 Tire Review Highlights

Goodride SV308 rated 36% while driving a SEAT ALhambra TDi
Driving on a combination of roads for 9000 easy going miles
Only 2 things stood out - wet grip was relatively poor and wear was by far the worst I have ever experienced.

I had this particular car for 18 years and tried many budget tires - so under exactly the same conditions.

All other budgets lasted around 22K to 25K miles but these tires failed an MOT at well under 10K!!! This appears to be because they start with an very uneven tire pattern with about 5mm in the central part - yes you read that correctly. They obviously then did not last as they only had a total of 3mm useable tread!!! You are basically buying 50% worn tires when they are new!!!

Companies like this should be ashamed of themselves for ripping people off.

Nokian Seasonproof 2 rated 63% while driving a Renault Clio IV TCe 90
Driving on a combination of roads for 350 average miles
Renault Clio IV Estate 900cc turbo 90pk : I have got these tires not very long yet, so I may add another updated review later on. But the reason why I wanted to write a review is because of an experience I have with these tires from day 1. So we bought our car some months ago and it came with a pair of Typhoon all season 6 on the front, and Goodyear eco summers on the rear. No problems whatsoever with handling. The Goodyears however were 7 years old and started to show missing rubber parts and cracks. And thus we replaced with Nokian Seasonproof 2 after seeing this video. The Typhoons remained at the front. The first experience when I drove off from the tire central was ok. All very silent in the car. So I started moving my steer a little from left to right, and immediately I had the impression as if there was soap on the tires. It swayed like a boat on water. There was no "resistance" or "firm putting back the tires in its place". I didn know what to call it at the time. When I drove up the highway home, I never been so scared. The moment I hit 110km/u or over, the car acted VERY nervous. Like as if the rear was going to flip over, or like it wanted to catch up with the front. 1mm of steering left to right resulted in a huge swaying that made me sweat. The rear showed again no "firmness". Long story short. The nervosity while not touching the wheel is after 10 days slightly less, a sidewind is slightly digested better, BUT the car is still very sensitive to steering, and it still doesn't want to settle firmly after a left/right motion or sidewind. Driving with one hand only is out of the question. I read it's called squirming, something to do with what the tires are made of, the pattern, new rubber, etc. I don't know. Two other tire shops where I asked second opinions looked odd at me when I asked them about it. Like they never heard of such thing as a break-in time. Literally even mentioned on Nokian and other manufacturers websites. The thing is, I dont know how long this is going to last. I dont know if it's maybe also the combination of tires; though the combination before seemed more odd to me than this combo, since it's now all wheels four season tires. Driven now 500km and 10 days with these tires. Changed the pressure a little down and up, currently at 2,3 bar on all wheels (normal is F 2.3 & R 2.1 bar). I might experiment a little with that, or switch Nokians from rear to front. However, I have no idea if it's a good idea to have squirmy tires on the front, and a more stiff tire (assuming it is) to the rear. The car has been aligned meanwhile, error free. Shock absorbers still to be checked though the car is fairly new for such (70.000 km), and it only changed right after the tire swap. I have to admit, taking long corners feels very comfortable and experiencing strong grip. So the rubber actually "grabs" the road when turning, cornering. It's just at higher speeds, as from 90km/u the rear starts to feel like it doesn't have to wheels, but 2 balls.

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 rated 56% while driving a Volkswagen polo 2018 1.0 tsi 115 hp
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 spirited miles
Bought to replace Continental Premium Contact Sport 5s on the assumption these would be much quieter. Tested on a UK VW Polo 95TSI Manual on motorways and country roads. Key attributes of the Goodyear as follows:
Handling - Relative to the Conti the Goodyear sidewall flexes more. This presents itself in a few ways. Firstly turning into a corner at high speed there is a moment where the sidewall flexes and you don't know if there is sufficient grip, there is a sense of vagueness to it. This also shows up on the motorway at high speed as the car has a greater tendency to wander, and feel more vague on the straight ahead. It saps rather than instils confidence. It isn't dramatically bad or dangerous, but if you like to know exactly where the levels of grip are, this isn't the tire for you. In crosswinds these traits are exacerbated.
Comfort - It is marginally quieter than the Contis when rolling from 30-70mph, but not by a great deal. What is better is that when the Goodyear hits a bump, there is less of a 'crash' in the cabin (something the Polo is known for in basic spec): this is probably due to the softer sidewall. So comfort overall is slightly better than the Conti PC 5s.
Wet Grip - the tire hangs on gamely, at least as good as the Contis, in the wet, but because of the amount of flex in the tire to begin with, you are never quite sure where you stand. On the same roads in the same conditions the Goodyear will take you down a wet road as quickly, but on a road you don't know, you will back off because you can't trust it the same. It's not bad, it's just not as good as the Conti's.
I wouldn't recommend these tires and would consider NEXEN NFeras or Conti Premium Contact 6/7 over these.

