245/35 18 Tire Review Highlights

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 64% while driving a BMW M140i F20
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 easy going miles
Very good all round performance. They are better in terms of performance than my previous Michelin PS5. However wear rate is poor. They are worn out after only 8000 miles of steady driving on the rear. The fronts are about half worn, so it seems that to make them perform Goodyear have used a very soft compound. I would be happy to sacrifice some ultimate grip for longer life on my next tires.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 70% while driving a BMW M135i
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
I've been running these for some time now and the rear tires have finally worn out. For a performance car tire on a rear wheel drive car, I've been really impressed with the wear rate of these tires.

Grip in the summer was overall pretty good, my only complaint is that I haven't found them particularly progressive, the transition from grip to slide really quite quickly.

Compared to other tires I've used, I found these to be quite disappointing in the wet in certain situations. Wet braking and resisting aquaplaning was good, but cornering grip in wet weather was extremely snappy, even at low speed and low revs, just pulling out of a greasy junction.

If you mainly drive in the the summer this is a good tire but I wouldn't recommend for all weather use.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 76% while driving a BMW M140i F20
Driving on a combination of roads for 8000 easy going miles
The way this tire performs is exceptional. The limits of grip and adhesion are very high in all conditions. The tire is also quiet ands comfortable. However all of this seem to have come because they are made from a soft compound and they wear pretty fast. I don't drive particularly hard but at 8000 miles on the rear they are nearly on the wear bars. I will be looking to replace with something with more longevity, even if that means sacrificing some ultimate grip. The previous generation Assymetric 5 would fit the bill if I am able to source some.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 65% while driving a BMW M240i
Driving on a combination of roads for 18000 spirited miles
Bought the Pilot Sport 5 to replace half-worn Pilot Super Sports which, despite being awesome in the dry, were downright lethal in the cold and damp! These came off after about 25000 miles and still had around 5mm tread left!
PS5 First impressions were positive but I came to quickly realise that was down to the old-for-new tire swap! While I've found the PS5 to be good in the cold and wet, it understeers way too much for my liking. The rears in 245/35/18 are now approaching 2mm (after 14 months/less than 20000miles) so any day now I'll be replacing them.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 49% while driving a BMW 1 series
Driving on mostly country roads for 6000 spirited miles
These tire perform very well when they are new and when the weather is above around 10ºC. However on a cold day or when they are worn below around 4mm performance drops off a cliff. If they are worn and it is a cold damp day the car has next to no grip and is a real handful. I have rated the wear as poor as there is only around 3mm of useable tread if you value performance. Noise and comfort are good.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 94% while driving a BMW M140i
Driving on a combination of roads for 600 spirited miles
I've had these tires on a BMW M140i now for about 1000km of driving. As soon as the tires were fitted, I drove up to the high country region of Victoria, Australia, the tires have done a bunch of motorway, B road and sporty mountain driving in dry and wet conditions. They replaced Pilot Sport 4s which I had zero issues with. First impressions, the tires are much quieter/comfortable than the ones they replaced. Road imperfections, ruts, bridge expansion joints etc feel less jarring through the car. So comfort when on cruise control on the highway is better. Taking the tires up the mountains, they feel more precise and have stronger "bite" than the outgoing tires, which should be expected. Dry grip is great and wet performance is just as confidence inspiring as before. Some might feel they are a little vague but I felt they were more precise than the old tires. I think it's more a matter of the tires really needing to be pushed to find their limits, which I never did. If you have a HiPo car and don't track it, but like some great tires that don't break traction and give confidence on country roads, these are the tires for you. These will deal with anything you throw at them.

Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport rated 72% while driving a BMW 1 series
Driving on mostly country roads for 2000 spirited miles
I have these fitted to my BMW M140i the car is mapped so puts out a little more HP and TQ than stock.

Dry grip: Really good, grips well off the line and out of corners and you know where the limit is.

Wet grip: Is just okay, it's struggles with traction sometimes spinning in 5th gear (Auto) and at times you can feel the ABS kicking in under braking, it also struggles with clearing standing water a bit too. So overall not confidence inspiring in the wet. Anyone saying otherwise simply doesn't drive hard enough to tell the difference between tires.

