Writing about the Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 given 70% (225-45-18-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 0 average miles
Very good dry and wet grip (like summer Pilot Sport 4) good level of comfort, but unfortunately very noisy! Maybe due to staggered setup of wheels (225 front / 255 rear) and symetrical "V" shape design, tires produced loud humming noise at 100 km/h, probably some resonance frequency between front and rear... Excellent tire behaviour but noise level was not acceptable and lead me to unfortunately get rid of them... Changed for used Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 and these were much more quiet despite runflats...

Writing about the Avon ZV7 given 37% (225-45-17-W)
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
These were a reluctant replacement for unavailable Kumho PS71. Unfortunately they are nowhere near as good, on my car at least.
The tread blocks are too mobile which gives the overall feel of nervousness and makes the handling a little woolly.
Dry grip is adequate, but on any sort of slippery or wet surface they are pretty poor breaking traction all too easily and feeling very indistinct and not confidence inspiring at all.
Road noise is worse than the Kumhos (and previous Nexens, Dunlops, etc) and the ride is compromised also.
Personally, can't recommend these and I'm waiting to see how long they last.

Writing about the Kumho Ecsta PS71 given 73% (225-45-17-W)

After trying many different tires, these offer the best combination of grip, feel and wear. Road noise is impressively low, grip is good in all/most conditions and the tread is quite firm in that the blocks can't be felt moving around even when new.
They feel positive and give good feedback with no noticeable tramlining noticed.
The only downsides are: the wear rate could be better...but, having said that, these tires in 94XL format, are a fair chunk better than other similarly priced tires offering similar performance and the limited availability.

Writing about the Pirelli P Zero given 59% (255-40-17-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 spirited miles
Gouged the sidewall on a nearly new Goodyear F1 while negotiating a narrow lane in Devon, Pirelli was the only quality alternative available. Plenty of dry grip but not so good in the wet. worn out after 10K, abysmal. The Goodyear F1 on the same axle was about half worn despite 2000 more miles. Won't ever buy Pirelli again, not a patch on the F1 for mileage and not that hot on grip.

Writing about the Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT given 49% (225-45-17-)

Got 18000 miles from the rear, 25000miles from fronts in 330E BMW.
My main complaint is that over roundabouts the fronts would squeal horribly at relatively low speeds and understeer a lot.

I preferred the tires when the outer edges of the fronts had worn away. They no longer squealed and gripped better. -I think this is more to do with the BMW suspension setup though (M sport suspension, 17" tires

Writing about the Debica Frigo HP2 given 80% (225-45-17-)
Driving on mostly town for 5000 easy going miles
I used them this winter (2017-2018) on BMW E90 RWD am very impressed by the quality. Maybe because the first models are produced in Germany and for that.
(When I move them to Poland I do not believe they have such a quality). They are very good at WET, SNOW and Ice !. On dry also very good. Do not give up on anything of premium class. Ðœaybe only noise and wear but not sure.

Writing about the Firestone Multihawk 2 given 75% (195-65-15-)

I had the original Multihawk, and now the Multihawk 2. Seems much the same, which isn't a bad thing. Good all round tire, nice price.

These are good tires, especially as they used to be very cheap...
But, when the price of them rose dramatically, I went over to Nankang NS2 (which are significantly cheaper) and I noticed very little difference.
Good dry grip, OK wet grip, good feedback.
The Falkens are a decent, solid choice, but I think they are over-rated - they certainly don't deserve a 90%+ rating as some people on here seem to suggest!!

I bought 9 of these for my BMW 330 over the course of 4 years!!
They are easily the best value pound for pound tire available that I have ever used.
I also found them better on the front than the Pirelli P Zero Nero's that they replaced.
Traction in the dry is good.
In the wet traction out of junctions isn't perfect, but it is acceptable.
The only issue I ever had with them is that they can aquaplane if you hit water at speed.
If you are on a budget these would be my top recommendation!

Writing about the Uniroyal RainSport 2 given 27% (225-45-17-)

Replaced the Bridgestone Turanzas on my BMW 330 sport E46 with Uniroyal Rainsport 2 all roundand were fine to start with but within 6 months / 5000 miles they became very noisy sounding like a wheel bearing ( uneven wear ) also started to tramline / bump stear very badly. - Awful. Replaced with Goodyear Eagle F1 assymetric 2 and the car is transformed. Think the V pattern doesn't suit the 3 series at all.
In fairness the Uniroyal Rainsports on my wife's MX5 are fine, but is a lighter /slower car.

Driving on a combination of roads for 7000 spirited miles
Fitted a set front and rear to my e46 330i sport touring and also had them on my e39 530i. I drive my cars hard given the right place and time and they they are out standing but really come into their element on wet roads. Unless you drive like a hooligan you will be able to drive as hard/fast in the rain ad you would in the dry. But that's not the point, the point is that you are safe in all road conditions. The only fault I have for them is that they can wear quickly. On a RWD heavy car I wouldn't expect a set to last more than 12 to 16 thousand miles. 7000 miles into these tires and the rears are down to 3-4 mm but the fronts are over 5mm
