Are Budget Tires Finally Good Enough? 8 Cheap Tires VS 1 Premium Tire
5th/9
205/55 R16 • 2023
The Davanti DX390 performed well in he aquaplaning tests and had slightly above average grip in the dry and wet, and it was also a comfortable tire. The handling nature of the tire was a safe understeer primary balance. It was the most expensive budget tire though and was out performed by the cheaper Tomket, Nankang and Winrun products.

Magazine note - Conditionally recommended - "it is only available in a few ways, and we know that the different production times can give significantly different characteristics, so it is far from certain that the purchased copy is so good will be like the test arrived"

Review Summary
Based on 28 user reviews
Driver feedback on the Davanti DX390 is mixed, with a meaningful group praising it as a good-value budget tire that can be quiet, comfortable, and reasonably grippy in normal dry (and sometimes wet) driving. However, a substantial number of lower-scoring reviews describe poor wet-weather traction and sudden loss of grip that hurts confidence and, for some, feels unsafe. Noise/harshness and general refinement are also recurring complaints, though not universal.
Strengths
- Good value for money / low purchase price
- Quiet and/or comfortable ride (for many drivers)
- Decent dry grip and everyday handling
- Wet grip reported as good by some higher-scoring users
Areas for Improvement
- Poor wet grip and low confidence in damp conditions (reports of sudden breakaway/skids)
- Can be noisy and/or ride harsh for some drivers
- Handling/stability can feel vague
- Floaty
- Or twitchy at speed

I've read several reviews here and I don't think they are thst bad. In my experience, DX390 has better safety reserve than Bridgestone Turanza T005. Better stability in corners (Turanzas let go much sooner than DX) and decent wet performance .
The downside is the noise. Turanza is much quieter than dx.

Dangerous. Rubbish in dry ABS kept kicking in. Slip all over in the wet - I'm taking pootling about at 30mph. The front and the back has lost it back going round roundabouts. Took them off after a couple of weeks. We have 2 Honda Streams so I know what they should drive like. The are fine with Bridgestone Turanza, Goodyear efficient grip, Landsail LS388 (yes- no bother whatsoever with these), and Michelin Cross Climate. The only other tires I have had to remove were Khumo Ecowing from the rear as the back end would lose grip on them.

A cheap tire that went way above expectation. 28.000 miles / 45.000 km in 3 years and surely unhappy that they are not available any more. The price back then was 240 euros for 4 pieces. Miles driven on highways at usual speeds around 150km/h and on soil/village roads. Due to low profile the tire pressure was usually at around 38-40 psi as recommended by the tire shop, not 34. They never slided when sudden braking occurred or given the sense of losing control/grip. Good grip both on wet and dry road. Previous tires were dunlop and Bridgestone, didn't last so long dunlops were double priced and Bridgestones 50% more expensive.

Use this on our smaller car which is used to short run around journeys. Noise isn't too bad, but grip in the dry is good, wet is okay, not the best but defiantly had worse!
The garage that fitted them is a Davanti dealer, we hit a pot hole yesterday which damaged the sidewall. Garage replaced under the warranty scheme and only cost of 25% of the tire cost due to the tread wear.

Had these tires installed last summer as suggested by the dealer, although I wanted hankooks I listened to the dealer. Driven in the city, winter came, changed to winter wheels.this summer installed the davanti wheels back. My wife told me that she feels a strange vibration in the steering wheel at about 110/120. Drove the car and had the same sensation. Went to mechanics, changed some parts. Same vibration. Went to have geometry of direction done and those mechanics suggested to their colleagues to check the tires. Tires ovalized. Called the dealer ( tires have 1000 miles- so in warranty)- solution have the tires inspected by them. Installed new 4 all season tires at different shop.that mechanic also confirmed that the davanti are not round anymore. He suggested to not resell them . Sent the davanti to the dealer and waiting for their feedback. I want my money back and never again will buy this brand of tires. Also in summer at a trafic light 60-0 km/h emergency break abs activated. Also when I break they are noisy.

I was looking for all season tires, but local tire place said it would be 2- 3 weeks to get them,, so he recommended these Diavanti DX390`s. Told me they are a summer tire really, but are overall very good, well I have driven about 300 miles on them, and they are not good at all. £75.00 each isn`t cheap either, I have noticed a lot have cars have this brand of tire, so maybe dealers are getting a good mark up to sell them, that`s the only reason I can think of to promote them.
They are rubbish, and I have had a few nasty moments with them already in light rain at around 50mph, the grip is okay at first, then suddenly just lets go.
I am going back to tire depot tomorrow to complain, because these tires are rubbish and actually I think they are dangerous.
They are supposedly designed in the UK and made in China, well there is your clue, Made in China, a copied tire pattern from a premium brand, but built like all Chinese tires, ie poor quality.

