Passenger Car Summer Max Performance Tires Tire Review Highlights

Pirelli P Zero PZ4 rated 51% while driving a BMW M3
Driving on a combination of roads for 17 average miles
These came stock on my BMW M3

I managed 28k km on them

When new, the tires were decent, after 15k km, the tires became noisy and grip became poor

After 28k km, there were cracks on the tires and require replacement

Very disappointing wear

Continental MaxContact MC7 rated 100% while driving a Tesla 2024 Model 3 RWD
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
Got these after reading reviews at tirereviews.com, replacing the OEM Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 tires on our Tesla Model 3. And they have lived up to the reviews. Compared to the Hankooks, they give a much more comfortable ride on good surfaces, as well as poor ones and over bumps in the road, but still allowing you to feel connected to the road. The ride also feels really planted, with excellent grip, giving me more confidence around corners and in the rain. Noise levels may be marginally higher, and EV efficiency has gone down slightly (134 instead of 121 Wh/km). Remaining factor will be tire life - I got 55,000km out of the Hankooks, so hopefully I get something similar with these Continentals. I am still curious to see what the Hankook iON AS tires are like, but the extra cost of those over these Continentals makes me think more than twice about getting them, so likely to stay with these Continentals next time.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S rated 74% while driving a BMW M760i xDrive
Driving on mostly town for 10000 average miles
The stock runflat Pirelli P0 PZ4 came with G12 M760i is nothing about comfort or performance. I went for 4 PS4S without * as there's no BMW spec PS4S with 245/40/R20 size (front, actually 275/35/R20 PS4S * is for F90 M5 front).
Pros
1. Compatible with xDrive on G12 M760i (probably also good with other AWD G12 7er models): No noise or abnormaly with the central clutchpack diff.
2. Comfy: non-runflat. Soft and cushioning. PS4S makes M760i a real 7er
3. Performance: Better 0-60. Better grip all time (not for winter). More confidence with the weight and torque, though just a little bit, after you get used to it, as the suspension might be optimized with runflats (the suspension seems too soft with non-runflats).

Cons:
1. Poor handling: The suspension is too soft with non-runflats. I know it's not fair because it's not the issue with tires. But the feel is not sporty, but kinda Rolls-Royce.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 53% while driving a Mercedes Benz CLS 220
Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 average miles
This is kind of an update after 6k kilometres and 2 years: I've bought it 2023.07, DOT is 2023.05. I store my car in a garage, and the wear is negligible. My main reason to switch to this PS4 was to improve the wet handling. With the 4years old P Zeros, the car was undriveable in wet conditions. Sliding, drifting all the time, instead of a safe cornering or accelerating. The PS4 was a dream. Glued the the asphalt. Nothing, just grip like its dry. Even when I' did a full throttle in the middle of a 90degree corner to test... Superb. But yesterday we had a rainy day, and it was the first time this year I drove my car in these conditons...and gosh i was devastated. I was sliding around in the town. Cannot do swift accelerate, cannot do a swift lane change. Car is drifting, sliding, spinning, the electronics are constantly working to keep the car on the road. And I'm not a road warrior, its not that... however when it was new, even the crazy stunts were easy(I was trying to find the limits) without even the safety electronics turning on, it was just pure grip. So all in all I'm devastated that a PS4, stored in a garage, no UV, no freeze, 6-6.5mm tread, cared very well... and its ready to be thrown out after 1.5seasons. (I use a 4 season for winter tire between nov and march, so it is almost like that im just storing the PS4 :D ) I'm really really devastated that my PS4 is dangearous in wet after 1.5-2years. This is unacceptable. Even a chinese cheap something lasts longer. (I'll skip the very price Michelins, since the PS4S on my other car cracked after about 6 years...i dont expect perfect grip after 6 years, but those huge, deep cracks...i could even see the steel inner of the tire...pathetic :( Hankook and GY is still king in this aspect. Pirelli and Michelin are only good for 1 year and testing/reviewing)

Hankook Ventus Evo rated 75% while driving a Alfa Romeo 156 SW 1.9 JTD
Driving on mostly country roads for 1200 average miles
Bought these to replace Kormoran UHP.

