Best Performance Tires For 2025
2nd of 7 tires
  • Excellent in the dry with the shortest dry braking, good in wet braking and handling, excellent noise and comfort, good rolling resistance.
  • Average aquaplaning performance, front / rear balance not as ideal in the 18" size.
  • The Continental SportContact 7 was once again right at the front of yet another test, having huge amounts of grip in the dry, excellent comfort, and nice quick steering. In this 18" size on the Golf it wasn't quite as well balanced around the limit as I remember the 19" fitment, but even with average aquaplaning performance it's still right at the front in the overall results, so another fantastic option.

Questions and Answers for the Continental SportContact 7

Ask a question
March 21, 2022

Is this tire good for an audi rs3 sedan? if not, which one is? (except the ps4s)

This would be great on an RS3!
March 22, 2022

I am deciding between this and the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport. You praised the latter for having excellent steering response. How would you say it compares to these. For context I have an 2015 m235i RWD I drive on weekends. I like driving sideways from time to time but do not go on track days

They're fairly close, the Continental is the more rounded tire and is certainly better in the wet so if you use the car in the rain I would side with this tire.
March 30, 2022

I need a new set of tires for an R35 GTR running 660bhp. The MPS4S are tried and tested on the GTR but this tire seems to be better on paper. I have three questions: The first is what is the wear like on the SC7? Secondly, do you think the SC7 can handle the power and AWD capabilities of the GTR? Finally, what tire sizes would you recommend? (OEM 255/40/20 front and 285/35/20 rear)

The wear rate of the SC7 is as yet untested, Continental say it should be similar to the PS4S though. The tire will have no issues with the power of the GTR, and for sizes I can only recommend sticking with OE. The tire should have an advantage to the PS4S in the wet.

I am looking to upgrade my BMW star rated MPSS* on a 2021 Toyota Z4 M40I G29 (they often lose grip when not warm 100%). Initially I was thinking about the BMW star rated MPS4s* (saw your G80 M3 review), then the Sport Contact 7 came out and I’ve seen only great reviews about them. Which of these two would you recommend for best dry grip/handling with decent levels of noise/comfort? Not worried about wet caracteristics since I don’t push the car hard enough in the wet. 255/35/ZR19 front 275/35/ZR19 rear Thanks

As you won't be able to get the G80 version of the * 4S in your sizes and I've not tested the sizes you can get, the SC7 is a very safe option for excellent performance.

Just bought a GLC 43 SUV fitted with ContinenetalSport 235/55 R19 Y radial tubeless tires. It rides a little on the hard side and nationally we are limited to 120 Km/hr. What is the minimum safe tire pressure we can set them at to improve comfort?

Unfortunately we're unable to advise on tire pressures outside of stock as there are too many variations.

I’m deciding between the Continental sportcontact 7, the Goodyear eagleF1 supersport and the Pilot sport 4s which is what I currently have but I’ve run out of life in the tire, I drive a 350z 2008 and I do track events doing 3-4 15 minute sessions in a day which is fun but it can rain sometimes so need to handle the wet as well but it’s mainly driving when it’s dry I also drive it on most weekends but very much spirited driving so I need a tire that will last a long time but can handle the track and getting hot as I found on the hot day at JDM Combe on track the pilot sport 4s was getting too hot and the tire was switching off causing me to slide a lot more, what would you recommend?

That is a difficult question! The SportContact 7 is undoubtedly the best of the three in the wet on track and is very good in the dry, but I have a small concern if you're overheating the 4S you might do the same with the Conti. With this in mind I would suggest trying the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport as it has consistently been great in the dry during my testing.

Is the Continental Sport Contact 7 a run flat tire?

Continental call their runflat system SSR, so if there are runflat versions available for sale they will be marked as SportContact 7 SSR.

