Fitment comes from each tire's manufactured size list, and the sizes are the ones drivers reported when they reviewed. Check the size, load index and speed rating on your own doorplate before buying - a size a previous owner ran is not always the size your car left the factory on.

## Michelin Primacy 5 Energy — update after one season

I bought the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy tires on 20 May 2026 and fitted them a few days later. After one summer season and approximately 10,000 km, I can give a more balanced opinion than in my initial review, written just a week after fitting them.

My VW ID.3 Pro (204 HP, 310 Nm, rear-wheel drive) is fitted with 215/55 R18 99V XL tires with rim protection.

Handling and stability remain the biggest advantages. Compared with the factory weird Continental EcoContact 6 (95T), the Michelins make the car feel much more planted and predictable. The stiffer sidewalls are a major improvement over the original tires, which made the car feel rather soft and boat-like.

I also tested them in the mountains on wet asphalt, in cold and rainy conditions, including tight hairpin bends. I deliberately tried to break traction, and although it was possible, I had to push the car quite hard. When traction was finally lost, it was only briefly. This gave me a positive impression of their wet grip and predictability, although it wasn't a controlled test.

Energy consumption is another significant advantage. Compared with the original Continental EcoContact 6, I've observed a reduction of around 1–2 kWh/100 km — a meaningful difference for an EV.

Noise is where I have to revise my initial opinion. Despite their official external noise rating of 69 dB, I expected them to be quieter inside the cabin. They aren't excessively noisy, but road noise is more noticeable than I had hoped.

My expectations probably come from previous experience. The quietest summer tires I've ever owned were Dunlop Sport BluResponse, which I used around 2015. They were exceptionally quiet and comfortable, although I remember them wearing relatively quickly. Of course, comparing tires across different cars and wheel sizes isn't entirely fair.

The noise level isn't a deal-breaker. Considering the improvement in handling, stability and energy consumption, I'm still happy with my choice.

And one small detail still makes me smile: the clear Michelin branding and the little Michelin Man raising his hand as if greeting me whenever I walk up to the car. A small thing, perhaps, but it genuinely improves my mood.

Overall: After one season and approximately 10,000 km+, I still consider the Michelin Primacy 5 Energy 99V XL a significant upgrade over the factory Continental EcoContact 6. Excellent stability, reassuring wet grip and lower energy consumption make them a very good choice for my needs. I just expected them to be quieter inside the cabin.

Had these on my VW ID.3 with a 95T index-weird for an EV, right? It really should be 99V XL for a heavy electric vehicle. After 3 years, l've got used to them, but these tires are strictly for city driving, and that's it.
Steering feedback is heavily muted, as if there's a carpet between the tire and the road. The extremely soft sidewalls make the car float like a boat on water. Cornering is tragic-you can completely forget about taking sharp turns fast.
You actually have to drive 10 to 20 km/h slower compared to normal tires.
Noise levels are average. On the plus side, rolling resistance is very low, so fuel/energy consumption is great-but it's definitely not worth the trade-off.
Fun fact: you can find the PremiumContact 7 for the exact same price.

Replaced on my VW ID.3 Pro (204HP) the factory Continental EcoContact 6 (215/55 R18 95T), which were honestly disappointing and danger to drive due to way to soft sides. Quite strange they weren’t XL, considering how heavy this EV is...
This is why I switched to Michelin Primacy 5 Energy 99V XL with rim protection – and the difference is huge.
Grip and stability improved a lot. The car now feels extremely confident, almost like a sporty setup (even though these aren’t Pilot Sports). Cornering is perfect. I also can comfortably carry 20 km/h more through bends and the tires just hold.
Comfort is very good, and they stay quiet on the highway. I would explain that in EVs, most of the noise comes from airflow and wind anyway, then tires – so expectations need to be adjusted a bit. For anyone new to EV driving, it feels like a mix of:
a car (because of the tires),
a plane (wind noise outside cabin),
a train (smooth, heavy, linear acceleration).

