Passenger Car Summer Ultra High Performance Tires Tire Review Highlights

Dunlop SP Sport LM 705 rated 90% while driving a Toyota Prius
Driving on mostly country roads for 111111 average miles
It’s good on both way wet or dry and so quiet

Falken Azenis FK510 rated 72% while driving a Mercedes Benz E430
Driving on mostly motorways for 0 average miles
After 20,000km, the tire tread has worn down to less than 3mm. Mercedes Benz E430 V8 rear tires. Very good in terms of aquaplaning, even in size 265/35/18! The tire is quiet, does not make noise. It may be a bit soft for sporty driving, but very comfortable for everyday driving. Very good price-quality ratio!

Nexen N Fera SU1 rated 50% while driving a Peugeot 308 sw 1.6 hdi
Driving on mostly motorways for 20000 easy going miles
As per other reviewers after 2 years my tires are cracked. Standard estate in the North of England, motorway driving 70mph tops. Had them on the rear axel and they've worn to 3mm after 20000 miles, switched them to the fronts and the noise is awful with 3mm remaining I don't want tires with cracks between the blocks.

Kumho Ecsta PS71 rated 88% while driving a Audi A5 2.0TFSI Quattro
Driving on mostly motorways for 2000 spirited miles
Had these tires on a 2019 Audi A5 Sportback S-Line with 20" Rims. After 2000km, I love these tires. My requirements were everyday comfort and minimal road noise, with a great balance in performance.

They were great in the dry, but where I really noticed their edge was in the wet. They give plenty of confidence while driving, braking, turning, and braking in the turn on wet roads, and this was exactly like the reviews I had read before.

Summary, highly recommend.

Hifly HF805 rated 57% while driving a Volkswagen Transporter
Driving on mostly country roads for 20000 average miles
They were fitted to my coach converted VW T6 on collection, and lasted 20,000 and four and a half years before really bad wear and splitting on tires walls. They are a budget tire and you get what you pay for. I've replaced them with Royal Black Royal Explorer II's, again a budget tire but I only do 4,500 miles a year.

Kumho Ecsta PS71 rated 41% while driving a Peugeot e208
Driving on mostly town for 15000 easy going miles
Have 4 of theses on a 2022 Peugeot 208 EV, noisy tire, car isnt quiet as it was with the original Michelin E-primacy but the michelins are fierce money. The tire pressure monitor came on when driving one day and i stopped and checked all tires and they were ok , i even ran my had around all tires to see if there was a screw or a nail in the tire and nothing so continued driving and after about 10 minutes the car very noisy and handling was bad so i knew i had a puncture and pulled in. I have a compressor in the boot so i tried to pump up the tire and air was flying out so i got the tire sealant and it was workig but the tire was blowing up in lumps so i knew the tire was all twisted. When i looked at the tire there was a big piece of rubber that came away from the tire so i seems to me the tire was bad and deformed and these tires are only a little over half worn also from the picture you can see cracks in between the treads. Whe i was looking up tires i did see a lot of people complained about thes tires loosing their shape and thats exactly what happened to this tire. On my experience i wont be buying kumho tires again . The tire is gone back to the garage that fitted them so i will wait and see what happens. I now have to buy 2 new tires even though the kumhos are only half worn.

Giti GitiSportS2 rated 57% while driving a Toyota Wish
Driving on a combination of roads for 75000 spirited miles
Fixed these tires on my Toyota Wish 1.8A. They started off being quiet tires and very responsive to the user's handling.

Around 7500 miles or 12000 kilometres, the tires started to become noisy upon reaching 60km or more. Also, I noticed that the tires started to go left and right. It has been a minor problem for now but I am not sure if it will get worse overtime. I have to counter sudden movement to prevent the car from swaying too much to one side.

The wear of the tires are still doing fine. Overall, in view of the safety and comfort of my passengers, I decided to switch these tires out.

For reference, the tires were running in a country with tropical rainforest climate and all summer season conditions like Malaysia.