I currently have the Sport Contact 6 RO2 version on my Audi TTS. Are there AO/RO versions available or am I allowed to use of the shelf SC7 tires with the sane 93Y speed rating and size

I don't think Audi / Conti will re-OE for the latest generation. You definitely can use the SportContact 7 on your TTS as long as you match the correct load rating, and I'm sure you'll find it a good upgrade on the OE 6.
April 4, 2023

I currently have Pirelli P Zero on my AMG A35 which were factory fitted at the time of purchase. I have seen that the AMG A45 are now running on Michelin Polit Sport 4 S as factory fitted tires, which probably would have been my go to tire. However from watching a couple of the tests / reviews, I am trying to decide if the Continental SportContact 7 would be a better choice given the steering response and potential better wear level. What would you recommend for a A35.

In current tests the Conti SC7 is proving to be a better tire than the PS4S, however in tests we always test the aftermarket version of the tire, so if there's a MO (Mercedes) OE version of the PS4S that might suit the car better.
April 16, 2023

I currently have a FK8 with stock Sport Contact 6 (SC6) and going to replace 2 first with Sport Contact 7s (SC7) and place them at the back and move the older ones that still have tread to the front and in the next few months repeat the process until they are all SC7s, is that recommended?

Yep, that is the correct way of swapping from the SC6 to SC7 in pairs.
September 11, 2023

Hi, I own a 2022 G80 M3 Comp and am planning to swap out my Cup 2s with Continental Sport Contact 7. As the M3 wheel set up is staggered, are the Sport Contact 7 directional i.e. can I swap left to right and vice versa for the front and rear respectively?

The SC7 is an asymmetric tire so you can mount it either side, meaning you can swap the tires left to right. As you have wider rears, you can't swap them front to back.
September 13, 2023

How do these SC7 stack up for track days? They seem to be #1 on the road, but how they handle heat and a heavy car like a mustang? Compared to say a Yoko AD09 or Nankang CR-S. Would be an interesting comparison review

Not as well, but then no road focused tire does. There's a lot of variables in track endurance, but if you're on a high grip track and you can actually drive, any road bias product will struggle with the extreme heat.
December 30, 2023

I have just put Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on my 2014 RS5 and don’t like the way they have now made the front feel light and floaty. I prefer a more direct feel with the road like it was with the discontinued Bridgestones. Does anyone know how these Continentals feel ?

The SC7 is a little more direct, but the Bridgestone Potenza Sport is probably the best replacement. Just remember that a new tire will feel more floaty than a very worn on due to the much higher tread depth.
February 13, 2024

Looking at getting either these or Potenza Sport for an FK8 Type R. Only fast road and no track work. The Potenza Sport is 1.2kg heavier for my size (245/35/19) so worried that extra unsprung mass in the tire will affect acceleration and just make the car feel heavier even if outright dry pace once up to speed is similar.

I wouldn't worry about 1.2kg, I know there's a lot of discussion on it online but I don't think it has a huge effect. I will be testing this later this year to find out though!

That said, the Potenza Sport would be a great match if you don't mind a tire that wears a little quicker.
March 12, 2024

Hi, been watching lot of your reviews which help but can’t decide between a 3, I love country roads/spirited driving but also daily use. Looking at either the conti SC7, Bridgestone PS or Michelin PS5 , BMW f30 330, also what’s the wear like on the SC7. Thanks

Wear should be close to the PS4S, the PS5 will have a slight wear advantage. The SC7 is still the best all round tire.
April 30, 2024

Hi, I just switched to the Conti ContactSport 7 and noticed a slight drop in pickup power. Specs: 245/40/18 Is this normal for this Tire?

I'm not sure what you mean by pickup power, but assuming the tire size is the same as previous you should notice no difference other than improved grip and handling if you were coming from a lower rated tire.

Hello. Thanks for your reviews. They are great. I am trying to decide on new tires for my 350z, I had GY assy 5 and they gave crazy understeer to the car and they havent lasted that long either. Considering Conti Sport Contact 7. However I can only find the fronts in 225/45/R18 in 95Y while the rears 245/45/R18 are 100Y. Can I mix different load ratings? How do the SC7 wear? I am considering my alternative is Falken FK520. What do you think? Thank you!