Wanted a "top 5" tire, but at the best price as possible. Came over Hankook ventus Evo, as a good allrounder option. Compared with the usual Ps5, Asymetric 6, and Premium contact 6/7, Pirelli C7 cf3, the hankook at least in norway came at a better price. I have not yet tested evo s1 or evo s3. I am not sure where the Ventus evo sits between the prime and S1 series performance wise. Maybe between those two.

I am not to say the Ventus Evos are better than any of the other mentioned options. But for what they replaced the difference is night and day! And for myself and 95% of other drivers, we wont be able to tell much difference betweens these evos and any of the other premium brands. This is how good the top tires are nowadays. I earlier have had premium contact 6 and primacy 4 on my cars for reference. The hankooks are more comfortable than both of those, but maybe not the same initial steering response than the contis. But at normal driving, you will never notice.

The upside are as mentioned; comfort, a solid, even handling caracteristic, maybe the best wet grip i have ever felt. The abs almost dont interfear anymore when panic-braking at wet surface! In norway with over 300 rain days per year, that means a lot!

The other positive are rolling resistance. The car glides like ive never felt before, better than contis and michelin, and heaps better than the kormoran, wich felt like driving with the brakes on.

The sidewall looks the best, on par with pilot sport series. And a nice, subtle rim protector also.

Have not tested wear yet, but normally in norway tires get changed because of age before wear, because of the extra winter set and the low speeds/cold clima. We dont wear out tires as fast as in the warm, high speed countries. I suspect wear will not be an issue for me.

All in all a great tire and i mabye have forund my go-to, allround tire in the Hankook Ventus Evo !

Strongly recommed this.

Continental Sport Contact 3 rated 61% while driving a Honda Civic 1.8
Driving on mostly motorways for 1000 spirited miles
Good tires with good grip but worst comfort wise. They are extremely noisy and you feel each and every minor road Crack in your car and steering. Not good experience comfort wise. But handling and grip is good.

Pirelli P Zero PZ5 rated 100% while driving a BMW 520D M Sport Touring
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 miles
I replaced my Continental Sportcontact 7 with Pirelli P Zero PZ5s. The Continentals were very good in the dry and wet, the Pirellis are better.
I've had Goodyear Asymmetric 6, Michelin Pilot Sport 4, Falken Azenis 520.
But the Pirellis are very, very good.

Vredestein Ultrac Pro rated 90% while driving a Mazda CX 5 turbo
Driving on mostly country roads for 6000 spirited miles
Running on 4700 lb vehicle with turbo that's driven aggressively and this tire keeps contact and transmits that road surface feel to driver. Performance with ABS engagement is superbly jarring with an unbelievably short distance at low speed, giving a full stop! now effect that is transmitted audibly to wheel. This is my second season summer switch from Wintrac Pro tires these have very little signs of wear at 6000 miles; Will definitely buy newest version when replacing them. The built in Rim Protector is an excellent feature that has kept Curb Rash away so far.

Continental SportContact 7 rated 47% while driving a Audi TT S
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
They were good at first version.. now they are made very soft sidewalls and no more sporty driving or feedback it's more a tourism tire now.. spirited driving around canyons will last 3000km and sidewalls are gone even with 1.4 negative camber. 300km and 40% of sidewalls are already gone. Very disappointed they are not the same anymore they probably changed compound that's my 3rd set and only 1st set felt as the reviews said.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 83% while driving a Toyota Previa
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
Tires are on a Toyota Previa. These tires have seriously good grip. Previously had used Michelin primacy 4STs and these were better in every department except wear. One year later and it is calling out to me to be replaced.
Must say I felt safe driving my MPV in both mundane city driving and some spirited driving in the countryside in the neighbouring country. Drives through rain almost like it's a dry road. Cornering feels nice, handling is good. Responsive to braking, especially when roads are wet. V slightly noisy but hey, it's a UHP tire, it's bound to have some amount of noise. Make it last longer and I will happily buy it again.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 rated 80% while driving a Honda Civic Type S 2.2 i CDTi
Driving on a combination of roads for 25000 spirited miles
The tires from the moment I bought them transformed the car grip and handling. It felt more engaging driving and fun. Mountain driving became more footed and the car invited you to roll at a higher pace. Breaking and accelerating were also improved. The only downside was (Comming from Hankook) wet performance was a bit worse. Not a problem just worst. And aquaplaning happened faster than the Hankook, otherwise stellar tires. But since I live in Spain, could not care less for the trade-off.
