255/35 20 Tire Review Highlights

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 rated 61% while driving a Audi A6
Driving on mostly country roads for 23000 spirited miles
This is a follow-up review to the previous latest review of these tires on the Audi A6 quattro with 22-23k miles to add on things I failed to mention. I have recently switched to the CrossClimate2 due to end of life of the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 with about 23k spirited miles.
-Dry Grip: I understeered more than I oversteered, in fact I never recall ever oversteering when quickly accelerating and turning or cornering at high speeds I would give a 9/10. Never had issues with braking, always stopped quickly when needed would give it an 8.5/10.
-Wet Grip: With fully wet roads pouring down rain, I always felt in control. Going around corners at high speeds 60+ mph, I felt the car lean into the corner and understeered through it no issues, 9/10. Wet and Dry performance was pretty similar for me in handling as well as braking, 9/10.
-Wear: Do not buy if you don't want to change out tires often, albeit it depends how much you drive of course. These lasted me 22k-23k miles, were very smooth, and were very loud, 3/10. Dry and wet traction did deteriorate, but not very drastic. I rotated tires every 5k miles and did alignments at 10k miles.
-Comfort: While I do not have too much of experience with different tires in comfort, these seemed alright enough. Not harsh ride, not loud.
-Snow Grip: Last snow season I had, about maybe 18k miles on the tire, it was adequate enough to get me to point a to b. I had a combination of oversteer and understeer, but primarily understeered more, the bad kind on fully covered roads with sometimes slush. When making 90 degree turns, I often understeered and kept going straight more than turning into the corner. I'm unable to turn off traction fully on my car which doesn't help sometimes, only 1 layer of TC of the 3. Sometimes it would oversteer when turning, which was actually more controllable than the understeer in more cases than not. Though, it was pretty predictable and took a little bit to regain traction at times. Going in straight lines, you will get pulled into the shoulder of the road if you're not careful. I can handle high speeds going straight in fully covered highway of light snow, about 60-70mph, your mileage will vary a lot though. Snow handling is about a 5/10 for me. Braking was fine, always practice earlier braking and give people enough space and you should be good, 6.5/10.
-Ice Grip: Finally, the only ice I was able to encounter was black ice. Braking was around a 5/10. Driving through it in a straight line on a highway around 50-60mph, it was a wavy ride, it wanted to slip out but didn't. I had confidence, however, that I would not slip out. Don't recommend it of course, I'm a crazy driver.

Tomket Sport Series 1 rated 94% while driving a Jaguar XF S
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
The Tomket tires rated B & C @ £55 each replaced Pirelli's at £200 each, they are quieter, provide better ride comfort and handling. The grip is as good as Pirelli tires and for a budget tire they're tremendous value for money.

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 rated 68% while driving a Audi A6
Driving on mostly country roads for 23000 spirited miles
Dry grip was great, I could often push the limits of my car with no issues. Wet grip seemed very similar to the dry grip. Tires had a little noise but it's not bad. The wear isn't that great, I have about 22k-23k miles on the tires and they look smooth. Probably 5k-10k miles left in them. Deep snow wasn't that great, took a minute for me to get out of a situation I purposefully put myself in, probably about 5in of snow. Light snow was better, I pushed my vehicle to the limits on the highway with a fully covered road, about 67mph. It wanted to slip out but my traction control didn't let it and kept straight the whole way. If you lose control like I purposefully did on a fully covered snow road, I was able to recover fine, took about 10s to with my car pointing about 2oclock left and right. For winter, I firmly recommend a better tire, like a winter tire. For every season, an all weather tire. I wouldn't buy these again due to the snow and abysmal treadlife.

Continental SportContact 7 rated 84% while driving a Peugeot 1.2 puretech 75 hp
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
The tire perform very well under braking. Cornering feels shape and aggressive. Lots of feedback in the steering really let's you find that edge. Downside - very hard and noisy. Not a tire that likes to sit on the motorway, loves a fast twisty A road. High recommended and will buy again.

Firemax FM601 rated 49% while driving a BMW 535xd
Driving on track for 0 easy going miles
Tires worn to legal minimum limit in less than 10 000 km.
I'v been using Chinese tires before. For example Triangle ones (drove 3 seasons, then sold the car and probably new owners is still using those).
But Firemax - never again.

Uniroyal RainSport 5 rated 80% while driving a Jaguar XF
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 spirited miles
A quality tire that sits in the mid range bracket although not as cheap as other mid range competitors. Overall a very good tire in most areas but where it excels is in its resistance to aqua planning, it will not lose grip even when faced with large pools of water on a motorway. Would highly recommend as an alternative to some of the pricier brands!

Powertrac CityRacing rated 60% while driving a Volkswagen Transporter
Driving on for 7000 easy going miles
Fitted 4 of these to my VW Caravelle. I needed a load rating of at least 101. These were 102’s so no problem. All was well for about 6k miles and then very similar to another review on same vehicle type, started to get a vibration similar to unbalanced wheel. Very difficult to see when fitted but inner side wall just full of bubbles. 3 of the 4 tires went like this. Would not recommend for VW Transporter based on my experience

Hankook Ventus S1 Evo Z K129 rated 80% while driving a SEAT Cupra Formentor 2022
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
Great grip and feeling in the dry, decent grip in the wet, absolutely no grip when it's cold but that's expected.
The wear is not great, they don't last much but until they do, they are fun.

Uniroyal RainSport 5 rated 76% while driving a Jaguar XF S
Driving on a combination of roads for 16 spirited miles
Had these on my XF Sportbrake for 16,000 miles now with still plenty of tread depth left. Not quite as good as Pilot sports, contisports and F1s for dry road performance, but not by much. Where they excel is in the wet where they are just superb with very little aqua planning at speed, just amazing! They are a nice looking tire as well with an aggressive sidewall style. They won’t give you the longevity of a Michelin or Goodyear tire but they are a very good cheaper alternative to the higher cost premium brands.

Vredestein Ultrac Pro rated 91% while driving a Jaguar XF
Driving on a combination of roads for 1300 average miles
I was looking for Driving dynamics of CSportContact 7 but with longer lasting lifespan ( 240 on CSC7 compared to 320 on Ultrac Pro) and comfort over road imperfections. So, even after putting them I felt - soft & sporty feel although not too sporty - just enough. We understand that it was designed to fit the middle ground of everything, security, comfort & life span.

The only thing I wish for - the increase rim protection. On my 20's inch the rim protection is smaller on the outside than on the inside of the alloy. But at least it's at a minimum.

I pump them to 2.5 bar on R20.

Pirelli P Zero rated 86% while driving a Volvo 2.0 T5 Saloon
Driving on mostly motorways for 1000 average miles
Previously had Bridgestone run-flat tires. Very hard ride with the 255/35/20 tire's.
Fitted four new Pirelli P Zero and what a huge difference!
So much quieter and softer ride. psi was the same as the Bridgestone tires, but obviously the ridged walls of the run-flat tires affects both the noise and the smoothness of the ride.
I will not be buying run-flat tires again; not only that, but I had considerable difficulty in finding a place where they could repair a puncture.
P Zero from now on!
Smooth, quiet and reasonable price for a premium tire manufacturer.
I expect around 50,000miles from the P-Zero tire's, had them before the Bridgestone's , but was unaware of the outrageous hard ride and unacceptable noise before I purchased them.
Well, I've rambled on enough, Pirelli's for me, they're quiet you see. They glide around town, they deserve a crown
