Michelin Primacy 5 Energy
The Michelin Primacy 5 Energy is a summer touring tire with consistently positive early feedback for noise, comfort and efficiency. A wear comparison also found low rubber loss, but long-term owner experience and independent grip testing remain limited.

Michelin Primacy 5 Energy Owner Reviews
Review this tireWhat owners say summarised from 11 reviews
The Michelin Primacy 5 Energy receives particularly consistent praise for low noise, mentioned positively by nine of ten owners. Seven also praise ride comfort, while three report improved efficiency and three like its dry handling. Ten of the 11 written reviews are positive overall, but nine were written at the initial stage, so this is mainly a picture of the tire when new. There is not yet enough experience to judge long-term wear confidently. Complaints about comfort, steering feel and price are isolated rather than established patterns.

## Michelin Primacy 5 Energy — update after one season
I bought the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy tires on 20 May 2026 and fitted them a few days later. After one summer season and approximately 10,000 km, I can give a more balanced opinion than in my initial review, written just a week after fitting them.
My VW ID.3 Pro (204 HP, 310 Nm, rear-wheel drive) is fitted with 215/55 R18 99V XL tires with rim protection.
Handling and stability remain the biggest advantages. Compared with the factory weird Continental EcoContact 6 (95T), the Michelins make the car feel much more planted and predictable. The stiffer sidewalls are a major improvement over the original tires, which made the car feel rather soft and boat-like.
I also tested them in the mountains on wet asphalt, in cold and rainy conditions, including tight hairpin bends. I deliberately tried to break traction, and although it was possible, I had to push the car quite hard. When traction was finally lost, it was only briefly. This gave me a positive impression of their wet grip and predictability, although it wasn't a controlled test.
Energy consumption is another significant advantage. Compared with the original Continental EcoContact 6, I've observed a reduction of around 1–2 kWh/100 km — a meaningful difference for an EV.
Noise is where I have to revise my initial opinion. Despite their official external noise rating of 69 dB, I expected them to be quieter inside the cabin. They aren't excessively noisy, but road noise is more noticeable than I had hoped.
My expectations probably come from previous experience. The quietest summer tires I've ever owned were Dunlop Sport BluResponse, which I used around 2015. They were exceptionally quiet and comfortable, although I remember them wearing relatively quickly. Of course, comparing tires across different cars and wheel sizes isn't entirely fair.
The noise level isn't a deal-breaker. Considering the improvement in handling, stability and energy consumption, I'm still happy with my choice.
And one small detail still makes me smile: the clear Michelin branding and the little Michelin Man raising his hand as if greeting me whenever I walk up to the car. A small thing, perhaps, but it genuinely improves my mood.
Overall: After one season and approximately 10,000 km+, I still consider the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy 99V XL a significant upgrade over the factory Continental EcoContact 6. Excellent stability, reassuring wet grip and lower energy consumption make them a very good choice for my needs. I just expected them to be quieter inside the cabin.

Initial Impressions100% 100 milesReplaced on my VW ID.3 Pro (204HP) the factory Continental EcoContact 6 (215/55 R18 95T), which were honestly disappointing and danger to drive due to way to soft sides. Quite strange they weren’t XL, considering how heavy this EV is...
This is why I switched to Michelin Primacy 5 Energy 99V XL with rim protection – and the difference is huge.
Grip and stability improved a lot. The car now feels extremely confident, almost like a sporty setup (even though these aren’t Pilot Sports). Cornering is perfect. I also can comfortably carry 20 km/h more through bends and the tires just hold.
Comfort is very good, and they stay quiet on the highway. I would explain that in EVs, most of the noise comes from airflow and wind anyway, then tires – so expectations need to be adjusted a bit. For anyone new to EV driving, it feels like a mix of:
a car (because of the tires),
a plane (wind noise outside cabin),
a train (smooth, heavy, linear acceleration).
Also worth mentioning: they look really good. Clear “Michelin” branding, and the little Michelin Man with a raised hand almost feels like he’s greeting you every time you walk up to the car – small detail, but it genuinely improves my mood :)
Overall: big upgrade over OEM tires – excellent handling, stability, and still great comfort.

The Michelin Primacy 5 Energy are very silent, they grip well both in dry and wet conditions and they last quite a long time. Overall I'm quite impressed by the quality provided by those tires.

I was previously using the Falken Azenis FK520L, but found it quite harsh and noisy, even with soundproofing done on the car. As the tires wore down, wet handling also became less confidence-inspiring, and I could occasionally feel the tires losing traction in wet conditions.
After switching to the Primacy 5 Energy, the ride feels much smoother, quieter, and more refined overall. What impressed me most was the immediate drop in energy consumption — my EV efficiency improved by around 5 kWh/100 km compared to my Falkens.
For daily driving, especially in an EV where comfort, quietness, wet grip, and efficiency matter, the Primacy 5 Energy feels like a huge upgrade. Very happy with the purchase so far.

I've been using Goodyears mostly, now Michelin Primacy 5 Energy blew my mind, seriously.
The tire is so comfortable, quiet and predictable that it feels like your car has just been upgraded to the next tier.
After putting these on instead of my winters (Goodyear Performance 3), I felt I won't drive home just now, I want to drive a bit more - that's the feeling! And I enjoyed it so much.
Now, I wouldn't say it's a downside for me, definitely not, I sometimes drive fast, but most of the time just cruising, the feel is not sporty, it's rather like a quality casual running shoe (comfy and can be used anywhere you want (except the ice/snow, haha)), it delivers in any aspect, but it's not a sport tire obviously.
With that said, I can recommend it to anyone, who's driving style is ~30% sporty and ~70% normal/touring.
If you want to race - race, you can do it, no worries, but the tire will convince you to drive nicely because it's just made for that.
