215/55 R18 Tire Review Highlights
Writing about the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy
rated 100%
Replaced on my VW ID.3 Pro (204HP) the factory Continental EcoContact 6 (215/55 R18 95T), which were honestly disappointing and danger to drive due to way to soft sides. Quite strange they weren’t XL, considering how heavy this EV is...
This is why I switched to Michelin Primacy 5 Energy 99V XL with rim protection – and the difference is huge.
Grip and stability improved a lot. The car now feels extremely confident, almost like a sporty setup (even though these aren’t Pilot Sports). Cornering is perfect. I also can comfortably carry 20 km/h more through bends and the tires just hold.
Comfort is very good, and they stay quiet on the highway. I would explain that in EVs, most of the noise comes from airflow and wind anyway, then tires – so expectations need to be adjusted a bit. For anyone new to EV driving, it feels like a mix of:
a car (because of the tires),
a plane (wind noise outside cabin),
a train (smooth, heavy, linear acceleration).
Also worth mentioning: they look really good. Clear “Michelin” branding, and the little Michelin Man with a raised hand almost feels like he’s greeting you every time you walk up to the car – small detail, but it genuinely improves my mood :)
Overall: big upgrade over OEM tires – excellent handling, stability, and still great comfort.

Tires were brand new. Part of the tread separated from the carcass at 18,000km. Is not an impact damage. Can clearly see is a separation and not a cut.

Got these to replace standard Bridgestone turanza 005A. Did 4 wheel allignment as well. Initial impressions quieter, handling is great, dry and wet during late winter in the UK and early spring, comfort better even those turanza 005a was SL and these are XL. Perfect tire, my only concern is that fuel economy dropped about 25% which I can't explain. Motorway averages 42mpg, previously it was 56. I've inflated them to what car manual says to 36psi, but manual assumes the tires are SL. Wondering maybe XL ones need higher pressure to compensate, but can't find any info about this. Also confuses me that people were saying XL is stiffer ride, in my case totally the opposite.

Replaced Goodyear vector4season gen-2 SUV. A lot better when cornering, excellent dry braking, very detailed feeling. Traveled on snowstorm with motorway covered on slush on 110-120km/h and felt very confident. Also tested on deeper snow without any problems. I don't like a little buzz noise when rolling on bad tarmac. I would like it more comfort. Overall an excellent tire -better than Goodyear- in a very good price. I think the definition "summerish all season tire" fits perfect

I fitted this tire on a new Fiat 600 hybrid, straight at car delivery, replacing the OE summer Goodyear's. I therefore have no benchmark compared to the summer OE's.
Fitted in early December, i had the chance to drive them on dry, wet and also some snow due to latest weather conditions.
the tire was superb in all levels of grip. it is also very quiet and comfortable, despite the 18 inch and (relative) low aspect ratio.
Handling is soft and with delayed response, but i attribute this more to the car overall soft suspensions and chassis settings, rather than the tire itself.
A very good tire at a fantastic price point. And apparently the press agrees with me.
Well done GT!

Car less than two years old with less than 6k miles already front tires down to 1mm above wear bads and cracking on edge of tire. The rear have 3mm left will change the four together for an different brand. Very disappointed and unsure whether a warranty claim would result in a positive outcome.

I bought these tires mainly on budget (by experience I don't believe in extra expensive tires were much better in daily use than one grade lower ones) but finally I found them to be very close or equal to a premium tire. Very good grip on dry and wet road, (there was no snow yet) and very high level of comfort. Rolling resistance is low and probably these are the lowest noise winter tires I have ever had. It's a surprise and I am completely satisfied with this purchase.

Lifetime: used for 56.000 km and remaining tread depth was about 3mm
Grip on dry and wet: no problem in general, on 186 HP and harder acceleration from standstill the tire slips a bit. In the wet same. On normal driving no problems on dry, on heavy rain.
Grip on snow: drove in heavy snowing with the road complete covered by snow and I was able to drive with 50..60 kmh. Climbed steper road covered by a bit of snow with no problem. Maneuvering in parkings where snow was about 5 cm or more with no problem.

The tires performed very well during the first year and the winter season. However, in the second season, when they had already reached 15,000 miles, driving safely in the snow became impossible. The car constantly slipped and it was impossible to climb even the slightest incline. The tires perform well in both wet and dry conditions, but in snow, they were a disaster.

I bought it in 2021 in Germany. It was written made in russia. Quality was very bad, cracks on the surface, deformation (waves on the edges, edges worn out). I don´t understand anything in the tires. My mechanic said, it´s about quality, I need to change it urgently.

Used on a VW ID3 EV much better than the original Bridgestone tires but a little less efficient 5-7% range drop.

The tire loses grip on cold, wet roads. On my rear-wheel-drive car, it tends to slide in corners, so I have to drive more carefully than usual. At lower temperatures, the rubber hardens, which reduces both grip and comfort. Because of these issues, I found the tires unsafe and decided to replace them.
On the positive side, they offer good steering response (a bit stiffer sides), are fairly quiet, and feel comfortable, but only when the temperature stays above 5 °C