Feedback: This tire really excels here through the steering wheel and the seat, I can tell what each corner is doing.

Comfort: Is compromised due to a stiff sidewall, but I knew that and I prefer feedback over comfort.

Wear: Too early to tell only covered 2k so far.

Conclusion: If you want a great summer tire that gives you sporty dry handling buy these. Just know that it does come at the expense of wet performance.

Bridgestone Potenza Sport rated 91% while driving a BMW M240i
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
This tire is amazing on the front axle. Grip for days, feedback is great. Fast warmup and doesn't overheat fast on a long track. Went to the Nürburgring and i'm amazed. After seeing the test, everyone concluded that this tire isn't suitable for hard abuse. Let me tell you if your car is setup right. After doing many laps on the ring, tire wear is normal. 245/35/18 is a difficult size. 100% buy again. For daily driving it's excellent. Wet grip is excellent. Couldn't wish any better. Wish they brought out the Potenza Race in this size

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 89% while driving a BMW M140i
Driving on a combination of roads for 30000 average miles
First set of tires to fit on a BMW M140i after the factory tires needed replacing. Ordinarily had the Pilot Super Sports which regularly would set off the traction control when moderately accelerating in the wet. These are a great all round tire. Very quiet on machine laid asphalt. Less so on emulsion spray and chip which is common on regional roads in Australia. I'd say the tire suits someone who has a performance car, who doesn't track it and is more looking to do GT mileage, over track days and spirited country drives on a Sunday. Amazing wear, fronts are looking near to replacement after 45000 km. Probably could get another 5000 km out of them but they are starting to show a few nicks and chips in the tread. Have done a lot of km recently on rain affected highways in SE Australia (so coarse chip roads, potholes etc)

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 47% while driving a BMW M140i
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 spirited miles
I suppose these are not a bad tire, but I don't class them as a great one either. In fact I would go as far to say that they are overrated. I find grip in the wet average, they are noisy once more than half worn and they give a hard ride. The wear rate is also very high, the rears have lasted only 5000 miles of mostly average driving with the odd blast. I will see how I get on with the replacement Goodyear Assymetric 6 that I have just had fitted, but so far they seem a huge improvement.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 92% while driving a BMW M140i
Driving on a combination of roads for 1500 average miles
Every M140i owner knows - due to the tire size we haven't got a lot of options in regards to tire choices. I originally opted for the Michelin Pilot Super Sports but these were shocking on all levels - which led me to take them off after two months. I then opted for a mixture of Goodyear F1 super sports on the front and Goodyear assymetric 6 on rear (heard rave reviews about both). They were both great having done 11k on them - the rears needed changing. This is when I changed to the Michelin PS5 - and WOW I am amazed at how good these are. They have transformed this car from sloppy handling having fear in corners to now having my foot on throttle. It is like a match made in heaven. Everything is better than the goodyears and pss i had before. I just wish I got them sooner - I was just skeptical after my trial with the pss

Avon ZV7 rated 57% while driving a BMW 1 series
Driving on a combination of roads for 3500 spirited miles
I had the Avon's fitted to my M140i AUTO RWD in the standard staggered fitment of F225/40/18 R245/35/18 XL.The car is modified running 400hp and 425lb-ft. I drive progressive and have done a Track day around Cadwell park in January so cold and wet. Also a lap around the Nurburgring which was quite warm around 25c. I will go into detail on how the tires perform bellow this is comparing them to my previous tires Michelin Super sports. Grip Dry. 6/10 Lateral grip is ok. Traction off the line is good putting all of the power down on decent tarmac in second gear. Grip wet. 6/10 Lateral grip is ok. Traction forget about it. Braking Dry. 6/10 It's quite easy to trigger the ABS, they aren't that grippy under braking. Braking Wet. 6/10 As above Feedback. 6/10 They lack communication, and also have delayed steering. However they are progressive on breakaway. Wear. The rears lasted 3,500 miles down to the bars, fronts have 6mm left. My previous tires Michelin Super sports had 12.5K from a previous owner I then clocked up a further 10k on stock power and no track. Comfort. 10 is a strong point rides the bumps well and no strange noise at speed. Buy again. No there are better tires for the same money.
