2024 AutoBild Summer Tire Test

The 2024 AutoBild Summer Tire Test reviewed 20 premium touring summer tires in size 205/55 R16. The test focused on several key performance indicators including dry and wet braking, handling, noise, wear, value, and rolling resistance. 

Michelin Primacy 4+ ranked first, demonstrating a balanced performance with short braking distances and high efficiency. Continental PremiumContact 7 and Bridgestone Turanza 6 followed, showing strong wet and dry road performance and low wear levels.

Dry

The Continental PremiumContact 7 and Kumho Ecsta HS52 led dry braking, with the reference budget performing significantly worse.

The Falken Ziex ZE310 led the way in dry handling with the Vredestein Ultrac close behind.

Wet

Continental again led wet braking, this time with a small advantage over Kumho and Vredestein. As in the dry the reference budget tire was a complete disaster.

The Vredestein Ultrac was the fastest around wet handling, with the Kumho again showing well

The Vredestein Ultrac was the best in both straight and curved aquaplaning with the Uniroyal Rainsport 5 second in both of the deeper water tests.

Comfort

The Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 had the lowest external noise.

Value

The Goodyear also proved to have the best tread life on test, significantly ahead of Fulda, Michelin and Bridgestone. 

When you compare the cost of the tire against the projected tread life the Fulda and Goodyear proved to be the best value, with the Fulda being the only tire under 8 Euros per 1000/km. The Vredestein was over twice as expensive thanks to very low wear.

The Dunlop Sport BluResponse got its first win with the lowest rolling resistance, narrowly ahead of its sister brand, Goodyear.
