245/45 18 Tire Review Highlights

RoadX RXMOTION U11 rated 34% while driving a Ford Focus
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 average miles
These were new on the front of my Ford focus which I bought second hand in January. 16k on tje clock and rear tires still had factory original michelin pilot 4s on . These tires have to be the worst I have ever driven on in over 30 years of motoring. Horrible feedback and the grip is borderline dangerous. Ended up buying 4 goodyear asymmetric 6 tires and the car is like a different car. Full confidence going into a roundabout and don't have to judge if your goi g to slide or take someone out . These tires should be avoided at all costs. Spend more and stay safe.

Hankook Winter i cept evo3 rated 91% while driving a Audi S5
Driving on mostly motorways for 7000 average miles
After reviewing Tire Review data I selected the Hankook tires, and it helped the dealership was having a winter sale… $1800CAD including factory rims was a great deal.

It’s been two seasons now with three conditions being dry, then wet, then snow by the number of driving days. On dry roads to ride is comfortable with stable handling and the grip is assured and precise with on ramps, long and medium corners. They lose some composure with sharp turning, and the braking takes a little longer than I’d like. This is probably the least inspiring aspect of all the parameters. Wet performance is very good, with turn and corners being very assured. And the wet braking feels better in the wet than the dry? Not sure how but that’s the way it feels. The best part now… The snow is just a blast with these Hankooks. Very grippy whether braking, accelerating or turning the vehicle; this tire does it all in the snow.

After just under 10,000 km the tread looks unused, with more than 7mm across each tire.

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 rated 90% while driving a Opel
Driving on mostly country roads for 30000 average miles
These tires are fitted on a large Opel Insignia, the handling is amazing in all circumstances and driving in mountain roads with thick snow and ice is no issue. They are probably not as good on dry roads in the summer but they remain very good compared to others. They last at least 50,000 KM for the rear tires and 45,000 KM for the front tires, as I drive around 50,000KM a year I need to change them once a year. I predominantly drive on secondary mountain roads this is very demanding for tires the rest is done on highways I would honestly consider that you are driving predominantly on highways at standard speed (130 KPH) you can expect to achieve 60,000 km with the four tires (do not forget to permut them though). They are much better than the continental all seasons I have on my mercedes EQE. Companring both tires I would say that the handling on dry roads is better with the continental but once it gets wet/snowy or icy the Goodyear is a lot better. From what I can see with the mercedes although it is a lot heavier than the opel, the continental will probably need replacement after 30,000 KM. I wish I could fit the Good Years on the mercedes but it is not allowed on this car only mchelin and continental all seasons tires have been registered.

So far, amazing tire. One of the best ever made. It grips and it handles so much better than the eagle f1 asymmetric6, the previously fitted on this car, and the wintercontact ts 850 p on another. And the comfort, its like the car is floating. Not cheap though.

Driving on a combination of roads for 9500 spirited miles
Initially the tires were decent on both dry and wet roads however after only 9500 miles they're down to 3mm which for the price is dissaponting..The performance dropped off significantly when under 5mm. By which I mean they have never been dangerous just lost their controlled grip... Don't think I'd buy them again due to lack of value for money and low mileage.

OEM for the i4e40. The tire has very obvious priorities. Rolling resistance and noise. It really excels in these two areas. But thankfully it is not useless in all other key aspects. Dry, wet, braking, feedback, they are all ok. Not great, but not mediocre either. Great choice for this car, but I will choose something better for the next round, even if I give away a couple of dozen miles of range

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 67% while driving a Volkswagen Arteon 2,0L Tsi
Driving on a combination of roads for 10 average miles
The car came fitted with this tire and after about 10k km I think that I can share my opinion with them. To start with the good things i will say that the tire is comfortable, has low fuel consumption(my 2.0tsi arteon cand average between 5-5.5l/100km when driven normally) , not very noisy and the wear is very good(yes they have aprox. 6.5-6.7 when new but after 10k km they have worn less than 1mm). Emergency braking în dry on normal and rough tarmac is good but over very smooth roads it is shockingly bad. The dry handling is also average and If you start to push the car înto bends it does lean and start to understeer quiet a lot(fwd car may also influence this, but it does seem a bit much). Without a doubt the worst part of the eco contact 6 is its wet grip. I haven't had any issues with aquaplaning but the wet traction is horrible. I can barely start from a standstill at anything but a sedated pace without wheelspin. Also at one time I could barely crawl to a start on a hill during a rainy day with the esp kicking in multiple times.
All in all I think that if you want a comfortable, efficient tire that is not noisy and you drive sedately this tire might satisfy your needs. But if you are driving a relatively heavy car and looking for a tire that has above average grip and are concearned about handling I think that there are much better options out there.

Best tires I used to rebuy them again and again, Im a snowboarder and I can easily say that sava combination with audi quattro are simply unstoppable I have never had any issues with them definitely recommend them buying they are not very expensive and being honest I had much better performance in snow than my friends with premium brands. Very good

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 71% while driving a Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
I'm going to compare these tires to the ones i have on my other car, Sava Intensa UHP 2 on an E class coupe. The previous tires on the Audi were the Goodyear Eagle f1 Super Sport. I don't drive aggressively so i can't really speak about the grip, but i haven't broken traction yet (its the quattro though). They are virtually identical to the SS in terms on grip but in handling, the sidewall is softer on the 6 which makes it more comfortable, but more prone to understeer. The car is comfortable on its own but with these tires it makes really smooth. But, the wear, especially on the front left side - is terrible. It has already shown signs of degradation. On the other three tires, it is decent.

But, the Sava Intensa UHP 2 on the e class is probably the same tire in terms of performance and its 60% less expensive. Also, the Goodyear is made in Slovenia and the Sava is made in Germany, weird. The attributes I value the most is comfort (which the Sava also has) and handling but you can't have both with tires. I really can't recommend this tire since there are ones that do nearly the same for much less. Also, if it is some testament for the quality of Slovenian and German manufacturing, the sidewall of the Sava is much more resilient of dust and the rubber is in a much better condition whereas the Goodyear's sidewall is very dry and when there is no dressing it is brown in color.

Falken Azenis FK510 rated 64% while driving a Citroën C5
Driving on mostly country roads for 22000 spirited miles
The tires were fitted to the car since I bought it (used). They were 1.5 years old when I bought the car, with 15000 km (8000 miles) fitted beginning of 2020. I have done 20k km with the car since, so tires changed at 35k km.
From 15-20000 km they were performing really good, dry and wet conditions. At around 20k I had swapped front and back ones as wear was pretty high at the front, and from 20-25k wet grip was fading. I had also experienced balancing issues (around 120+ km a mild rattling of the steering wheel).
I would say that for the first 20k it's a really high performance tire, as grip was amasing, dry and wet, but as it wears out it starts becoming more and more slippery. At the end of their life they were kind of dangerous in the wet, and 35k kilometers (~28k miles) it's not that high for the price of 18 inch tires (rears were at the same level as the legal limit indicators). I have gone to something completely different (higher profile 17 inches to try how my hydractive suspension behaves) so I cannot give a direct comparison, obviously the new tires are grippier than the almost slick falkens :p
