Passenger Car Summer Max Performance Tires Tire Review Highlights

Continental MaxContact MC7 rated 89% while driving a Saab Automobile Lynk&Co 07 EM P
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
I drive a Lynk&Co 07 EM-P plug-in hybrid in China. Replaced the OEM set of Goodyear ElectricDrive Asymmetric5s to these after 16000km, noticed significant improvement in dry/wet grip as well as comfort. Compared to the OE Goodyears, they offer a much more compliant ride, as well as much improved/less harsh road noise. Steering feels more connected, especially when accelerating out of a corner. Feels progressive on/over the limit. It is definitely worse for wear compared with the Goodyears, energy consumption also increased by 5-10%, but I feel like it is a worthwhile tradeoff. As the purchase price is 15% less than the same size PS5, it is of great value. Would strongly recommend.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 94% while driving a Mercedes Benz E280
Driving on mostly motorways for 1200 spirited miles
Very very comfortable, have them on my w211 mercedes e class, changed the car completely, be it comfortability or drivability, only had them for 2 months so I dont know much about durability / wet handling but I bet theyll be better than anything ive had before.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 89% while driving a Saab Automobile 9 5 2.0t BioPower Estate (180bhp)
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
Excellent grip when new on dry and wet on street and track. Still very good at end of life at 15000km. Changed to these from Turanza T005 and the difference in grip, handling and feedback was monumental. They were also much more comfortble and quiet untill in their 3rd summer when they became louder inside the vehicle. Would have liked to get to end of this summer but I had several track days with them already and the last leg of 2000km spirited driving on mountains took the rubber out of them. Seems like the wear accelerates towards end of life and they become more noisy. Unfortunately I also had too much pressure for 1000-2000km or so in mid life which contributed to excess wear. The set costed me 375€ so I think it was excellent value for the driving enjoyment. Would be a waste to use these on a daily commuter as they would just wear more than non UHP's.

Hankook Ventus Evo rated 74% while driving a MINI JCW 2020
Driving on mostly country roads for 13000 spirited miles
Brilliant tire performance on Schnitzer wheels / suspension. Tire wear = as expected.
PROBLEM = never had so many punctures / need to reset tire pressures using this tire brand - over 7000 miles in 2 years.
I have driven sport cars for 40 years - tires mostly Pirelli, Michelin or (in earlier years) Goodyear , until this Hankook tire.
QU: please can I ask why you did not consider Hankook in your 2025 best performance tire test ?
Schnitzer recommend Falcon for its Mini JCW F56 wheel - but I think I am going to go with Pirelli, having read your 2025 review

Pirelli P Zero PZ5 rated 97% while driving a BMW 2022 M240i XDrive
Driving on mostly country roads for 350 spirited miles
Purchased these tires off the back of Jonathan's YouTube review. Replaced a set of Pilot Sport 4S star marked tires.

Despite the overwhelmingly good review, I was still a little skeptical about getting some Pirelli tires. I'm glad I pushed through my prejudice and got them.

My god do they stick you to the road. Same corners, same speed with the PS4S the car would step out on me, even with traction control fully on. With the PZ5, not a hint of oversteer unless you turn off traction control and try to put down more power.

I haven't had much chance to try performance in the wet due to the dry weather we've been having in the UK, but I have no doubt it is excellent given Jonathan's review.

Steering responsiveness is a noticeable improvement from the Michelin's and they just overall feel a lot more predictable and has given me complete confidence in the car.

Only downside I have experienced is that fuel economy is about 5% worse on a long run, but that's a non-issue considering the performance.

Pirelli P Zero rated 79% while driving a Jaguar F Pace 3.0D AWD S
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 spirited miles
I've driven on P-Zero's for the last 40 years from R5 Turbos, BMW 3Series & now Jaguar F-Pace. They have always performed in the dry handling & their wear characteristics are much better now, I used to get 6-8K miles out of them in the 90's, now get 30K miles. They are not the quietest of tires on rough tarmac, but they do grip quite well in the wet when its worm. I only use as summer tires. I had some all season Scorpions on the 20" winter wheels & you can definately feel the loss of grip by comparison in the dry.