Yes, you can mix load ratings. The SC7 should wear around the same as the Asym 5. The 350z is setup for understeer, the Conti should help a little but also more right foot might help ;)

In the area where I live its around 2°c to 7°c. Mostly hangs around the 5°c. Would you recommend these?

The SportContact 7 is a summer tire, so will not be at optimum in those temperatures, but it will be no worse than any other summer tire.
May 12, 2025

Are SportContact™ 7 good for ultra silent or ultra low noise ? Mercedes S class with 22 rims.

No, generally speaking the SC7 is not the quietest tire in its category. You can look at test results to see how it compares to its peers.

Hi, I'm looking to switch tires on 21 BMW X3 M40i, it comes with 245/40/21 and 273/35/21 RTF. I'm looking at the Continental SportContact 7, would you recommed it or have any opinions? Good or Bad option?

The SC7 is always a good choice if you're happy to move away from runflats. The other option a lot of people switch to and love is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6.

Hiya, are there any more details around the 18 inch sizings being different to their larger siblings? There seems to be a few other mentions of this around and I’m curious if this is just hearsay or not.

That is a tricky question. Yes there are likely construction differences between the 18" and 19" versions of the SportContact 7, however it is pretty common to have these differences between "smaller" and "larger" versions of the tire. There are some test results of the SC7 in 18" on the site so I would use those as a reference to see their relative performance.

I bought these tires and immediately gave me traction control issues
I tried to contact continental they told me is not their problem if I didn't bought tires without the bmw/star logo
So for them anyone who have bmw cannot use these tires and if you have issues is just my fault
Never continental again in my life

This is not the fault of Continental, this is the fault of BMW designing too little tolerance in their systems to deal with mismatched tires.
Given 99% while driving a Ford Focus (235/35 R19) on mostly country roads for 1,000 spirited miles
The best all-round tire for "racing" on public roads :). It does everything perfectly, having awesome dry grip, wet grip, braking distances, feedback, and on the other hand it is still quiet, comfy. The perfect bland. This, and the Asy6 are my Favorite tires (after trying: S1EVO2&3, P zero, Asy5, PS4, PS4S, etc) These 2 tires are both extraordinary in every aspect, but the SC7 is fine tuned for the sporty side and the Asy6 is for the comfy side(Asy6 grips superbly as well, 10/9). So! The SC7! Using ot an mk3 RS Focus. It needs a touch of warming up, (4-5corners) and then it grips like hell. It could be a tiny bit better, but that would be sem-slick territory, or a tire which starts to fall in the other aspects (comfort, wet grip, etc) Compared to the PS4S…imo it is almost impossible to tell the differences on public roads. The environment differences are bigger impacts than the tire differences. Dry grip is about the same, braking is better on SC7(insane good), wet grip is better as well, out of this world, AWD helps as well, but I can push the car just like in the dry, I still cannot believe it, how fast it is in the wet…I would say there is no "wet conditions" anymore :D . This tire is almost perfect. I would sacrifice a tiny bit wet grip for semi-slick level dry grip but still, this is THE tire for a daily sportscar. (CUP2 is unusable on random daily rushes…that is purely on track based use, or nonstop just public-racing :D )

Given 94% while driving a BMW 535d M Sport (295/30 R19) on a combination of roads for 300 spirited miles
Wow. Just wow for these tires. Imo the best "normal" tire you can put on a car. Grip in all conditions is just unbelievably good. I used to have Bridgestone Potenza Sport in 275/30/19 and they would spin in 4th gear when kickdown from 6th gear. They could not handle the torque and power. But Conti SC7 takes it like a champ! Even in wet i have no wheelspin, aquaplaning is very good. Handling can't say because i adjusted suspension for straight lines. Wear - we'll see how fast 1180nm destroys this set (e.g. Potenza lasts around 5000km - rear set). For now they have around 500-600km and mounted them in May. Comfort is subjective due to coilover suspension and comfort seats, so I have no major complaints. For now I will keep buying them for road use until something better pops up on the market.

