225/35 18 Tire Review Highlights

Accelera PHI R rated 40% while driving a Vauxhall Adam S
Driving on a combination of roads for 3000 spirited miles
Dry Grip - given the price of the tire, just £61.99 a corner, you really cannot ask for more grip than what it has on offer. What these tires can offer in the dry for the price is nothing short of very impressive

Wet Grip - I cannot even put in to words just how dreadful these are in the wet. It feels like I am driving on slicks. I think just about the only positive thing I can say it is the back end doesn't want to come around when lifting off the throttle, but that is likely only because of the utterly insane amount of understeer these have. Even at a normal road driving pace, going around roundabouts it wants to send you in to the curb. It will push wide if you even look at the throttle the wrong way. In the UK considering it rains as much as it does, they are bloody dangerous.

Road Feedback - really just doesn't talk to me at all. Am I understeering? How much grip is left? Am I about to run out? Who knows, because these tires have their lips sealed. Coupled with the atrocious wet grip, you don't really know you are about to or are already understeering until it is about to send you in to the curb. In the dry it is good enough, but it just doesn't really tell me what it's limits are making it hard to really press on.

Wear - I can't comment on this, they were so bad in the wet that I had to take them off after just 3000 miles

Comfort - it is a 225/35 18 tire so it is only bound to be so comfortable. The side wall does feel very stiff, it jitters about and big bumps are back breaking. It reminds me a bit of run-flats.

Buy again - if we lived in a dry world and I was on a tight budget, honestly for anyone not eeking out every percent of their vehicle and really looking for a dynamic drive, these are brilliant. Downright groundbreaking for £61.99 a tire dare I say. But unfortunately that isn't the real world, and a tire where I fear the poor weather as if I have to avoid an accident these will likely fail miserably, it is not fun to own.

Not only that but they were so bad that if the weather forecast said rain it would genuinely ruin my drive, any slight dampness on the road would mean fun out of the window and a fight for not understeering in to a ditch. Just to give some perspective, my new Continental Sport Contact 7's are a joy to drive. If anything I get excited for some rain every now and then as it means grip limits are lower, meaning more playing about with the chassis without the risk factors being as high.

Hankook Ventus S1 evo 3 rated 93% while driving a BMW 330i
Driving on mostly town for 100 average miles
These Hankooks have replaced some Goodyear Asymmetric 5's and have improved my car dramatically. I only replaced the rear tires on my BMW 330i and it has made the car handle better, the car feels more balanced and flows through corners better. They are quieter and more comfortable too. I have found my tires for sure here, I am very impressed.

Hankook Ventus S1 Evo Z K129 rated 70% while driving a Vauxhall Corsa vxr
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 spirited miles
Good all round sports tire, feels good under braking and cornering. In the wet it's good but noticeably less grip than in the dry, which is good as I have found with some other tires in the wet they feel great and then fall off. This tire feels less competent in the wet but it let's you know that through the car and steering wheel so you know your limits. In comparison to the bridgestone s001 and toyo proxes that I've had on this vehicle I would say its the best for dry grip and all weather feel and in my opinion the wear is similar to the other two options aswel.

Nankang Sportnex AS2 Plus rated 61% while driving a BMW 3 series
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 average miles
Take my review with a pinch of salt since I have 225/35 r18 on a 8.5” rim - so a very slight stretch. My car has all oem sport suspension apart from eibach lowering springs.

My driving is on a mix of regional roads and motorways with a bit of occasional spirited driving thrown in. I average about 600 miles/week.

Positives: The grip once these tires get warm is very impressive. I can chuck my car around corners with confidence, braking is nice. Weight of the steering is perfect for me.

Wet grip is excellent, I can drive through standing water without aquaplaning at all.

Wear seems to be alright 5000 miles in. I have proper alignment/camber and it’s worn the inside a bit more than I would have liked, but it’s still fairly good.

Negatives: The biggest problem I have is the road noise. On anything other than a billiards table it is just ridiculously loud. It seems to be a bit higher pitch than other tires I’ve had, which just adds to the annoyance. Transmits every little crack on the road into the cabin. I actually thought my suspension top mounts were the issue and took them out to check - nope, it’s 100% the tires.

Tires seem to tramline and follow any divets in the road very easily so you have to pay attention on backroads or roads lorries use a lot.

