Performance Analysis

Drawn from 39 tests. Updated September 2, 2025.

Across 39 tests, the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance demonstrates consistently strong wet and balanced summer performance with multiple test wins and frequent top-five finishes. It excels in wet braking and wet handling, often pairing short stopping distances with confident subjective control, and typically shows competitive aquaplaning resistance and rolling resistance. Dry performance is solid-to-good, with occasional top-tier braking and stable handling, underpinning reliable everyday safety.

Weaknesses appear in variability: some tests show mid-pack to weak wet braking/handling and average noise and comfort, plus inconsistent value/wear outcomes. Despite a few outliers (e.g., lower placements in certain 2018-2019 tests), the broader pattern is positive, including several overall wins and podiums, indicating a mature, well-rounded touring tire best suited to wet-biased climates.

The Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance handled wet tests without difficulty, but in the dry their response was somewhat slower, especially in the case of an emergency maneuver. However, the tires were quite predictable. Rolling resistance was the lowest in the test and they are also very quiet tires.

Auto Express 205/55 R16

As with most Goodyear tires, the Efficientgrip Performance really excelled in the wet tests, and blended the best rolling resistance on test with low cabin noise too. Slightly let down subjectively in the dry, the Goodyear wasn't the sharpest tire on test, or the grippiest, but it was only a fraction off the pace.

2014 Auto Review Summer Tire Test - 205/55 R16

Auto Review 205/55 R16

Goodyear tires are traditionally strong on the asphalt, and the EfficientGrip Performance is no exception. Handling on the track they are only slightly behind the test leader, Continental, only 0.3 seconds over 1 miles. On the steering wheel the car reacts smoothly and accurately. And only when braking occurs uncertainty - the wheels are locked early. With a speed of 50 mph Octavia stops almost five meters further than tires Continental! On dry roads the situation is reversed - with brakes all good, but in the corners reactions become "smeared." This soft and quiet tires, and we would recommend them if you want a quiet, comfortable ride.

2014 Test World Summer Tire Test

Test World 205/55 R16

The Goodyear has the lowest rolling resistance of tires tested. Combine fuel efficiency with high traction on wet surfaces - a very difficult task, and Goodyear perfectly coped with it. Grip on the wet track was optimal and manageable. The Goodyears only weakness was aquaplaning, which caused it to lose a number of positions in the overall results

Goodyear scored first place for having raised the bar to a new level with regards to a low rolling resistance and high wet grip. The EfficientGrip Performance was excellent in all the tests, good handling and speed on wet roads, good ride quality in the dry and cope well with sudden direction changes. Perhaps the only negative is a comparatively average aquaplaning resistance.