Nokian Seasonproof 2 rated 88% while driving a Citroën c3 Picasso 1.6 diesel
Driving on mostly country roads for 100 easy going miles
As the tires on my mothers C3 Picasso MPV needed to be replaced (Michelin eco at the back and Goodyear summers at the front, Goodyears were far from bald but cracked), I went for 4 seasons tires to save myself the bother of changing them for winter.

This is only an initial review, as the car hasn't been driven so far yet, but the difference with the old summer tires is obvious. The grip is there, especially when braking (brake fluid was replaced a week before the change of tires). changes of direction are pretty progressive and comfy, while feeling much more safe that on the old Goodyears.

Price was also decent at about 100€/tire (20€ less than the Michelins from all sellers).

Michelin Primacy 4 Plus rated 97% while driving a SEAT Ibiza
Driving on a combination of roads for 7000 spirited miles
Very good tires, no issues regarding grip level in wet or dry weather. The handling is great and so is road noise, noticeably quieter than the Nexen on the rear of the car. So far tread level looks nearly identical to new having done around 7000 miles. All in all they are great tires as you’d expect from Michelin.

GT Radial ClimateActive rated 91% while driving a Vauxhall Corsa
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
Only had them on about a month at this point, but have covered 1000 miles with no wear showing at all, handling is good, if a little vague, not as much road feedback through the wheels as its predecessor. In heavy rain and mud these tires perform really well, as I’ve come to expect from GTRadial tires, the dry handling is similar in my experience to the Michelin Crossclimate 2, although I do find the Climateactive to be a more comfortable tire in comparison over bumps and road imperfections.

The tire is slightly noisy when cornering, but not enough to be an issue, just more noticeable then its predecessor and the cross climate 2s.

Given its performance on mud and gravel I have every confidence that these tires will perform well in the snow, time will tell, but so far so very good, as I’ve come to expect from GTRadial, and in fact the Giti family of brands.

MRF ZVTV rated 87% while driving a Audi 3.2 v6 Quattro
Driving on mostly town for 55 average miles
This is my first car (Tata altroz XZ 195/55 R16) and first four wheeler tire experience. As per me MRF zvtv tires are all to do tires in budget. I never afraid of driving on bad roads, patholes, wet roads. Durability in kms is awesome. Only thing is that my run is 55k now and there are fine cracks on shoulders. But I think it is not that harmfull.

Maxxis Premitra HP5 rated 90% while driving a MG Mg 3
Driving on a combination of roads for 16000 spirited miles
Very good dry and wet grip in terms of acceleration braking and handling.also when using in minus 5 degrees dry or slightly damp roads yes when ice is possible. Going more easy was still grippy so then pushed on some more even on roundabouts and still gripped very well and felt safe. Which I was impressed with as these are summer tires not winter or all season tires .so wasn't expecting tires I was already impressed with to be safe at these conditions also .final verdict very good capable tires.

Continental AllSeasonContact 2 rated 62% while driving a Volkswagen Polo 1.0TSI
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 average miles
I have driven around 3000km in the plains of northern Italy with a Polo Aw1 Tsi 95cv, with average temperatures of around 20-22°C.
What I immediately noticed on dry roads is a fairly wide steering dead spot and significant understeer, even at low and moderate speeds. What left me most perplexed is the inconsistency of the steering when cornering (even when compared to the Bridgestone Blizzak I just removed): I don't have a good perception of the contact between the tire and the asphalt, the steering is not very precise, and I can perceive a sensation of floating.
The steering directionality on straight roads is also decidedly less consistent than summer tires (Bridgestone Turanza 001), and even compared to winter tires.
The positive aspect compared to the previous summer tires is the softness in following the bumps in the asphalt that allows for good control.

Overall I think that these All Season Contact 2 are not very suitable for the summer climate of the flat Italian areas, where temperatures easily exceed 35°C, and where temperatures are steadily above 15°C for 8/10 months a year.
In these situations I think that a certain amount of attention is needed when driving with these tires.

I wouldn't buy them again, because already at 20°C I find them unsafe when cornering and braking. I think I'll test them a bit more now to see how they behave as temperatures rise, but I'll probably replace them with summer ones before the high temperatures arrive.

Driving on mostly country roads for 0 spirited miles
bought these tires because they had an excelent price and this size is very expensive compared to other sizes and the tire shop i go to recommended them as very sporty tire but i was dessapointed by the feedback and the handling characteristics although the grip is very very good the way it handles is very spongy and really doesnt like to be pushed on the corners the sidewall folds way to much i have two different tires fitted on the same car previous to these the one the car came from the dealership a yokohama bluearth not sure wich one exactly it was very good tire and then switched to vredestein sportrac 5 fitted them twice in my opinion the best tire i have drove on not the grippiest but the handling and roadfeedback where top notch so in conclusion if you want the rainsport 5 because of its price and you want just a very good and safe tire to drive around sure if you are looking for something like me avoid it and maybe go for something like the falken 320 that i heard so many good words for the only reason i did not go for this myself it was the price

Had them on my company car for 2 warm seasons. They wore a lot on the outside belt. The car understeered noticeably.

I had the tires fitted to my company car for 3 winters. They were mediocre and wore the exterior belts quite quick.