Not very good.
Need say no more really.
I was in need of a front pair of tires and got let down by another supplier so was a little stuck. I deliberated having read some dire reviews of them but it's only a wee Audi A2 however it is a fine handling little car much to the surprise of many folk. Hankook Ventus Prime K125 all round prior to this. Those are great tires with dry and wet weather grip that is very progressive, wear rate impressive too and no noise unlike these Davanti's.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, they are bad. Initial impressions on dry roads I must admit was, these aren't too bad. They seem to be getting worse with a few hundred miles on them. They're coming off right away.
Don't buy!!!

These were fitted to the front of my Mazda 3 by the dealer I bought from and replaced after 1200 miles.
Dry grip is actually pretty good but poor in the wet when pushing on, wet roundabouts could be a bit hairy.
Handling and steering response were reasonable although they did tend to understeer a little. Biggest problem was on motorways, a bit twitchy at moderate speeds and floaty at higher speeds. Not confidence inspiring.
I also found them noisy and uncomfortably harsh over bumps.
They have been replaced with Toyo Proxes CF2's and the difference is like night and day. The car is now quiet, comfortable, and handles extremely well in all conditions.
For a budget tire they are not that bad but I still wouldn't recommend them.

Bought 2 of these tires to be fitted to the rear wheels when the garage couldn't source another pair of Toyo Proxes TR1's to match what I have on the front. Bit of a gamble but so far they appear to be decent for the money I paid (approx £60 each). In the dry they grip fairly well, but it does sometimes feel as though the rear of the car is losing grip far quicker than the Toyos at the front are (and the GT Radial's they replaced), but they are definitely quieter than the tires they replaced. In the wet they are decent- around town and on the motorway I have no problems, but they can feel slightly floaty at speed on a twisty road in the wet. The wear seems to be decent, however there are large wear marks at the outside of the tread very near the sidewall compared to further in which makes me wonder how evenly they are wearing. Also it's worth noting that the rear of the car now feels heavier than before, as though I have a boot full of heavy stuff which has slightly hit my fuel economy.
Overall, if comfort and noise at your priority and you do most of your driving around town/on a motorway then they are good for the price. If like me you like to drive towards the limit and enjoy a good country road, I would pay more for something like the Proxes TR1's.

I know i know. We've all read fake reviews. So why are youn reading this. Anothyer put up(Note the spelling mistake intentiamnaol) to show you you Im real. Anyway These Davanti tires are fantastic/superb etc. I inherited a crap VW polo via the missus. The ride was awful. The barstards had not only not looked afetr the car but the tires were shot. They thought theyd given me a gift. Asholes. Anyway to cut a long story short when the full servive became due (which included drilling out the fucking sparkplugs as they were welded into the head!!!!!) i asked the vw team to fit new tires. I was offered a premium brand and the Davantis. I opted for the Davantis due to their low db rating . . 68 if I recall. The result was was a transformation of a terrible car into a comfortable motor. I don't ask much of life but these tires are well designed to give a superb driving experience. In other words they are the dogs bollocks! i suppose the edited version wont have the chrisma of the original text. I have just had Davantis fitted to my campervan so look out. Love to all Roberto

bought two for the front of my diesel focus on a 2012 plate.
at first I thought I was losing efficiency, but not the case. a new battery during august reset all my stats and now I have improved my efficiency by 1.5 mpg, 54 to 55.7. they hold the road well, corner lovely, reasonably quiet and very little rumble feedback. not sure what they are going to be like in the snow or icy roads, but if you drive to the conditions then you should be ok.
i really dont see an issue with the Davantis, I am having the rear tires done this afternoon, so will have a full set.
it may be that these are best suited to the smaller family car rather than the racing maniacs cars, having said that i have cornered at 60 mph without any slide, so feel quite safe with these.

I bought these from a friends garage, Harborne Tires and told him I would leave a review as I was really
Happy with the service and the tires. He said this was the best place to write a review as you can’t do it on his website.
Only drive an A1 and don’t drive fast so not sure exactly how to score some of the above, but the tires have been really good so far so tried to reflect that in the marks.
First time I’ve changed the tires from the ones it came on. Can’t notice any difference which he said was good as the same tires he replaced would have cost me a lot more.
