DEKRA has run a tread wear test of the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy against seven other touring and EV tires in size 215/55 R18 on a Volkswagen ID.3. The test, which DEKRA states was commissioned by Michelin, set the Primacy 5 Energy against the standard Primacy 5, Continental UltraContact NXT and PremiumContact 7, Hankook iON GT SUV, Bridgestone Turanza 6 Enliten, Pirelli Cinturato C3 and Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2.
The Primacy 5 Energy lost the least rubber of the eight, with the standard Primacy 5 close behind. Every rival lost noticeably more, and the Cinturato C3 and Turanza 6 lost the most. DEKRA does not rank the tires, so the finishing order shown here is our own, as explained below.
The data comes from three extracts of DEKRA report CPA MARK25E (Nov 2025), each comparing the Primacy 5 Energy with a different group of tires. The cars were driven in convoys on a road route near Narbonne in France between May and October 2025, and DEKRA weighed all four tires before and after. The Primacy 5 Energy figure is the same in all three extracts. The extract covering the PremiumContact 7, Turanza 6, Cinturato C3 and EfficientGrip Performance 2 cites a second, shorter run (convoy 3) as well as the main one, without saying which tire ran which distance, so treat those four gram figures with a little care. DEKRA does not rank the tires, so the finishing order on this page is our own: projected mileage counts for 75% and rubber lost for 25%, as in our standard summer weighting. Those weights are our choice, not DEKRA's. We count tires within 0.4 points of each other as tied, so the two Michelins share first place, as do the EfficientGrip Performance 2 and Cinturato C3 in seventh. For the full method, see the original DEKRA report.
Value
The chart shows the total mass each set lost during the test. The Primacy 5 Energy and Primacy 5 were well clear of the field, followed by the Hankook and the UltraContact NXT, with the Cinturato C3 losing the most.

|---|---|---|
| 1194 g | Best | |
| 1243 g | +49.00 g | |
| 1675 g | +481.00 g | |
| 1697 g | +503.00 g | |
| 1812 g | +618.00 g | |
| 1885 g | +691.00 g | |
| 2018 g | +824.00 g | |
| 2059 g | +865.00 g |
The difference between best and worst was 72.4% (865 g).
DEKRA also extrapolates each tire's life to the wear limit (1.6 mm in the main grooves, 0.93 mm at the shoulder), using Michelin's evaluation method and the rear tires only. That projection does not follow the mass loss exactly. The standard Primacy 5 lost slightly more rubber than the Energy but was projected to last 382 miles longer, and the EfficientGrip Performance 2 lost less rubber than the Turanza 6 or Cinturato C3 but had the shortest projected life. DEKRA projected the UltraContact NXT about 4,064 miles short of the Primacy 5 Energy, the iON GT SUV 4,800 miles short, the PremiumContact 7 6,685 miles, the Turanza 6 6,928 miles, the Cinturato C3 9,421 miles and the EfficientGrip Performance 2 9,760 miles.

| 14,416 miles | -10,190 miles |
The difference between best and worst was 41.4% (10,190 miles).
Projected mileage calculated by Tire Reviews, not printed by DEKRA. DEKRA gives each rival's projected life only as a percentage of the reference tire's and a gap in kilometers, so we worked the reference tire's figure out from those percentages (about 38,950 km, accurate to within about 200 km) and took each gap from it. Rounded to the nearest 100 km.
Results
On both mass lost and projected life, the two Michelins were the longest-wearing tires here, and the Energy version lost slightly less rubber than the standard Primacy 5 while being projected a few hundred kilometers shorter. On our weighting the two Michelins share first place. This is a single Michelin-commissioned test, and it covers wear only, not grip.