The initial turn in of the car seems a bit dulled but once loaded up the feedback is decent.

Cold performance is a bit sketchy. Definitely would not chance using them too late into Autumn.

Rovelo RPX 998 rated 97% while driving a BMW 330 Ci Sport
Driving on mostly motorways for 13000 average miles
I've covered 13000 miles with these tires and still loads of tread left however the rears are about finished on the insides due to slight rear camber.excellent tire considering the power and weight that goes through them

Pirelli P Zero rated 67% while driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI MK7
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
I have recently bought a 2016 Golf GTi which came with these fitted and they are not far off new. In the dry and warm the grip is excellent, you can really lean on them and feedback is good. They are also acceptably quiet and comfortable. However they are lacking in the wet. Damp cold conditions reveals particularly poor traction and grip. They are ok in warmer wet conditions but don't cope particularly well with standing water. Overall an acceptably good tire if you live in a warmer climate but it hasn't got a balanced range of abilities like a newer Michelin or Goodyear equivalent.

These tires are ware on VW Tiguan ALLSPACE 2.0 TDI 4X2. I think that they are the best tires for any 4x2 SUV.

Bridgestone Potenza Sport rated 38% while driving a Honda Civic 1.8
Driving on mostly motorways for 300 average miles
Very disappointed when using high performance, no grip at dry when accelerating, they seek road grooves very much and because of that they are very scary to accelerating. They bounce when accelerating. I had before Hankook Evo2 k120 tires which didnt do these all shit things, they was much better tires for high performance. If i knew how bad these Bridgestone Potenza Sport tires are, i wouldnt buy them.

Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Plus rated 78% while driving a BMW 335i
Driving on for 2000 spirited miles
BMW E92 335i RWD MT (~360bhp)
Great grip in the wet, reduces likelihood of aqua planing and disperses puddles much better than my summer tires (currently Bridgestone Potenza non run flat 255/30/19). Swapped to winter alloys in November. Tires are comfy and pretty quiet compared to the Bridestone rubber... will be looking at Michelin Pilot 4S for next Summer I think. Overall very happy, despite not having much snow and ice this winter I have more confidence on cold mornings. I can definitely notice the difference that changing the wheels has made. Traction is much better when temp is 5•C and below, the summer tires were just spinning up at light acceleration. I’m happy to recommend these tires, FYI please check out the TYRE-REVIEWS channel on YouTube, really interesting comparisons and highlights the pros/cons of tires... hope y’all found this informative

Davanti DX640 rated 40% while driving a Vauxhall Corsa vxr
Driving on mostly motorways for 5000 spirited miles
These tires came fitted to the car when we bought it, all 4 brand new had been fitted by the garage before we collected car.

I was concerned as I had never heard of the brand but did not want to replace brand new tires so thought I would give them a go.

tires were ok at first dry and wet grip were reasonable although not amazing. But after a few months the tires went downhill fast, dry grip became no better than average and wet grip was downright dangerous.

Front wheels spin up when pulling away from junctions even in the dry and handling at any speed over 40mph is poor. In the wet the tires are just plain dangerous, front wheels spin up and send the traction control crazy even on the slightest use of the throttle and the car aquaplains at speed regularly, it's like trying to drive on ice.

After 2 almost accidents due to aquaplaining and the car being completely out of control in the wet the tires were removed as I considered them dangerous, fronts still had around 5mm of tread rears around 7mm. They were replaced with Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 3 tires all round and these tires even after 6 months of spirited driving are still providing excellent grip in both dry and wet, just shows how bad the davanti tires really are.

Worst tires I have ever had fitted to a car, average at best in dry and dangerous in the wet. Do not buy.

Dunlop SportMaxx RT 2 rated 87% while driving a Unknown
Driving on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
Recently just had the Dunlop’s fitted to my e46 330i touring (which I drive spiritedly) after replacing the cooper tires the previous owner had on the car and my god is there a difference ,it’s hard to unsettle these tires including when I boot the car round wet roundabouts the tires seem to just stick and car feels planted even with the weight of the rear of the car wanting to fling its self round it maintains its composure ,in the dry the tires maintain traction well off the line with very little slip (dsc off) although I haven’t had them long at the moment I highly rate them for daily spirited driving and would recommend them

Shockingly hard and awful tire. Dry grip is decent and wet is shocking. This is down to the hard compound of the tire. Avoid buying these!!!
