175/65 15 Tire Review Highlights

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 rated 79% while driving a MINI Cooper
Driving on mostly country roads for 2000 average miles
Have used the original Vector 4, the Gen 2 and now these Gen 3's on various cars over the years, and they have always been very good in the cold and wet. However, these Gen 3 are probably the best yet when it gets warm and dry, with improved breaking in these conditions.
Unfortunately though they don't seem to suit our current Mini F56 hatch, due to the persistent and noticeable tire roar. Not sure if its down to our current model of car, or the new design of the Gen 3, but they are certainly nosier than the previous Vector 4 tread patterns, which I've used on other small sized cars with similar sized tires.

Bridgestone Turanza ER300 rated 32% while driving a Honda
Driving on mostly town for 10 easy going miles
Honda fitted the Turanza ER370 to the Jazz in 2019. This was a brand new car, lady driven extremely lightly, now only 17k km on the clock, and at least 2 tires are warn and replaceable - biggest disgrace possible and never again a Brigestone tire in my yard. I cant wait for the replacement. Chose Dunlop SP Sport 560 92H (found to be 6th best out of 146 tire makes and versions compared) after most satisfied with Dunlop tires on my ML Mercedes and new Fortuner.

GT Radial 4Seasons rated 82% while driving a MINI
Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 average miles
Have put these tires on 3 different cars now and accumulated a lot of miles between them. I now won't buy anything else. I have been sold on the concept of all-season tires for a while (they have got me out of trouble on more than one occasion) and had previously worked my way through a set of Bridgestones (Weather control) Continentals (All season contact) and the obligatory Michelin Cross-Climates. These GT Radials are every bit as good as any of those three but far cheaper. The Michelins, in particular, are crazy expensive for what you get in my opinon. In fact, the GTs are particularly good value when you bear in mind how long they last. No kidding, you will still have plenty of tread left after 30,000 miles. The others lasted 20/25,000 at best before the grip dropped off dramatically. They are also quiet (for an all-season tire) and very smooth/comfortable. I don't drive like an idiot but they provide all the feedback and wet/dry handling and braking that I could ever need. Probably not the very best in snow but (of course) far, far better than normal summer tires and proved to be excellent in the very icy conditions we had last year. On a wet motorway they inspire huge confidence and track dead straight. If you are buying four (and you should do so if possible) then it's a big saving over the "premium" tires. They take a few hundred miles to wear in but once they do you will be amazed how grippy they are in all conditions. Highly recommended.

Kormoran Road Performance rated 64% while driving a Honda Insight Hybrid Gen 2
Driving on mostly motorways for 500 easy going miles
Fitted two of these on the front in a hurry because they were cheap. Nothing wrong with the grip under most conditions, but they seemed agricultural compared with my previous Toyos and the ride was harsh. They were also very noisy, which got tiring and I was almost pleased when I got a puncture in one and was able to replace both with Khumos, which are superior in every way.

Kumho Ecowing ES01 KH27 rated 84% while driving a Honda Insight Hybrid Gen 2
Driving on mostly motorways for 509 average miles
Much quieter and smoother than previous Riken tires and with a more comfortable ride. Quieter, too. Perfectly adequate in the wet under normal driving conditions. Noticeably better fuel consumption. Would recommend.

Dunlop StreetResponse 2 rated 89% while driving a Toyota Yaris
Driving on a combination of roads for 28000 average miles
Tires were installed on 01/2018, made in Thailand. I park my car in the basement, so no direct sunlight. For the first two years I accumulated around 20k km and swapped front/back. After that covid hit and now 07/2023 the tires have accumulated 45k. These tires excel at handling and road feedback, feel very sharp up to now. The unique advantage that have compared to other premium brands I drove, is that wear comes gradually and you never feel that the rubber becomes stiff throughout the years. Also during summer, car is driven in gravel roads with some nasty rocks and these tires have really good walls. Perfect in breaking on dry conditions, almost perfect in wet (the most predictable tires that I have driven). As a disadvantage I would say the road noise is high now but, it is expected after so many Km and rough usage from time to time.

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 86% while driving a Toyota iq
Driving on mostly town for 30000 easy going miles
Nice tires, very nice rolling and very low fuel consuption. The handling is descent, the grip is good on dry road, ok on the wet (much better than the previous michelin energy savers). 40K klms and still have so much rubber to wear. Light car and smooth driving is probably the reason, but they look like new to me

Pirelli CINTURATO P6 rated 95% while driving a Honda City 1.5 VTI
Driving on mostly town for 500 average miles
I only used michelin before on my Honda city but this time 15 inches michelin were not available..... So went for the pirelli p6 thinking it to be the next best thing and boy I was proved right... They are excellent tires in all the parameters but noise.... How can any tire produce so much noise.... Comfort drastically improved Handling improved Control improved Mileage might have gone down but not sure Overall very much satisfied The second best after michelin in my opinion

