Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport
WatchThe Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport is a premium summer ultra-high-performance SUV tire that feels most at home on dry roads, where it typically delivers stable handling and reassuring braking. Across driver feedback and professional testing, its biggest appeal is a secure, steady character in normal use, with many owners also reporting strong tread life. However, both sources point to clear compromises in wet conditions, where confidence can drop-particularly in heavier rain, colder wet weather and aquaplaning scenarios. Refinement is another mixed area, with road noise and a less precise steering feel regularly mentioned.

Review Summary
Based on 78 user reviews
Driver feedback on the Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport is mixed, with many higher-scoring reviews praising stable, secure dry-road manners and generally dependable wet grip when driven sensibly. A frequent standout among satisfied owners is tread life, with several reporting strong mileage and consistent behavior over the tire's life. However, a sizable group report high road noise and a less precise/comfort-oriented feel (tramlining, understeer, harshness), and wet-weather confidence is a recurring complaint for some-particularly aquaplaning and reduced grip in colder/wetter conditions. Wear experiences appear inconsistent: some achieve excellent longevity while others report rapid or uneven wear (often on shoulders/edges).
Strengths
- Long tread life for many drivers
- Good dry grip and stable on-road handling
- Generally secure wet braking/traction when not pushed
- Comfortable/pliant ride on some vehicles (suv touring feel)
Areas for Improvement
- Noticeable road noise (often increases on coarse surfaces or with wear)
- Wet-weather confidence issues for a significant group (aquaplaning/low grip in wet or cold wet)
- Imprecise steering feel/tramlining/understeer reported by many
- Mixed wear consistency: reports of rapid or uneven shoulder/edge wear

This is one dull tire.
I have driven another, but modern, European style allseason tire, Continental AllSeasonContact 2 and it such a different experience. CrosClimate 2 feels like a good touring tire in both wet and dry, with okish usability in mild snow, Dueler H/P is anything but.
In the dry, with road temperatures over 7 degrees:
- It slips under acceleration and easily overwhelmed, especially is some steering angle is applied.
- Braking distance is good.
- The tire is soft and absorbs bumps easily.
- Handling is slow and inert, with the tire feeling like it is bending in the sidewall, before transferring the input to the ground.
In the wet, with temperatures over 7 degrees, it actually behaves the best. Since you are not pushing for the handling, great braking distances and limited slip makes them feel planted.
In the dry, but below 7 degrees and up to the negative temperatures, the tire behaves ok and comfortable with soft sidewalls contributing to plush ride.
In the wet, below 7 degrees and in the negative, the tire slips under acceleration quite easily and brakes traction, but brakes decently.
In the snow, the tire is totally hopeless.
Bridgestone advertises it with slogans like "Spruce up your sports truck or SUV with the high-performance Dueler H/P Sports AS tires. Engineered to give you the confidence to perform on wet and dry surfaces as well as handle changing conditions with ease", but in all honesty, this feels like a tire from a bygone era, where all year tires were the norm.
Would not recommend even as a summer tire, let alone as a winter one.
If you are after an AllSeason tire, chose something European, like CrossClimate or similar.
I was a bit sceptical when I discovered MOE was Mercedes run flat system, I expected the car be harsh over bumps and skip on bumpy corners like my previous experience with BMW E90 Bridgestone run flats but was pleasantly surprised.
On the French motorways to the south of France, I found the car very stable and easy to place at speed (up to 80 mph officer). I have on occasions pushed the tires and found them predictable wet and dry but never tried them on snow.
After driving 40000 mainly relax miles (it’s not a sports car) on the tires I replaced the whole set with the same. Bit more expensive but the tire are well matched to the car, even tire wear and no tramlining even when worn to 2.0 mm, consistent behaviour over the life of the tire. No experience a puncture on these tires, so cannot comment on flat running. The tire rim saver does not prevent damage, even with the lightest accidental touch of the kerb.
Once the weather changed my opinion on these tires changed drastically, the car would dangerously aquaplane on the slightest amount of water and became difficult to control in bad weather, made driving extremely uncomfortable. The slightest amount of mud at the side of the roads was also enough to cause the wheels to lock up under slight braking, I drive mostly on country roads in the Scottish Highlands. My wife's VW Tiguan on Uniroyal Rainsport 5's does not exhibit these traits on the same roads, a far more safe and confident drive.
At my work we have a discovery 4 as well and it runs on Goodyear duratracs and does not exhibit these handling traits in poor weather so it can be directly attributed to the tires.
Also they are wearing fast, 5000 miles done and 5mm tread gone from the front so its time to change before the winter, 3mm left on the front and 5mm on the back and they have been changed for Goodyear's as I've never had any problems with them.
Negatives; Poor in wet conditions and aquaplanes dangerously.
Understeery.
Noisy tires on nearly every surface.
Long breaking distances.
Average handling.
Poor road feedback.
Would not buy as a replacement tire. Next will be Continental PC7 or Michelin PS4 or 5.
All 4 tires have severe cuts in treads down to cords , I do not drive erratically, fast or off road.
Absolutely no idea why the tires have gone this way and I will speak to Bridgestone.
Approximately £1000 for the set .
I will never buy Bridgestone again.
