I have Pilot Sport 5’s wrapped on all four corners of my car. I briefly had Pilot Sport 3 and 4 on my previous car.

It cost me around £145 per tire fitted, the fronts were fitted a few months after the rears.

The tires are very good for performance, grip really well, however it’s worth noting my car is not high performance so they haven’t exactly been pushed to their limits. They also look the part, it’s always nice to have premium tires on your car.

My issue with these tires is the wear. I do a lot of mileage so I understand the time length will be shorter due to increased distances but how they’ve worn out is poor for the price I’ve paid.

After 10k miles and less than a year, one of the rear tires had become misshapen causing a horrible whirring noise. Still having about 5mm of tread. Also worth noting my car is FWD so it is not even a driven wheel. My cars geometry is within spec and the running gear is okay as well (I am a vehicle technician for a living and I’m very particular on making sure everything is tip top). This was very disappointing as I had paid £140 for a tire that hadn’t lasted 10k miles. I understand this can happen, but then it also happened to the front right tire after around 13k miles and less than a year, although this tire is obviously a driven tire and had worn down to around 3.5mm at this point.

I do a mix of motorway driving and around town driving.

To give everybody an idea, if it weren’t for tire defects.
The front tires centre 3 tread, FWD driven after 13k miles:
Front left: 3.7 / 3.8 / 3.8
Front right: 4.2 / 4.4 / 4.4

And as for the rears, after 21k miles
Rear left: 4.8 / 5.1 / 4.5
Rear right: 5.1 / 5.3 / 5

I had found out through a tire fitter and also noticed through some of my own experiences that Michelins are relatively common to go misshapen prematurely and although they are very well performing tires, the premium cost for them it is not worth it to me for tires that from my experience become defective early on and would rather explore other options.

Very predictable handling in all weather conditions. Excel's in wet and will not hydroplane when driven to road conditions. Slight increase in highway gas mileage. Good in snow and ice but not as quite as good as dedicated snow tires. Quietest tires I've ever had.

Bought these to go on a 2.2tdci mondeo and they're great for the price. Car is a daily user with no issues in the wet and very queit tires. Will use again.

Writing about the Michelin Pilot Super Sport given 90% (235-40-19-W)

I changed all 4 tires from Bridgestone 050's to Michelin Pilot Super Sport for £175 each (Sept 2016). They feel softer than the Bridgestone's, so a slightly better ride. Also quieter, but don't have much in the way of rim protection. I didn't have these on for long (1500 miles) before I swapped over to my winter wheels/tires (235/45/18 Nokian WR A3), but they grip really well in the dry and wet, although initial turn in isn't as sharp as the previous tires (as they are softer). As someone else has mentioned, they need a little warming up before they function at their best.
These were then refitted in the beginning of May 2017, the wheels/tires that were on the rear were fitted to the front and vice versa. Now it's November 2017 and the fronts are down to 2.5mm and covered another 9000 miles, so 10500 miles in total. The rears have also worn quite a lot too, down to 3 - 3.5mm. Slightly disappointed at that, though sort of what I was used to on my previous car for the fronts . For comparison, the Bridgestone 050's lasted for 15000 miles. They still perform well in the dry and wet at normal commuting speeds, though not so well in heavy rain at higher speeds due to their inability to dissipate water due to lack of tread depth.
I wouldn't buy these again now that they have been replaced by the Pilot Sport 4 S, but also not sure if I want to try those either, though I will consider them depending on price.

I mainly drive on minor A and B roads, short stretches of major A roads, towns/ villages at either end of my journeys and occasional motorways. I would say that the majority is spirited driving.

Used them before and great in dry, outstanding wear they are very tough tires and give good resistance to punctures and pot hole damage. However in the wet with tread worn they will skid at 25 to 30 mph! wear indicators still not level so this gives you an idea they need sorted. Still best prices for a 19.

Fitted on a heavy turbo diesel estate with over 250bhp through the front tires these Uni`s have given superb performance in summer and winter. They are not noisy , they are comfortable and they grip wet or dry to fully make the most of my sports supension. After spirited driving on motorways and Cornwall's back roads the fronts will probably make 12k miles before i replace at 3mm. I will always go for performance over lack of grip and longevity but even so I am not disappointed by the wear. On this car I can only compare the the Michelin Pilot these replaced . The UR`s grip better. As the rears have very little wear it will be like for like replacement at the front. As an aside I put these tires on my sons Ford Sports Ka and Fiesta ST150 and they were great on those cars too. As soon as our TT needs new tires these will go on.

OK here's the schizzle - I have a Ford Mondeo 2 ltr diesel TCDi Titanium X-Sport. it is a family car, not a sports car no matter what the badging says (and a rear spoiler is not a performance enhancer), but here it is with 235/40/19s on each corner - tires that are standard fit for the likes of Porsche Caymans. I've tried Conti Sport Contact 2s, and 3s. I've tried Michelin Pilot Sport 3s. I've tried Hankook Ventus Evo2s. They all grip like the proverbial to a blanket. They all have tremendous reassurance. They all perform well when I have been driving on my own and tried to break traction (only to test you understand and only once each). They all cost similar amounts (£lots). They all wear at a frightening rate.
In short, I have a shopping trolley shod with sports car boots. So time to try something a little less expensive, and a little more appropriate - I want good efficiency

I have a tuned Mondeo estate , the sport model. Its a heavy car. It came with Michelin PS2 and was a ggod drive but all too east to spin the fronts . Once at 3 mil they went and following reviews here and the advice of my tire dealer of many years choose Uniroyal Rainsport 3. Great tire. Nice rim protection , attractive tire however wet and dry grip levels are great. I have been in the position over the years that I have been able to pick performance tires and fondly remember Yokohamas early tires that once warm felt sticky like chewing gum , yet last 5k. These tires are premium in every way bar price. In 6000 miles of high speed cintinental driving 140mph and in wwet blats around Cornish countryside roads these tires have been impeccible. So much so I have bought both my sons a set and will shortly be fitting them onto our Audi TT. As for wear 6 months 7k miles and no apparent wear , so have vastly better life than the Continentals SC5 fitted to my lease VW CC .

I replaced the Bridgestone S50 that were on my Mondeo Titanium X sport from new, I was expecting a poor wear rate - so 12k later they needed replacing - much quicker than I was expecting. I was a tad disappointed , but I should have been ready for it. - but wasn't.

I have just put some Michelin Super sports on, the price was similar to new RS3 but expect them to last much longer.

If the RS3 were about £90 rather than the £160 they were up at I would have bought them again but the wear rate was just too great.

This is the second set of accelera tires fitted to my ford mondeo titanium x sport (1997 cc) and I do around 50k miles per year and I have to say that for commercial use on mostly motorway carriages I can't fault these especially when you consider the price. I notice most of the adverse reviews are from owners of high performance cars who feel the need to corner harshly on roundabouts and since I'm not a simple boy racer I will be happy to fit another set to cover the next 30,000 miles.