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 36% while driving a Fiat Panda 4 x4
Driving on a combination of roads for 400 easy going miles
I’ll start by saying that these tires are probably amongst the worst tires I have experienced on any car I have purchased over the past twenty years or so. Perhaps I’m being unduly harsh on the tire and should in fact aim my disappointment at the car manufacturers for choosing the EcoContact 6 tire as a suitable ‘year-round’ original-equipment fitment for a north European market. As a pure ‘summer-use only’ tire it’ll undoubtedly work well enough, despite the meagre 6mm of tread depth from new, which limits its potential lifespan. My first experience with Continental tires was with the EcoContact 4, as fitted to my then-new Fiat Panda Cross three years ago. As I took delivery of the car during the summer I had to wait until the winter to discover how unsuited those tires were to northern European winters. At low air temperatures the tires became very noisy, felt ‘wooden’ and ‘nervous’, and their grip on icy and snow covered tarmac was abysmal. After that first winter I changed to a set of Nokian Weatherproof All-Seasons tires…and what a transformation. Now, just a few weeks ago, I took delivery of a new Fiat Panda Wild 4x4. My heart sank when I discovered it was equipped with the latest EcoContact 6 tires. Again, these are pure ‘summer’ tires. Thankfully I missed the worst of the winter weather, yet even so, on cold damp tarmac the EcoContact 6 tires lack grip and composure and they don’t instil any confidence. But at least I will have many months to consider suitable replacements before next winter. And one final observation regarding EcoContact tires… Why are the tire sidewalls - even from new - all lumpy and uneven, giving the impression that they are damaged. Why?

Michelin Primacy 4 rated 65% while driving a Suzuki Swift
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 spirited miles
Driven a total of 1000 km in mild winter, the main thing coming from the previous kleber tires are the road noise, significantly less, and general confort, which somehow feels softer overall. The dry and wet feel overall better, but aquaplaning is surprisingly not great on these tires, with slight skips sideways (tiny really, but perceptable in the wet Brittany weather), which, while better than the klebers, was not a big improvement as I had hoped. The road feedback is better than the klebers, still slightly Meh, but fine overall for city, country roads and some highway use. Have to see if these tires wear out slower than the klebers though.

Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO rated 71% while driving a Toyota Yaris
Driving on mostly town for 3000 average miles
Living quite high up in Central Scotland, we need tires that can safely transport our children in snow and ice. However, while we will always get some days with inclement weather, the majority of days are dominated dry or wet conditions. Having done a lot of homework I went against the grain and plumped for Bridgestone A005 Weather Control Evo over Michelin CrossClimates, willing to accept less snow performance for improved dry and wet ability. My thinking for this was that if the weather was too bad for even an allseason tire, then it was probably too dangerous to venture out at all - we drive a Yaris, not a Defender.

The tires was bolted on September 2021, replacing a set of Dunlop SP Sports. In comparison, the car felt soft and bouncy to the old summer tires, but as the weeks progressed and temperatures dropped you could feel the tire come alive and adapting. The best thing I could say is that in cold conditions it feels perfectly normal - like a summer tire in summer.

In dry and wet conditions the car feels planted and safe, and while handling is definitely not as sharp as a summer tire, this isn’t the reason why you buy these tires. Doing mostly town driving I have noticed a small hit on fuel, probably 5% or so over the old Dunlops, but again, it’s a price I’m willing to pay for safety in winter. On long journeys, which we do occasionally, noise is similar to a summer tire and the car is comfortable and predictable, though maybe a bit pillowy at higher speeds.

Which brings me to snow and ice performance. As I write, we have just completed some short but perilous journeys up and down some particularly steep hills. I know snow performance is meant to be the Achilles heel of this tire, but compared to a summer tire it is phenomenal. As cars all around us got stuck and parked up, our Yaris kept sailing on. We passed an assortment of family hatches and SUVs as we made our way about town, with good feedback at all times from the front wheels. There is no shortage of grip while accelerating or cornering, while braking is predictable and safe, even going downhill. It’s like a little mountain goat.

While reviews say that other allseason tires improve upon the Bridgestone in cold weather , I’m very pleased with the performance. Through two winters we have never been stuck or struggled to get home or to collect our children in weather that can hit quickly and make driving conditions treacherous. I’ve not driven on Michelin CrossClimates or other brands, but can’t imagine being any more impressed than I am with the A005. Again, given where we live and the geography we drive on, if we needed more snow and ice performance then a full winter would probably be more appropriate.

Wear rate has also been mentioned and while I have noticed some wear on the outside edges on the front pair, I’m not unduly worried and would easily expect another two or three years of driving.

Overall, I’m really impressed and while I would be intrigued to try another brand, having peak dry and wet performance for most of the year, with the fallback of decent snow performance when we need it, means I’m very happy with choosing the Bridgestones. It’s a great all-rounder.
