Ford Ranger Tire Review Highlights
Writing about the Falken Wildpeak AT4W given 85% (225-75-15)
I've owned my 2007 Ford Ranger Sport for about 4 years now and the previous tires were truck/suv highway type. I was looking to replace them because they were absolutely horrible in the wet and snow. My ranger would ALWAYS lose traction on wet painted crosswalks, even at normal acceleration, and would take longer than I liked to recover. I don't do any off road driving and wanted the Michelin CrossClimate 2 because I put them on my daughter's Ford Escape and they performed above and beyond in Fargo and Duluth winters. But the CC2 doesn't come in the right size for my Ranger and all of the light truck street/highway tires rated poorly in wet and snow. In desperation I looked into the AT tire world and found many reviews that gave the WP AT4 high marks in wet and snow. The first rain shower after I put them on, I went looking for my crosswalk nemesis and was extremely pleased. No loss of traction at normal acceleration and when I punched it to force traction loss, traction was regained as soon as I cleared the paint. We've had several snow falls and some ice already this winter and I've had good experience. When I hit the gas a little too hard on a turn and start a fishtail, the tires grab again as soon as I let off the gas. I hit a patch of ice at the end of my block one morning and the tires and anitlock brakes kept me from sliding into the intersect for the first time since I bought my truck. On dry pavement, they are louder and ride more trucky, but I soon got used to it. Overall, my early impression is that I made a good choice.

Writing about the Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 given 81% (235-85-16)
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
Went with the Nokian LT3 as it's one of the few tires I could get in an 85 aspect ratio. As an unabashed sidewall (and pizza cutter) fan, I'll optimize for that over quite a few other things.

Starting grip (accelerating from a full stop) is ok in 2WD, but I think this is largely because these are load E LT tires. It's worse than the blizzaks I had prior, but those were much lower load tires. Never had an issue with 4X4 engaged.

Lateral grip is excellent. There's occasionally a little initial softness going into a corner with ice or compacted snow, but this is pretty rare, and the tires are very good at letting you know how much grip you have left. Even with a bed rack and rooftop tent, it usually takes some effort to make the backend swing out (again speaking to the good lateral grip.) Even if the backend does swing out, it's a very forgiving tire to recover.

Rock solid in slushy conditions, I change these out for 235/85R16 Falken AT4Ws in the spring so I can't speak as much to the purely wet or dry performance (but I've never had an issue either.)

Been incredibly happy with them, and the only annoyance is that starting grip from a full stop, but I have chains if it ever bothers me too much.

When pulling away in wet conditions - in heavy traffic, so not fast - my Ford's traction control comes on. It is like driving on a very slippery road when wet. Very disappointed.

Writing about the Bridgestone Dueler All Terrain AT002 given 100% (265-60-18-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 400 easy going miles
Bought these for my Ford Ranger based in the UK. Early days but so far excellent grip on dry and wet roads, no aquaplaning in heavy rain. Have noticed on mud im able to move along in 2WD whereas on the OEM Continental tires I would have to select 4WD. Performance in light wet snow on UK roads has been excellent. Waiting for heavy snow to assess further. Slight rumbling from tread pattern at ~28mph but you have to really listen for it. Otherwise completely on par noise wise with previous conti tires. Highway speed any tire noise is overridden by wind noise from mirrors. Ride comfort is excellent and mpg is 0.5mpg average better than Conti's. Run tires at 35psi inline with ECE117 tire label rating reg. when driving on asphalt. Will review further when have higher wear but so far so good.

Tires look great. Handle brilliant on the sand. But the wet it's like driving with bambi on ice.. no grip at all. Disappointed.

Driving on mostly country roads for 7500 average miles
Worst tires I have ever driven. Was convinced to replace the Goodyears on my Ford Ranger with Giti. The Goodyears were worn after 35,000 Ks (22,000 miles) with my driving style and conditions. First thing you notice is excessive road noise. Second was a serious lack of sealed road grip, especially in the wet. As a final nail in the coffin, they were badly worn after just 12,000Km and had to be replaced.

A great 4x4 tire, I have driven 65,000 km on it.
In winter it is a fantastic tire.

Driving on mostly town for 60000 spirited miles
Tires are going on 35T km and the front is already near the tread bars. Drive is mostly in the city where roads aren't smooth. 20% of the time I drive to the highway going to the province with rough road with lots of rocks and mud. Has good grip on wet and dry roads. Decent grip on rocky roads. I would buy again but looking at the reviews, there are better tires or same performance tires with a lower price tag. If you want a reliable brand and you have money then pull the trigger on this one. But if on a tight budget, other alternatives are available.

Driving on mostly motorways for 2000 easy going miles
These tires cause vibration when driving. Vibrations are bad > 40 mph and cause mirrors to shake to the extent it is not possible to read registration plates etc on vehicles behind. The tires make the drive uncomfortable and I am sure cause accelerated damage to the vehicle and wear as well as reduced fuel economy. Vibrations are not due to bad balancing, this was rechecked 3 times on different machines. I do not recommend if you plant to drive faster than 20 mph.

Were the stock tires which came with the 4x4. Their sidewalls are paper thin and I replaced them after only 15,000km with some Hankooks. They did not perform very well on the Namibian off road terrain and suffered numerous punctures and sidewall perforations. I unfortunately to not trust these tires at all from my experience

The tires are very noisy. The tires are showing signs of cracking after 10000km even though there is at least 3 mm of thread left.