RoadX RXMOTION U11 rated 61% while driving a Vauxhall Crossland X
Driving on a combination of roads for 35000 easy going miles
These came fitted on my Crossland which I bought at 17,000 miles from Arnold Clark. They looked very impressive. I think they must have been on since new. I have now driven the car for two years and it has reached 35,000 miles. Still four or five mm on the front tires.
Not impressed. They seem passable in the dry though the car seems rather rough over bumps and noisy on some road surfaces above sixty mph. That might be largely the large diameter lower profile wheels.
My biggest gripe is the wet grip - especially at slightly low temperatures. I get nervous accelerating modestly out of roundabouts and even in straight lines. The steering easily goes very light if you are not careful. Does not inspire confidence about wet stopping distances.
I've been saying that I really should change them since shortly after I got the car.
Just noticed that the sipes have worn away around two of the blocks of tread on the front tires - even though there is still at least 4 or 5 mm depth of tread in the main channels and the tread surface is nowhere near the wear bars. That prompted me to start looking at tire reviews as the absence of the sipes can only make the wet grip worse.

Toyo Proxes Sport 2 rated 90% while driving a BMW 320 d
Driving on for 600 spirited miles
An exceptional set of tires without a shadow of a doubt. Initially I was unsure as I've never had a set of Toyos and in particular it seemed that they were priced significantly less than the premium competition such as Michelin, Continental and Goodyear. Having had Goodyears before I was extremely happy with them but they were also much more expensive and when replacing all four there was a significant price difference that I could not justify.

Immediately my first observation compared to a previous set of Bridgestones, was that the sidewalls are extremely strong and do not have much flexion. This of course might not necessarily be good if you are looking for comfort, but these are marketed as sport tires, and so is to be expected. This makes for very sharp and precise cornering and also allows the car to respond well to changes in steering input, and provide good feedback to the driver. My complaint with having Bridgestone Turanzas before is that the weak sidewall was presumably designed such for poor road conditions; they led to extreme squealing around even slight corners and made steering response mediocre and road conditions were not communicated well. Not so here!

In terms of grip, I am extremely happy. Even when driving aggressively, it is very difficult to break traction. They are a very reassuring set of tires and even when needing to make emergency manoeuvres at higher speeds, at no point is there any concern that they will not do exactly as commanded. I have tried sharp cornering, slingshotting the car exiting roundabouts and they were extremely grippy. At one point I had to break hard and swerve to avoid someone racing on the freeway from causing a collision and again, they were extremely predictable and allowed me to get out of harm's way. In a real world situation, they did brilliantly.

On the motorway at 90mph/145kmph, again, perfect stability and lateral grip around twisty UK roads.

I haven't tried them in heavy rain yet, due to climate change and the season, we have only seen occasional showers. They were brief bouts of rain, but otherwise it's a little bit difficult to comment on their capability in wet weather.

I was definitely skeptical at first because ADAC and other reviewers put them towards the middle or bottom of the list which makes them sound quite poor. However, this must be taken in context as they are comparing the cream of the crop. In day-to-day driving and even spirited driving, the difference is really not as pronounced as you would imagine.

I paid £114.99 each on Asda Tires (cheaper than Blackcircles) - the Michelin PS5 are a whopping £174.99! 52% more for what is a relatively minimal difference between the two is absolutely not worth it unless you are driving a supercar. Seriously, look at the numbers - the Pilot Sports are nowhere near as impressive as the price would suggest them to be. When you start discussing the best tires on the market, the differences between them really are quite small.

The only criticism I would make - if there is one at all, is that they do not provide protection to the rims like tires do. Therefore, if you are parking on narrow streets and have a propensity for curbing your rims, then you'd better be careful!