Also worth mentioning: they look really good. Clear “Michelin” branding, and the little Michelin Man with a raised hand almost feels like he’s greeting you every time you walk up to the car – small detail, but it genuinely improves my mood :)

Overall: big upgrade over OEM tires – excellent handling, stability, and still great comfort.

My first winter tire set on a VW ID.3.
Now it’s truly winter, so they have proven themselves not only on dry and wet roads, but also on snow and ice. Overall, this is a very reliable tire. It provides noticeably good grip on snowy and slushy roads as well. In city traffic, it allows for much more confident driving and lane changes. Ice is, of course, unpredictable, so I was cautious there too, but on snow it is clearly a reliable and stable tire.

On dry roads, it is slightly louder than summer tires, which is natural. Energy consumption is also higher by about 2–3 kWh/100 km, but I believe this was also due to the colder autumn and winter days. It is a good choice for an electric car as well, because overall it remains quiet and does not increase consumption significantly, while delivering reliable performance. I would definitely buy this tire again—if it didn’t wear out sooner than I plan to change the car.

Pirelli Cinturato Winter 3 215-50-19 Volkswagen ID3 1,000 miles November 4, 2025
I equipped this winter tire on a VW ID3 on the stock 19'' rims. In this dimension the tire was available with PNCS (Noise reduction foam inside the tire). The tire is indeed very silent at low speeds, just as much as the stock (ev-optimized) summer tires, which is remarkable for a winter. Tire noise starts to develop from 100 km/h. The dry handling is surprisingly an upgrade over the summer OE Goodyear efficient grip. The rear end is less prone to losing grip under acceleration. The same upgrade is also present in wet conditions. The electric consumption is on the rise compared to the summer tire, but this could also be attributed to the colder weather. I still have to see what it's capable of on snowy roads. It is simply an excellent tire to drive with and it pairs very well with the VW ID3.

Used on a VW ID3 EV much better than the original Bridgestone tires but a little less efficient 5-7% range drop.

Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Gen 1 215-55-18 Volkswagen ID3 10,000 miles September 30, 2025
The tire loses grip on cold, wet roads. On my rear-wheel-drive car, it tends to slide in corners, so I have to drive more carefully than usual. At lower temperatures, the rubber hardens, which reduces both grip and comfort. Because of these issues, I found the tires unsafe and decided to replace them.

On the positive side, they offer good steering response (a bit stiffer sides), are fairly quiet, and feel comfortable, but only when the temperature stays above 5 °C

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 215-55-18 Volkswagen ID3 9,500 miles September 17, 2025
OE tire on a VW ID3. Very unusual tire for me. In terms of NVH, they show excellent comfort and are whisper quiet.

In terms of driving dynamics, they are suprisingly peaky on the limit of grip of the rear axle. With the RWD electric ID3, when torque is applied in a turn, a sudden oversteer happens with audible screeching. The limit of grip is hard to navigate and makes the rear axle of the car slightly unstable under spirited driving, with plenty of ESP intervention. The front axle has a better stability but with still quite low grip limit on turns, with understeer appearing progressively. The tires can be scary on straight heavy braking at speed by they low general level of grip making the heavy electric ID3 longer to stop than I anticipated, even on perfectly dry roads.

In the wet, these imperfections are magnified, making the car unsafe to drive sportily and imposing a more relaxed style.

I would personnal opt for a more performance oriented tire as a replacement. The balance is set too far on the side of efficency for the tire to be suitable for my use on country roads. The safety feels compromised in the wet.

These came fitted to my 2020 ID.3 pro performance. They seem fine on the road, but (as you'd expect for a summer tire) don't deal well with traction on wet grass! I'm really curious about whether swapping them with Hankook iON Evos would be worthwhile when they wear out, and how they compare to Enso tires for durability and efficiency!

I got a secondhand VW ID.3 with these tires. Everything was OK before a first rainy day. No problems with driving just forward but any maneur I feel unsafe. It feels like I am very close to loose car control. This goes for turning, acceleration, changing line of a motorway.
I made a decision to swap these tires before fall.
