Matador MP 47 Hectorra 3

The Matador MP 47 Hectorra 3 is an economy ultra high performance summer tire that can feel like a bargain in everyday use, with many drivers praising its quiet, comfortable ride and reassuring dry-road grip for the price. However, both real-world feedback and independent testing point to clear safety margins being lost in the wet. If you mainly drive in fair weather and want low-cost refinement, it can make sense; for frequent rain or high-demand driving, its limitations are harder to ignore.

Matador MP 47 Hectorra 3 Owner Reviews

Review this tire

What owners say summarised from 22 reviews

Drivers generally describe the Matador MP 47 Hectorra 3 as a strong value tire with good dry grip, comfortable ride quality, and low noise for the money. Many higher-scoring reviews are pleasantly surprised by overall performance and would buy again, sometimes even comparing it favorably to more expensive brands. However, a significant portion of users report noticeably weaker wet grip (braking/traction and confidence in rain, sometimes with wheelspin or understeer), making wet performance the most common concern.

End of Life

I wasn't used to spinning wheels on dry roads on my car even when I wanted to. These tires made it real. Maybe it was just bad luck (or because they were made in Portugal) but these had really bad grip on both dry and wet road.
After maybe a year of use and 10 000km small chunks of rubber started to fall off the tires. Some of the tires worn out too unevenly for a summer tire - I'd expect something like that from a winter tire which in my case doesn't really show any sign of uneven wear.

Bought these 3 years ago and yeah I probably have to do a geometery on my car but I can see very excessive wear on the outside while there is absolutely no wear on my winter Nokian tires. Also those Michelins I had before these Matadors lasted 9 years with almost no wear at all, only that the rubber started to crack already.
I should mention that my Matador tires were made in Portugal.
Just don't save the money so hard, you won't save them anyway. Even though those made somewhere else than Portugal might be a better quality.

Its an average budget tire. It has an expected and slightly below average level of wet grip and dry grip. It wears as expected for a budge tire too. I will go back to a hankook ventus s3 after this cost cutting and mildly disappointing experience.

Probably the worst tires I ever had, barely grips in the dry and even worse in the rain.

Bought these for my 2006 Skoda Fabia 1.2 (not exactly a car to set the world alight with so-called power). These tires were a welcome upgrade from the cheap things that were on it when I purchased the car. These tires were very good in the dry and made the car feel very planted on the road, however, in the wet they'd be absolutely hopeless as they'd be very prone to spin when setting off at the likes of roundabouts. I'd only buy these again if they were better in the wet.

I have driven around 10k km on these tires and I have mixed feelings. GOOD: - very good dry grip - tires are really quiet - decent handling and road feedback - perfect price BAD: - average wear - everything gets worse when it starts raining, tires have absolutely no grip o wet! (compare to other tires I had like Dunlop Bluresponse or even very average Bridgestone Turanza ER300) - surprisingly when it rains more they have good aquaplaning resistance NOTE: - based on size they can be made in Slovakia, France, Germany etc. I have feeling that those from Western Europe are different, my parents in law have 205/55/16 from Germany and when you touch the rubber it feels different

Matador tires are very popular budget brand in my country (Slovakia). Therefore pricing on these is really attractive and only reason for which I would consider them again. These tires are decent in the dry, but in rainy weather they get slippery, especially in colder conditions (7-15 C as it is still a summer tire). They are so bad in the wet that I am always looking forward to my Sava Eskimo hp2 when the autumn starts. and it does tell you something about a summer tire when it gives the driver less confidence then economy winter tire on the wet. Another complaint about these tires is the soft side wall, so I would strongly advise against these for a sporty drive. I regularly drive on these also in 205/50 R15 size, and they are slightly more bearable.

I had these on the back of my four wheel drive estate. They lasted 12,000 miles through summer and never lost grip in the wet or dry, but it would be more interesting to try them on the front next time. Aside from average wear resistance, the only issue I have with them is the necessity to inflate the tires slightly over recommended/other brands to make them sit comfortably. I think for the right price these can be a good middle range tire. They DID loose grip when heavily worn in the wet, actually quite considerably. Not a problem when new/moderately worn.
