We look forward to the big Autobild braking tests in every season, and this year Autobild have tested 51 winter tires in wet braking (plus a summer tire), with the best 31 moving onto a snow braking test.
The top 20 combined distances from the wet and snow braking tests will feature in the full AutoBild winter tire test, on the site next week.

The summer tire demonstrated the performance gap that winter tires must overcome in wet conditions, stopping from 80 km/h in just 30.6 meters - significantly shorter than any winter tire. Among the winter tires, Goodyear led the wet braking performance at 32.6 meters, followed closely by Michelin at 33.2 meters and both Dunlop and Toyo at 33.3 meters. The spread in performance was substantial, with the top performers managing stops around 33-35 meters, while the poorest winter tires required over 45 meters - a difference that could prove critical in emergency situations.

In snow braking from 50 km/h, the winter tires demonstrated their purpose-built advantage over the summer reference, which required 51.1 meters to stop. Kleber achieved the shortest snow braking distance at 27.1 meters, with BF Goodrich close behind at 27.3 meters. Dunlop and Michelin followed at 27.5 and 27.8 meters respectively. The top performing tires clustered tightly between 27-29 meters, while the weakest performers extended beyond 32 meters, highlighting significant differences in snow compound and tread design effectiveness across the market.