Without a doubt, I will be going to Toyo next time over the top three - It is clear that the money is not spent on marketing and so they are significantly better value for money.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Sport rated 88% while driving a Honda Fit (Jazz)
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
Any judgement exists by virtue of context. In my case, the context is the set of OEM tires that came with my car, the Honda Jazz/Fit, 2018 model in Asia. After 5,5 years of ownership, I went through 2 sets of OEM tires: Bridgestone Turanza ER370 185/55/R16, having driven 47700 kilometers/ 29639 miles. In both cases replacement by necessity; dry rot cracking, due to South East Asian climate conditions. Still plenty of tread left actually. Anyway, the Turanza's were pretty decent, but they felt like wobbly balloons. Okay that's an exaggeration, but I was getting a bit tired of the amount of tire deflection during cornering and the wobbling rake during acceleration. If there was any element holding back this car's potential, it was the tires. So I set out to search for something more sporty - and this turned out to be a tougher challenge than I thought because UHP tires in this small size are hard / impossible to find in the Philippines, even if they do exist in the international market (for example; Continental ExtremeContact Sport). Eventually, I found these Goodyear Eagle F1 Sport tires for about 95 USD per tire, which is actually a rational and proportionally justifiable price for a car like the Honda Jazz on Philippines roads (potholes and all). It has to be said, that despite being wobbly balloons, the Turanza's featured excellent dry and wet grip, plenty within the range of Philippines speed limits (100 KPH) and even beyond that. In that sense, the Eagle F1 Sport had to at least perform equally to the Turanza's in order to not feel disappointed. Although I've only done about 500 kilometers so far (both city driving and expressway) I can safely say the Eagle F1 Sport tires exceed the Turanza ER370's; At the very least they match the dry and wet grip, but more important to me is how they changed the handling. And this brings me to the another aspect of my purchase choice; I went from the Turanza's 185/55/R16 to the Eagle F1 Sport in 195/50R16; This means a diameter decrease of 1.39 percent. This accentuates the stiffer sidewall and it also subtly affects the "gearing ratio" (car comes with a CVT). As intended, cornering feels a lot better now thanks to minimal tire deflection. Acceleration also feels better because the chassis rake doesn't wobble as much anymore front to rear axle. And all of this doesn't deteriorate comfort levels as far as I can tell, even with all the potholes and uneven road surfaces here in the Philippines. UTOG treadwear says 300, whereas the Turanza's said 320; but all of this is meaningless to me now because of the UV intense climate here. In fact, I've just purchased UV protective wheel covers to minimize the impact of heat, dampness and UV rays. For 95 USD per tire, I think the Eagle F1 Sport is the sweet-spot choice for this South East Asian scenario.

Kumho Ecsta PS71 rated 81% while driving a BMW E30
Driving on track for 500 spirited miles
After being used to old Federal 595RSR track tires, these are most certainly not in the same ball-park for outright grip as more aggressive track-orientated tires. I will say, I have been immensely surprised at an initial outing at Cadwell Park, covering around 100 track miles.
The Kumho provides a surprising amount of grip for a regular street tire; which eventually breaks away predictably. You can feel the taller tread blocks moving around a little, but it adds to the fun enabling the car to move around a bit more than a track tire would perhaps let you.
The tires seemed to wear a minimal amount and were not overcome by heat or scorching as I had feared they would; running about 32psi.
Will be interested to see how they continue to wear and perform with a few more trackdays.

Maxxis Victra Sport 5 rated 76% while driving a Mazda Demio Skyactiv
Driving on a combination of roads for 22500 spirited miles
Ive had these tires for 1 year now and after using them on a daily basis in my Mazda Demio (mazda 2 jdm variant) and driven around 30000-35000km on them honestly it was a blast. In the dry the grip is amazing, although in hot conditions it tends to wear out quick, even went to a track day where i did around 10-15 laps of testing the cars limit. In wet conditions they are also really good and live up to the rating as no matter how wet it is the grip is optimal to a certain point obviously and felt very safe. Cant tell you how smooth of a drive they are as i have aftermarket coilvers so any tire combination will feel stiff on bumps and potholes. Couple days ago (they were on their last 6k kilometres before being worn out completely) i popped them on a zig-zag road on a tiny pebble. So once these tires are on their last 10000km you should change them before you get left on the side of the road. Ive also noticed the outside of the tire got worn out faster than other areas of the tire, although the rims were always perfectly balanced, probably because of the heavy spirited driving. Other than that a pretty good clearance pick, as u can get michelin PS4/PS5s for a tiny amount more when you get fresh tires. In my case they were the last 4 tires and were heavily discounted, hence why i got them.
