Writing about the Rockstone Radial F105 given 21% (235-45-17-W)
Driving on mostly country roads for 1000 average miles
The character of my car has completely changed since fitting these tires. Previously quiet and controllable to noisy and unpredictable. Rockstone is an apt name for them. They feel rock hard and it's like driving on stones. They must be bad for me to write a review. These tires should not be sold.
I inherited a set of alloys with these tires fitted, my previous tires having been Falkens. Dry grip is soso with a tendency to slip on manhole covers expansion joints on bridges etc. The grip in the wet is atrocious bordering on downright dangerous, and coupled with the banging and crashing noises that are transmitted through to the cabin I seriously thought that all the suspension and steering linkages were loose. I have zero confidence in these tires in the wet and will be replacing them as soon as possible. At 50mph on damp country roads they will oversteer on corners and step out on white lines. I am 58 and have driven a huge variety of car tire combinations. 'My 1955 land-rover series 1 with crossply tires has better grip. I drive a BMW e39 525dse.

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Run Flat given 60% (225-45-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 40000 average miles
This is now second set of Potenza tires on BMW 325D Auto. First set only lasted 20K miles and looks like second set will last about 25K miles (20K at present) Problem is outer edge wear which seems to be common on Run Flat. On second set tried more than normal recommended tire pressure in the tires to try and compensate for outer edge wear with slight improvement. Maybe the problem is due to the firmer wall characteristics of run flat. Both outer edge and inner edge of each tire evenly wear more than the middle suggesting under inflation. Main mileage is mixed but non aggressive (having now retired) and usually only lightly loaded. Pressures regularly checked and on second set adjusted for approx 75% maximum load to try and compensate for outer wear.

Writing about the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta given 91% (245-40-18-)
Driving on mostly town for 1000 average miles
Having bought a used BMW525d with Pirrelli run flats I was at the point of selling the car due to the awful comfort/ride experience. The Vredesteins have made a HUGE difference to the ride experience. Only issue is that I have no spare only a can to trust if I get a blowout. BMW should be hugely embarrassed by this, as I would never buy a new BMW with Run flats.

Driving on a combination of roads for 30 average miles
I've had these tires on my 2003 BMW 330 diesel touring for the last 28 months and I think they are a really good tire for the money (I paid £230 for 4 tires including fitting etc)
My father was convinced I would be killed within a week but after doing over 30,000 miles in them I am still here to tell the tale. The rear tires now need replacing but the fronts still have around 3mm of tread left on them which is pretty good after all those miles (my car is rear wheel drive). "Yes" they grip better in the dry than in the wet but so would a £800 set of tires.
In my opinion as long as you don't drive like a muppet these tires will do the job like any other.
For all those who has problems with these tires may I suggest you either get some more driving lessons or buy a proper car like mine!!

Writing about the Pirelli Sottozero Serie II given 87% (205-55-16-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 1500 average miles
Fitted in December and transforms car from sit in the drive vehicle during snow to one which can be driven on any road. In snow grip, steering and braking are totally transformed and car feels safe and sure footed.
These tires are comfortable with no appreciable increase in road noise over summer continentals. In summary I was a bit sceptical about merits and cost of winter tires but have been totally won over, especially for Rear wheel Drive vehicles.

Driving on a combination of roads for 600 easy going miles
I had 4 Continental Eco Contact 3 tires fitted to my BMW 118D hatch and in decembers really bad snow conditions my car was stuck on the drive and I couldnt get out the street for 4 days. once the snow cleared i went to kwik-fit and fitted 4 of these babies for £383. I believe this is best decision I`ve made this year certainly better than swaping the BMW for a 4x4.
The BMW acts like a snow plough now, it tackles the snow effortlessly, like the snow isnt even there. It boosts your confidence in driving in these conditions and with the BMW being rear wheel drive they have a profound effect on the cars stability, basically its glued to the road, unlike before.

If you own a BMW get these tires now, you will be amazed at the improvement,
I will never own another car without having winter tires on stand-by, I`m a total convert to this safety improvement. hopefully the scottish parliment will make it a manatory requirement to have winter tires fitted to all vehicles in he winter months that way everybody will be able travel safely on the snow/ice covered roads.

Writing about the Nokian WRG2 given 90% (225-45-17-V)
Driving on mostly town for 500 average miles
Last winter joined the ranks of 'joke' BMW drivers struggling with snow and sliding into the nearest gutter, before giving up and leaving the car under a pile of snow for a couple of weeks. Resolved to get some winter wheels fitted with Nokian WRG2s - which to be honest were one of the few options available in runflat this year (Vredstein decided not to make any Wintrac Xtreme runflats). These arrived and I swapped over just over a week before current snow.
What a revelation! Driving steadily is now drama-free, no wheel spin, the occasional flicker of the stability control - though to be honest less that with moderate acceleration in dry conditions. In short car is now dependable and used to ferry colleagues stranded with front wheel drive, and was even getting better grip than the Audi Q7 in front of me yesterday. Also worth remembering that it is not all about traction - braking is greatly superior and is worth remembering in traffic to avoid rear end collisions.
In terms of getting about the tires meet all my expectations, however the bonus is that Rear Wheel Drive + snow + excellent grip - stability control = fun!! Now seeking out untreated roads and hoping snow lasts a little longer...

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A given 97% (245-35-19-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 13000 spirited miles
I highly rate these tires as the grip is excellent in all conditions bar snow and ice. Corner really well and are a very comfortable tire even for the 35 profile. They are awesome in the dry and you can really throw the car in and out of bends with confidence and in the wet they are very good too however I have had a few scary moments but that may have something to do with my over eager right foot rather then the tire.

Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 average miles
Don't bother with these, once worn down a bit all the good points disappear as fast as your your back end will do in the rain if you try to hard on these tires.
Don't worry it won't take you long to wear these out I got less then 3000 on the rears I could eventually see the wear week by week. I think even a pro banger racer would think twice about fitting these new for the world final, go for a good remould instead !!!!
