I don't know how to take in consideration all the ratings here (official tests & customers reviews) because most of the usage here is for sports cars and bigger tires that are not my case.
I'm looking for a good tire for calm driving that would do well if i ever accidentally take a turn too fast on dry or wet road and has good fuel efficiency.

Of the two tires mentioned, we would likely pick the Falken, only because it is a slightly newer pattern. Our experience with each tire is low though, so we're also only going by what reviews and tests are telling us.
Would these be suitable for a Mazda mx5 1.8 mark 3 and are the tire walls soft. Many thanks.

The CF2s have reasonable sidewalls, though depending on how sporty you want your drive there might be better choices. Check out our MX5 tire review page for other suggestions.

unfortunately the pattern on the Toyo Proxes CF2 pick up and follow grooves in the road which is especially dangerous on a motorways when they've been cutting in new sections of road with old. the tire wear was also quite poor with feathering on the outer edges too. the initial 10k was on the rear (Fiestas don't wear the rears) and about 11k on the front. had the tracking checked but no issues.
I've now got Kumho Ecsta HS52 195/55/15 on all 4 corners which is a better tire in every aspect - they are supposed to be a little noisier but we can't tell any difference, fuel economy and wet grip is about the same but dry grip is somewhat better and there's no nasties either.

    put a pair on the front roughtly 18 months/12000 miles ago and about to have the rears changed to the same. compared to the other tires we've had on our Fiesta (Pirelli, Kumho, Arrowspeed) these Toyo CF2s are by far the best. they are lighter on the steering and very positive when pushed through corners, comfortable and less noisy plus the wear rate looks good too. the only negative I found is that they need quite a long time to scrub-in and come up to full grip, roughly 1500-2000 miles.

Initial Impressions

This was my second set Toyos and the reason I went with them was the fact that I was really pleased with them the first time. That being said, these CF2s left me quite disappointed.

For context, I don’t put that many kms on my tires so I would expect their lifespan to generally be good. With these though, after almost 4 years and less than 15000 kms, they needed replacement. Wear was absolutely horrendous, as was their resistance to time.

For a fully garaged car, that sees no direct sunlight nor gets driven in extremely hot or cold climates I noticed that the tires became extremely stiff after 2.5 to 3 years. Initial handling on both wet and dry was quite nice as well as feedback and overall handling (for a comfort tire that is) but this was compounded as mentioned by their utter lack of longevity.

For their price range I would not recommend them.

The car is a toyota Auris. We have a CF2 tire on rear wheel and have noticed it has cracking on the side wall of the tire where the wall meets the tread. There is lots of tread left on the tire 5mm. Tire is about a year old. All other tires on car (which are not CF2s) are ok.

Comparing to Michelin Energy Saver, these ones are not worse. The rubber quality is actually higher and wet handling potentially better. One thing for sure - they are quieter and I love that. Nice riding feel, planted, grippy enough and above all I feel they are safe. I have even provoked them in the snow (mixed with rain but even then) and had a really hard time losing control with them in the rear (hand brake and all).
Price has raised since I bought them back in 2021 (paid 65€ for each assembled), but they still are great tires.

The tires were already mounted on my 2002 Camaro. Only 4 years old they already start to show small cracks on the whole tire.

99% I agree with the car magazine test regarding performance. Quiet, low rolling resistance. Wet performance disappointing.

Not a bad tire but those cracks came quite early.

Will change them to all season tires.

The dry and wet grip are very good. The wear rate is very acceptable. They lasted for 5 years, 28 thousand miles. The shoulder wears faster and when this happens they loose performance noticiably. I have used HANKOOK SOLUS, YOKOHAMA SPORT ADVAN SPORT AS, this toyo have out performed this tires.

Mine is CF2 SUV edition. For a 1.5 liter 1.2 ton light car, this comfort + touring oriented tire helps in improving the comfort on the 'harsh' nature of the compact Honda Vezel / HRV (CUV).
Quiet and stable at high speed. Previous tire was Michelin Primacy 4. Toyo slightly more comfort in same profile size.

I have used dunlop, maxxis and continental tires on my Toyota Camry 2010 LE model. Now for 7000miles over past 5 months. Has a great grip on off-roads terrain and dry conditions. Handling in wet conditions not as great as maxxis and can be uncomfortable but does well at corners. A bit noisy on rough roads but premium quietness on smooth tarred roads. Has the best wear rate in all tires I've used in the past. Could pass for new tires even after 7000miles. Tire resistance feels excessive when speeding on highway making it not suitable for fast cars. Braking is superb

I have mounted a complete set of 4 new tires on a Citroen AX GTI 185/60/13 and on my Peugeot 106 1.4 XSI 175/60/14. They are good tires with a lot of grip and very quiet, no rolling noises. I use them for daily commuting and with a sporty driving style. The road feedback is good, you feel exactly what is happening and where the limit is when you turn hard into a bend. The only thing what is negativy about them is during a heavy rain shower, aquaplaning is coming up with the 175/60/14 on the Peugeot 106. The tires clearly have difficulty with this, but it is not dangerous. Every band has its pros and cons. But I can say with confidence that the price/quality ratio is at a high level. Would definitely buy them again.
