Audi A4 2.0 TDi 170 S Line Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Nankang Noble Sport NS20 given 73% (255-35-19-)
Driving on mostly town for 150 average miles
Bought these as a higher end budget/low mid range tire. Paid £220 fitted for a pair. I’m coming from a set of Hankooks which lasted me around 5 years and went with the Nankangs this time as I’m sure this is roughly what I paid for the Hankooks back in 2018. Hankooks now up to £150+ so time to try something different.

Only been on the car around a months and my initial thoughts are it’s a decent tire.

Road noise is slightly greater than the Hankooks, however I would add that the old tires were on the limit. I assume any new tire with full tread will make slightly more noise than an almost bald tire?

I did also notice that the tire itself, despite being the same 255 width as the Hankooks, is slightly narrower, leaving the rim marginally more exposed and offering less protection. Shouldn’t be a big deal, but time will tell if this leads to more stone chips on the wheels which were recently powder coated.

Grip in the dry absolutely fine. No noticeable difference in wet grip between these and the Hankooks. In the first week of having these fitted we had freezing conditions and I never had any shakey moments. I’ll add that in’s a sensible driver with the odd spirited burst when situation/conditions allow.

I think for a daily driver on normal roads, this tire will serve you absolutely fine. Drive to the conditions and I don’t see you finding a ditch any time soon, certainly not because of the tires.

I only do around 4/5 thousand miles a year so I’ll be hoping to see between 4 and 5 years out of these but time will tell.

Driving on mostly country roads for 8000 average miles
Its a terrible tire but its cheap. The tire overall has poor feedback, sub standard grip in the dry and poor grip in the wet. There is sufficient squeaking to alert you when your near the limit but I haven't pushed it much further. When the tire is under load you will feel the sidewall deform and squidge. It wears incredibly poorly and has lasted me 9,000 miles of mostly motorway and b road driving. The tire is soft, comfortable and quiet on the motorway. I thank the previous dealer for fitting such poor tires and making me appreciate quality tires.

Good as a replacement for real winter tires in normal European climates. No contender against real summer tires in dry&wet handling characteristics. Would buy them again, but not as an all-season tire, only driving them in the winter.

Driving on mostly town for 7500 easy going miles
I had replaces all 4 tires (Pirelli Cinturato p7) of my Audi A4 its been a year and few month as this was the preferred tire from Audi Bangalore Service centre. All 4 tires have bulges on side wall, one tire even got bulge of size "chicken egg" . Its only driver for 12K kilometre in bangalore City only. After the new tire change I mostly always go with my wife and kid who dont allow me to drive beyond a 100kmph or speeding, No long journey just a city rides only with that it got so much worse un-usable .

Had these on my new Audi A4 - only a 2L TDI FWD, but replaced front set after 14000 miles. 11000 miles later with some Pirelli P-Zeros and the same! Still have the original set of Continentals on the rear, though these need replacing asap!

I switched to these tires after purchasing an audi a4 black edition. The car originally came with cheap jinju tires which where awful! Spinning in the wet. Under steering in the wet and abs kicking in on the motorway. These tires are night and day difference. I have never had any issues with under steering. They brake very well in the wet and dry. I have full confidence in these tires after experiencing the quality at the other end of the spectrum. They are slightly noisy but that is a small gripe for the sure footed stability they provide. I will be purchasing again.

Driving on a combination of roads for 30 spirited miles
Loads of grip in the wet and dry I've never been able to loose traction on these tires until they're worn out. Aquaplaning is something of the past with these tires. They're a bit noisy and car be a bit rough on back roads especially in the South of Ireland where the council can't be bothered to fix any road that isn't a Motor-way to Dublin. The tires are also very predictable, they handle extremely well to the point you can make it around the harshest of turns on a main road at at least 80mph without breaking a sweat. My front tires were baldy after 9 months which is pretty good considering I do roughly 40,000 miles a year and I have a pretty heavy foot. Id recommend these tires to anyone who enjoys driving a bit over the speed limit and doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg for good performance tires. They truly are the best budget performance tire that'll still beat expensive performance tires.

Driving on a combination of roads for 8567 spirited miles
The Continental Sport Contact 5 is a good all round performance tire that offeres good levels of dry and wet grip properties, whilst still delivering reasonable mileage and a good level of low rolling resistance for a large UHP performance tire,

It's primary ride is quite harsh but the chassis helps to control and damp this well. The steering feel is responsive from very low steering input and response is quite linier and easy to control

Damping on the rear is good, tires slightly noisy on very course road surfaces

Good all round balance
