Best Tires for the BMW 1 series

Dry handing, steering, and grip is fantastic for this price. This is definitely a street tire but still fun on track. Comfort was good. Wet grip was acceptable but very understeer biased on a 1 series

Initial impressions compared to: 4 nearly new Nexen HP summer tires:
Internal cabin noise : no change
Fuel usage: no major change
Handling: slightly dead feel on the straight ahead, softer turn in, slightly more wallow low speed cornering, but nothing major.
Wet grip: a slight improvement over the summer tire, a lot MORE so at lower temps, 5c or less.
Ride: xl load rating, but the softer construction/ sidewall gives an improvement in ride comfort.
Braking distance: slightly longer in wet and dry.
Snow/ice: not driven yet :-[
Initial conclusion: not a bad tire, just lacking the precision of a HP summer tire.
Gives confidence in colder wet conditions with RWD.

I am back with a winter review,
The tire behaves just fine until around -5 degrees on dry/wet/ asphalt and are good on mud or a little fresh snow.

On old frozen snow however they will get you moving, but you don't feel that the tire grips in any way, these tires will allow you to move slowly in a mostly straight direction. Basically you give a little gas and hope that you move somewhere, every second on snow will sound nerve-wracking - still the traction control will rarely intervene. If there is ice the car will just slide randomly when braking but the tires allow you to always stop. If you keep the speed steady and slow it maintains direction without issues even in tight corners, when you lose control the car just slides and the only thing you can do is to stop it.

My car is RWD and I wouldn't really dare to go up a large hill with snow/ice with these tires unless absolutely necessary. The car slides/spins in place whenever one has to go up on an icy/snowy ramp from a full stop. They will get you up the hill if you insist, but if you don't have a lot of space around you will slide left-right and hit the edge of the road.

At around -10 degrees or lower it starts to feel too hard and slides as soon as you hit some gravel with ice/snow on a half cleaned road, brake a little harder and you slide like a sleigh. I don't know if I would want to test these without snow chains/socks at -20 degrees or lower and fully snow covered roads because the lower the temperature the lower the feel of grip in the steering wheel.

TLDR: I won't say it's a bad tire because it will allow you to move and stop just fine if you have space, otherwise the car felt like a sleigh going sideways more than I would have liked. I managed to get up and down on 20-30% ramps with snow, however in very tight spaces I was very lucky that I didn't hit the car because the car slid sideways a lot when braking. You have to also always pay attention when joining a main road from a snowy road, the rear tires will slide sideways.

Just an overall brilliant tire. It's a joy to drive on them knowing I can trust them when I need to go little bit more to the extreme.

My car previously had factory-fitted brigestone turanza summer tires. They were making a lot of noise on paved roads and slightly rough asphalt. When I first changed them, I wanted to try both four-season and Michelin. This is my 3rd time back and I am extremely pleased. Just be careful when approaching the pavement ☺️

Dangerous in wet I honestly don’t know how they are allowed to be sold, doesn’t matter low or high speed they just don’t grip

Very happy with these tires. The previous one which were fitted to my car were Goodyear Assymetric 6 which performed well but wore quickly and started cracking after only a few months. Initially these were slightly down on grip in the wet but now they have a few miles on them they perform just as well and appear to be wearing much better. Couple that with the much cheaper purchase price and you have a great tire which I will buy again. Things like comfort, handling are all good, they are a relatively stiff sidewall tire which translate to a sharp turn in, but this appears to have not affected comfort in a noticeable way.

I found these Goodyear Asymmetric 6 tires to be significantly better in all weathers on all types of road, better grip, inspiring more confidence at moderate speeds. This includes wet weather driving. The car is so much more planted to the road, I can feel the grip in the corners and bends, traction control light rarely comes on now. These tires are exceptionally quiet also, which is a big desirable for me. I've had these tires for 1000 miles and can highly recommended them. They are also competitively priced, not disproportionately expensive

These tire perform very well when they are new and when the weather is above around 10ºC. However on a cold day or when they are worn below around 4mm performance drops off a cliff. If they are worn and it is a cold damp day the car has next to no grip and is a real handful. I have rated the wear as poor as there is only around 3mm of useable tread if you value performance. Noise and comfort are good.

I have these fitted to my BMW M140i the car is mapped so puts out a little more HP and TQ than stock.

Dry grip: Really good, grips well off the line and out of corners and you know where the limit is.

Wet grip: Is just okay, it's struggles with traction sometimes spinning in 5th gear (Auto) and at times you can feel the ABS kicking in under braking, it also struggles with clearing standing water a bit too. So overall not confidence inspiring in the wet. Anyone saying otherwise simply doesn't drive hard enough to tell the difference between tires.

Feedback: This tire really excels here through the steering wheel and the seat, I can tell what each corner is doing.

Comfort: Is compromised due to a stiff sidewall, but I knew that and I prefer feedback over comfort.

Wear: Too early to tell only covered 2k so far.

Conclusion: If you want a great summer tire that gives you sporty dry handling buy these. Just know that it does come at the expense of wet performance.