Pirelli P Zero PZ5 rated 97% while driving a Audi B8.5 S4 Avant (modified)
Driving on a combination of roads for 2756 spirited miles
I’ve always bought Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (PS4S), on a track-spec BMW 335i and then on my Audi S4 Avant. I tried Continental SportContact7 (SC7), I was blown away by the difference vs PS4S; but only I got 6k miles out of them - the rear treads on 275/30ZR19 cracked and were at 3mm of tread, my front toe settings/suspension setup also caused inner tire balding. So I used PS4S on the S4, I managed 18k miles out of them but always felt they lacked feedback, ultimate grip and progressiveness. The PZ5 came out and after watching the review, I decided to try them.

The S4 is stage 1 tuned at 450BHP//550NM with a tastefully modified adaptive suspension (springs, bushings, roll bars and drivetrain inserts) - to test these tires, this review is based on a trip to North Wales and now recently back from the Swiss/Italian Alps, German Autobahns (including a top speed run) and finally the Nurburgring. The car was given hell in a variety of road conditions, albeit mostly hot, dry and twisty - though I was very impressed even in the cold, wet and very wet - they were still very sticky and better than PS4S without question, leagues ahead even (realistically not a even the real competition).

Now... these are better than SC7, they’re more progressive and the front and rear axles in my Sport Diff’ed Quattro really felt in synch, it was far more difficult to get the back to step out vs PS4S. These Pirellis overall offer more steering feedback, feel more responsive and also more agile when making inputs at any speed. They're slightly stickier but definitely more comfortable vs SC7. And, after a lap of the Nordschleife they were fine - the SC7 let go earlier for sure (tested in the Scottish Highlands & even more local spirited driving - at least 3000 miles of driving them at ten tenths to prove them).

After 2756 miles, the fronts are at 5.9mm and rears at 6mm - giving them a projected range of at least 11000 miles with this manner of driving and assumed higher rolling resistance due to higher temperatures abroad. I’d estimate greater longevity in the UK being daily driven with occasional spirited driving. Highly recommend this tire, definitely my go-to, Pirelli have gotten their act together and taken down the SC7 (I didn’t think this was possible) whilst also doubling the range?

Just a final thing to note - the PZ5 got better after a few hundred miles, they lost the softness and gained a sharpness when it came to the steering, I also felt they required less heat to feel like you were on rails. I am also directly comparing these most recently to PS4S which were worn down to 2mm which, at that tread depth, felt so much sharper vs when they were new.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 60% while driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance Mk. 7.5
Driving on mostly country roads for 1500 spirited miles
I purchased these ~1500miles ago. I had needed to replace sport contact 7’s that had worn out after 6 months of use. I have been please with the appearance, noise and sub limit grip and price on these tires. They were ~£10 cheaper than a replacement set of continentals. As for sub limit grip they do have plenty of grip in the wet and dry.

Unfortunately when I compare them with the SC7’s I had I’ve grown to hate these tires. They have nothing left on or over the limit. And when you do go over the limit the SC7’s would generate predictable oversteer the Goodyears just plow straight on. There’s also very little feel in the tire at the limit, feels quite numb. Maybe they will have great life that will outweigh these negatives however I’d rather buy tires a bit more frequently than have an almighty crash on a Scottish country road because my car stopped turning.

Kumho Ecsta Sport PS72 rated 87% while driving a Audi A4 2.0 TDI 140 SLine
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
Bought these tires dur to the very good reviews of ps71. I do not have a sporty car, but the dry grip and braking it’s excellent. Never felt the tires struggling for grip.

They are not loud, but wouldn't they are necessarily quiet. You can hear them a bit depending on the road surface and speed.

Didn’t drive them too much in the rain, but seem to hold pretty well in wet conditions.

Mounted them in march this year and after 10-15k km I don’t see any major wear, but I would have to abstain on this one until I get them properly measured.

All in all, very good value tires and they looks preety good on my car