Bought these to replace Pirelli p zeros fitted new on bmw i4 m50.definitely better dry and wet grip same noise level as Pirelli.i changed Pirelli after 9.000 miles mixture of driving expect these to last about the same staggered set up front 255 35 20 rear 285 30 20 which in my opinion accelerates wear plus weight of car I was advised these are not star rated for bmw yet they are better alround than the star rated Pirelli.

When I first fitted these tires there was a night and day difference in terms of the performance from the Pirelli PZeros and the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 that were on the car the previous two times. Graip in dry - brilliant, wet - capable, handling - precise. Wear on the front - not that great at all. I kept them on probably longer than I should have due to how much it cost me for all 4 in one hit but the fronts wore way too fast. Rears are still going but I dread to think if I was driving a Quattro how many times I would have changed them if I stuck with them. Due to wear, I think I would try something else. May be Michelins if I can find them at a good price

The Continental Sport Contact 7s replaced the OEM Pirelli P Zero PZ4, the difference in dry/wet handling/breaking and general dynamics was a night and day difference. After about 35K kilometres the Continentals SC7s are due for replacement, with a new set are going back on my vehicle. I had thought of trying the Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, or the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, but I was suitably impressed by the Continentals to give them another go.

They were good at first version.. now they are made very soft sidewalls and no more sporty driving or feedback it's more a tourism tire now.. spirited driving around canyons will last 3000km and sidewalls are gone even with 1.4 negative camber. 300km and 40% of sidewalls are already gone. Very disappointed they are not the same anymore they probably changed compound that's my 3rd set and only 1st set felt as the reviews said.

Just a little context, I have checked with Continental and there has been no upgrades or downgrades of the SportContact 7 since its initial release. If you've been pushing a TTS hard down a mountain pass that wear doesn't seem too bad either, it will clean up a little with some normal driving. If you plan on enjoying your vehicle it might be worth looking into a little more front camber so help protect the outer shoulders.
Given 61% while driving a Toyota GR86 (215/40 R18) on mostly country roads for 700 spirited miles
The biggest POS of a tire I’ve ever had, THREE out of 4 tires had some sort of dip that caused vibration, one so bad at 140kmh that I had to change a “brand new” tire, the other two I kept because it’s kind of tolerable but still pisses me off on a brand-new car. I say “brand new” because after about 1000km of country roads the guy said, “Damn how much have you driven”, I don’t think and hope they will last over 5000km. And it pisses me off because honestly it’s such a good tire on the dry, still haven’t had the chance to test it on the wet. I’ll stick to Michelin for the next set, even if the performance is worse they never fail me.
Yes if you are wondering the wheels are fine, they are brand new after all.

Great Tire but only lasted 7.000 km to completely bald.(5000 km to 1.6mm)
Tire wear is horrible.
Just did a 1500km trip on motorway, starting at 1.6mm and finishing bald.
Grip is not worth the wear in my opinion.
Great on track, both withholding temperature and grip.

An excellent tire! - Originally had CSC6 on the rear and Hankook ion EVO AS tires on the front. The car feels a lot more agile now. The grip in the dry is phenomenal and is just as good in the wet. They give you a lot of confidence on the road. Will definitely buy again.

I've found that above 37-38 psi in very cold weather (around 0-4C) the tires were prone to sudden understeer in wet/greasy conditions (they were set to 39-40 after a service before I lowered them again to 36 for the rest of the winter. The sticker recommendation is 38). Aside from that niche case, at temperatures where really you need winters to be fair, I am extremely happy with these. Amazing grip and very good balanced handling on a mk7.5 GTI, the car is lovely under and at the limit with them. They do wear slightly faster than the Michelin Pilot sport 5 I had before on this FWD car but nothing alarming.
