Fitment comes from each tire's manufactured size list, and the sizes are the ones drivers reported when they reviewed. Check the size, load index and speed rating on your own doorplate before buying - a size a previous owner ran is not always the size your car left the factory on.

How long do tires last on the Audi A3?

Across 45 end of life reviews from Audi A3 drivers, a typical set of tires was worn out after 23,000 miles. Half of all worn-out sets lasted between 10,000 miles and 40,000 miles.

Distances are self-reported by drivers whose review marked the set as worn out; figures are medians, so a single unusual report cannot move them.

Cooper Summer 205-55-16 Audi A3 10,000 miles October 13, 2026

Value for money, the tire came from a continental primum with a 7 which stuck to the road, but it was noisy and quite a bit more expensive than the Cooper. Its disadvantages are that it doesn't brake well in the dry and doesn't have such good feedback on the road. The law is a quiet, comfortable tire that can handle many demands and will not let you down.

Cooper Summer 205-55-16 Audi A3 8P Sport 2.0 FSI 8,000 miles October 13, 2026

I had previous Continental Premium 7 the difference has mainly to do with noise I consider the cooper They are quieter and have worse grip than the Continental Premium 7 It's not that fast in the corner. However, it's a decent tire for everyday use without having many demands. 290€ for a set of four I consider a decent price.

Continental AllSeasonContact 2 225-45-17 Audi A3 15,000 miles October 4, 2026

Softer than the summer performance tires I used previously. These suit the car much better and don’t loose too much feeling when pushed to their limit, and can still be fun on a warm day. Would much rather know my tires will get me somewhere on a bad day rather than be at optimum on warm day in a B road.

Very rough and noisy ride on this car, why do Audi use it?

56%
Falken Azenis FK520 225-45-17 Audi A3 Sportback 12,094 miles September 22, 2026

I got these tires with the car I purchased. They weren't my choice — I wanted Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, but there was no option to choose the tires when ordering the car.

At first, I thought they weren't that bad. It could have been worse — I could have ended up with Nexens. I read some reviews and test results and thought, "Okay, these seem like pretty decent tires, it shouldn't be too bad."

Unfortunately, the trouble-free period lasted only about 900 km in 2024, after I picked up the car from the dealership in the autumn.

In spring 2025, after switching back to these tires, I went to have the wheel alignment checked. The technician actually told me he felt sorry for me because I had to drive on these tires — that's how noisy they were.

I thought, okay, I'll have them road-force balanced and properly set up, and everything should be fine.

Well, it wasn't.

I measured 60–75 N of radial force variation. The noise starts becoming noticeable at around 110 km/h and gets progressively worse up to 140 km/h. The wheels themselves are perfectly fine, and there is simply no way to eliminate this level of radial force variation through balancing.

I filed a warranty claim with Audi. They performed a test drive, but only around town. Despite my requests to take the car onto the highway, they rejected the claim.

I then filed a complaint with Audi Poland, but that didn't help either. They sided with the dealership, saying that the dealership has the means to verify the tires and that they trust their authorized partners.

But the noise isn't the only problem.

These tires are definitely not what I would call UHP tires. They provide absolutely no feedback through the steering wheel. Zero.

But that's still not the worst part. They really don't cope with standing water.

When there is standing water on the road, I wouldn't feel comfortable driving faster than around 80 km/h, even on a highway. The tires also spin easily when pulling away from a standstill. Interestingly, they don't have the same problem in the rain when there isn't standing water.

On dry pavement, the grip is actually okay — I'd even say quite good. However, I cannot recommend these tires because, for me, their behavior in standing water completely disqualifies them. I've driven on many other tires (Michelin Primacy HP, Michelin Primacy HP, Avon ZV5, Hankook Ventus Prime 3, Uniroyal Rainexpert) and have never experienced similar issues.

As for progression when losing grip, they do give you some warning before they start to let go, at least in wet conditions. But having to stay below around 70 km/h to feel comfortable in those conditions is simply not good enough for a UHP tire in the 21st century.

As for wear, it's acceptable and I have no major complaints. However, after the first 5,000 km, the tread depth dropped by as much as 2 mm, which is quite a lot. After that, though, the rate of wear seems to have slowed down.

One more positive thing I forgot to mention: after two years, the tires have shown no signs of cracking or dry rot.

Bridgestone Turanza 6 225-40-18 Audi A3 9,000 miles July 7, 2026
Tire has been decent initially, but after a year and less than 10k miles it started to develop small cracks between and at the base of tread. Significant loss of grip on wet motorway, noise level increased, fuel effieciency dropped.. handling is terrible too, floats like a boat with no precision, especially on high speed. Absolutely avoid! Terrible tire.

Hankook Ventus Prime 4 225-45-17 Audi A3 Sportback 38,000 miles July 5, 2026
Good tires, there are others that are even better but more expensive and you don't use them for that many km. Good quality-price-usage ratio, grade 8-9. At what price would I buy them again?

