Best Tires for the Volkswagen Sharan SE 2.0TDi

Came fitted to the front wheels of a used Sharan. 4.5mm tread. Wheel alignment good.

Truly awful tires although they taught me to be a much gentler city driver.

Wheel spin pulling away from lights and junctions.
ESG engaged during moderate acceleration on less than perfect roads.
Massive understeer around corners
Drifting on roundabouts.
Car felt unstable at motorway speed.
All of above amplified by a factor of five with any moisture in road.
Reluctant to stop in wet.

Not issues usually associated with a diesel mpv!

Swapped out for a set of good year's and all issues resolved.

Having had budgets at front and pirelli cinterato p7 at the back when I brought the car, I would have just changed fronts to pirelli as they are a branded tire but the ride was too hard and wasn't very sporty for my driving style. I like confidence inspiring tires as I can imagine running late on a very wet motorway and having confidence to push ahead. Probably because I also came from an audi rs4 b7 to a sharan lol so wanted good tires. I searched for 3 months using tirereviews website and videos. I ended up settling for the goodyear Eagle f1 ass 5s all round. So what do I think. When I had them delivered them the rubber was very sticky which is a good thing as the description mentions "extra silica load" as soon as they were fitted and I put my food down I had wheel spin and was shocked but then I left them to run in and now its much better for a front wheel drive. Or I could say damaging to the car as there is a hell of a lot of grip and car is trying to push along and the grip is keeping tires from spinning which puts pressure on the clutch not to mention lateral grip around bends is a lot and feels like I may be braking the car as if the body is twisting around a fast roundabout and the grip is all on the road. I feel the tires are too good for the car lol. Now the not so nice bits. Firsty I noticed a 5mpg drop in fuel economy which is pretty bad. Also the steering isn't very sporty and precise and pointy as I wanted. Shame conti sport contact 6 aren't in 18" as I had these tires on my rs4 in 19" and liked the pointy sharp steering unless its the car thats at fault. The active braking technology that according to the goodyear advert says that the rubber expands in the road when braking to increase rubber to road contact, not sure but I definitely don't feel a better stopping wheras I did with the red chilli technology on the contis again it could be the car. I would recommend the tire for confidence driving when going fast but if you are not a fast driver then any good tire will work for you on a vw sharan I wouldn't recommend it for better mpg though. Minimal road noise. Road imperfections are medium as you still feel bumps but a little rounded just like tirereviews said, sort of in the middle of the range in that regard but better than the pirellis I replaced which when you run your hand over the tread feels quite plasticky and the goodyear definitely rubbery which is a good thing. My only other gripe is that the asymmetric design i.e. each rib along the tread pattern is felt in the steering as you turn and feels a bit spongy, maybe its because its new and thicker tread but again when i had conti sport contact 6 on my rs4 it felt superior from new. Overall I would probably try a continental sport contact tire next.

Got these new when I bought the car second hand. Inspire of a somewhat soft suspension, for a VW, the tires transmitt every single grain of sand on the road back to the cabin. Dry grip feels ok, corners well, taking the car where you point it at. Wet is another story. After a summer spell and mucky roads, the tires didn't show enough grip to give me confidence in them in the wet. Not buying this brand in the future, can't wait to replace them.

Limited review on the grounds that I have only completed 1500 miles to the Alps and back. Car was fully laden (5 people, roofbox and snowboard equipment/luggage. Road noise was not an issue, VW Sharan handled without issue throughout the trip and had no need for snow chains in resort while others all used chains!! We had plenty of snow in resort and the trip down from resort was cold and icy which these tires dealt with just fine. Hard to comment on fuel consumption as we had the roofbox.

An excellent tire in the WET on front of my VW Sharan 2.0 TDi even when tire was worn to 2mm.

Not done many miles yet but in terms of noise and comfort these tires are so much better than the Michelin Primacy HP they replaced. The Michelins lasted 32,000 largely motorway miles but they were hard/noisy and I was pleased to trade (no doubt) this sort of mileage for some comfort and grip. These are a Premium tire fitted by a mobile retailer so I got what I was after, not what the the local retailer had on the rack. I did do a lot of research.There is a given rotation but the tread is not asymmetric. Predictably there is no sign of wear, most of the mileage being north/south, M6 or M1. Will post again, don't hold your breath, its a second car so mileage builds slowly.

An excellent Winter tire from Dunlop. Fitted to the front (only) of my VW Sharan 2.0 TDi. First class performance in the snow. Also in the wet, resulting in them remaining on throughout the year. I wasmpressed with the wear also as got 16k miles out of them. Replaced with another pair such was my satisfaction. Buy them in summer and store them ready for winter is my advice as the price can rise. Overall: Highly Recommended.
