bmw 335i Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Run Flat given 50% (225-40-18)
Driving on mostly motorways for 0 easy going miles
I don't think I'm qualified to give dry, wet, and in general, handling characteristics as this is my first performance tire. I will mention that during heavier rainfall, I did have a few worrying moments of aquaplaning within the speed limit, however, this was during our stormier and wetter seasons. Generally, the tire does feel grippy on dry and wet roads but I wouldn't say that it is confidence inspiring. Wear can be a little bit weird for sportier drivers. I do find that the outer tread does seem to wear much quicker but weirdly I only experienced it on the front right side. I did take my car in to have the tires inspected and they weren't able to deduce exactly why except from a possible misalignment. Is that the fault of the tire? Possibly not, however, seeing reviews on this did not make me feel confident about the general wear characteristics.

Is the tire comfortable? You do get a lot of noise in the cabin and that is likely due to the tires being runflat. Having changed to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, the road noise is almost non-existant even on the roughest of new roads being paved with rocks everywhere. Where it is a stiffer tire, any bumps you encounter will not feel great at all and will leave you worrying about the state of your wheel. I will give the tire a big plus on that there is a sidewall that portrudes a fair distance from the rim which protects it. Luckily, I have never kerbed the car and knock on wood, I will never.

In terms of whether or not I would buy it again, I would probably say no. The price is high, it compromises comfort for the ability to run flat for x amount of miles, and I don't think it is a tire I will stick with if I and many others have had some unusual wear. It is a good tire nonetheless and if you need the runflat then I would definitely choose this. These were fitted on my BMW 335i 2011 (E92) and the rears were newer than the front and I only recently purchased the car so I cannot tell you how many miles these had been on for. I already had in mind that I wanted to change from runflat to non-runflat so my view may be biased. I do think for drivers who do take it easy and want the peace of mind, this tire is good and does everything that you need.

These tires, though old, were hopeless on lightly wet cold (freezing point) salted tarmac.

Quite pricey tires, yet very grippy and also confortable once you let a few psi out of them.

Had these tures fitted to my e92 335i rwd in a staggered setup (225/45 r17 F and 255/40 R17 R). Bought the car used with these tires in Germany. They felt very crashy over road imperfections and the grip was not that good.

Same as some of the other comments. Fitted a pair on the back of my 335i as opposed to Run Flats and they were immediately unnerving at higher speeds (+75) on the motorway. The back snakes around. On damp or wet roads the back will step out on a roundabout if too much gas is applied. Considering another tire after only 1000 miles on these.

A lot more comfortable than the regular Michelin pilot 4S. Very comfortable over rough roads for the type of tire that it is. 2015 335 xDrive with M adaptive suspension. Very progressive tire, feels very natural at the limit. No twitchy break away at the limit unlike the 4S. Though the 4S star spec(BMW spec) is softer and just as comfortable but at what cost.

I brought a second hand BMW 335i with new PSS * at all corners.
225/40 R18 & 255/35 R18
Dry handling is very good, good grip and even better once up to temperature.
Wet handling, is a no. Traction control kicks-in too often, understeer is never far either. And I nearly lost the rear once in a normal curve at normal speed, the ESP saved me.
Aquaplaning seams to arrive fast as well.
Wear is good, I'm not an aggressive driver. Front tires are still very fine. Rear have maybe 35% left after 40000km.
For the Noise, I have nothing to compare with. Same for comfort. But my winter tires are more comfy (Gislaved Eurofrost).
I'll choose something different next time as in Belgium we have quite some rainy days.

Really good tires . Dry grip is the best I experienced on the road tire. Very progressive when losing grip. The car is very stable on high speed corners. Incredible wet grip. Nice comfort for performance tire. I've been driving them since 2500km. and I'm very happy. 225/40/19 front and 255/35/19 rear.

I have only 145 miles on these tires but I had comfort while driving and road noise was little to none.I pushed them to triple digits in the dry and wet and they felt solid.Other than a slight vibration which I suspect wheel balancing could be better, but the tires are decent for the price.

Driving on mostly country roads for 10000 spirited miles
I use these as my winter tires on my E92 BMW Alpina B3S Allrad which is based on the 335ix They are quite a brilliant tire that reassure me on and through the the worst of winter conditions. I have driven my car across The Alps and other mountain ranges during quite bleak blizzard conditions with these tires on and they simply don’t put a foot wrong. Although it’s not compulsory and there’s no legal obligation upon me to use winter tires on my car where I currently reside, I am convinced that every car, even those with 4WD or AWD should change to winter tires when the temperature drops to +7C or below. Just talk to my friend who recently put his 4WD BMW X5 through a ditch after it slid on ice, after swearing to me that very day that he didn’t need winter tires as all four of the wheels on his X5 are driven. He now uses winter tires….. Now, the Alpin 5 tires are very supple and provide me with all that I want or need for winter driving. Good under braking and accelerating, good on turning and direction changes and quite simply excellent on even the heaviest of snow covered navigable roads.