Pirelli P Zero PZ4 225-45-17 Audi A3 Sportback 7,000 miles June 19, 2026
After the Pilot Sport 5, which I really liked as a perfectly all-around tire with a sporty touch (please, Michelin, add just a touch more sportiness to this wonderful product), low rolling resistance for a UHP tire, and good tread wear resistance.
I wanted to try Pirelli (I’d never had them on either a car or a motorcycle before); the only option available for my rims was the PZ4 with BMW-spec

First impressions: the ride is very firm, a step above the PS5. The road feedback is more sport-oriented, but I know that the PZ4s are UUHP and not UHP. Fuel consumption has increased by as much as 10%... both the PZ4s and the PS5s were in fuel economy class C, but I think the PZ4s lean more toward class D...

Handling: not exactly great. The tires are sporty, but they feel stiff and sluggish in corners. It takes a lot of effort to turn the wheels. In this regard, I much preferred the PS5s. Same story at high speeds, where the PS5s felt more stable and predictable.

Grip: When new, both dry and wet grip were amazing! Grip galore everywhere and on every surface, whether hot or cold. It didn’t matter... grip was always guaranteed. BUT after 10,000 km (about 7,000 miles), I noticed the first drop in pure grip. The tires felt a bit spongy, with grip that was suddenly less firm at the same speed compared with band new status. With Michelin you didn't feel any grip drop, with Pirelli yes. Like modern F1 tires

Wear: after 10k kms front tires are at mid life, the rear one have a bit more tread. I think I could menage other 10/15k kms before replacing them.

Conclusions: PZ4 are a good product, they have plenty of grip, good road feedback with sporty feeling, but they also tend to offer mid pack performance once worn. The lost in grip after mileage is something people must keep in mind during tire choice

I have to buy a new tire because Hankook Winter i*recept rs3 had the quality issues.. Hankook generates vibration and radial runout.. After very positive reviews and test results I decide to buy Kumho Wintercraft WP52+ in the size 225 45 r17.

I made one season on this tires and had opportunity to test this tires in each conditions, because this year winter in Poland was very snowy and cold. The tires are very quiet. Quieter than my Sommer Falken Fk520...

The grip on the dry and wet I great, the tires are very comfortable. And the quaility of the tire is great. Because of the bad experience with falken and Hankook. I decided to check the tire on Hunter road force test. And the results were impressing. 25N,10N,5N!. One tire was worse because have rubber rissees form production and has 85 N... But I got information that this rubber rissees will go out after the driving and it was true.

I am very satisfied with this tires. I forgot to mention about snow and ice grip and it was very good. On the ice usually only the studs help, but during this winter I don't have any issues with grip and handling. Well done Kumho.

I didn't evaluate the grip because it is the first season and I didn't make as many km as usually.

I had to buy new tires because the Hankook Winter i*cept RS3 had quality issues. The Hankooks generated vibrations and had radial runout problems. After reading many positive reviews and test results, I decided to buy the Kumho WinterCraft WP52+ in size 225/45 R17.

I used these tires for one season and had the opportunity to test them in all conditions, because this winter in Poland was very snowy and cold. The tires are very quiet - even quieter than my summer Falken FK520 tires.

The grip on dry and wet roads is great, and the tires are very comfortable. The build quality is also excellent. Because of my bad experiences with Falken and Hankook, I decided to check the tires using a Hunter Road Force test, and the results were impressive: 25 N, 10 N, and 5 N. One tire performed worse because it had rubber residues from production and showed 85 N, but I was informed that the issue would disappear after some driving - and it did.

I am very satisfied with these tires. I almost forgot to mention the snow and ice performance, which was also very good. On ice, usually only studded tires provide perfect grip, but during this winter I had no issues with traction or handling. Well done, Kumho.

I didn’t evaluate tread wear yet because this was only the first season and I haven’t driven as many kilometers as usual.

These tires came as factory tires on my Audi A3. It’s a tire that takes a while to warm up. Once it’s warmed up, it grips well. However, even though it’s a 150 HP car, it tends to spin its wheels more than expected in 1st and 2nd gears. It can also exhibit understeer in corners. I’m not entirely sure how much of this is due to the car itself. I didn’t like its performance in the rain at all. It fell short of my expectations. Also not exactly a quiet tire.

Every rating on this page was submitted by a driver through the review form on this site, naming the car, the tire, the size and the distance covered. Reviews are checked by hand before publication, and the page rebuilds automatically as new ones arrive.

About the TR Score

The Tire Reviews Score rates each tire out of 10 using independent test results and the full body of owner reviews, so you can check a car-specific ranking against the wider evidence.

Who does the testing

Every test published as a Tire Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tires independently since 2007.
