Volvo V70 R AWD Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Avon ZV7 given 69% (235-40-18-)

I know the Avon is a more 'mid range' tire, but it still delivers in most of the areas that you want from a sporty to borderline 'UHP' tire. Leaves a little to be desired in wet grip, tending to push wide by preference when leaned on. Great in the dry, grip pretty well but tend to get hot pretty quickly on something the size and weight of the Volvo. The most dissapointing thing about these is the durability, not only do they tend to dissapear remarkably quickly, but in the case of the rears, they have started to suffer from cracking (both in the tread grooves and on the sidewalls) on tires that are less than 2 years old and have done less than 20000km. Some quick reserch reveals that this is not a rare problem. All in a good tire, maybe some better options out there, but certainly for the money they are a solid bet.

I used use Goodyear Ay3, and P-zero. My own opinion that Ay5 less wet grip than Ay3. Brake is same. (Dry and wet), dry grip better. It’s quiet and comfortable.

Writing about the Pirelli P Zero PZ4 given 83% (235-40-18-)
Driving on a combination of roads for 4000 spirited miles
The grip and precision of this tire is excellent in all conditions, dry and wet. The road feedback is very good and makes this tire easy to drive close to the limit on normal roads, providing good information. Around the on-centre the response is tight and precise. The weight of the steering correlates very well with the lateral response and the effort build-up is nice and smooth. I find it very progressive when driving over the limit, which is surprising given the amount of mechanical grip available. Comfort is also suprisingly good, with low impact noise (numb noise) and well controlled wheel shake and vibrations. Wear is the only negative aspect of this tire, as right now with 6000km the fronts are well past mid-life and their performance on straight ahead is much worse, with a larger response deadband and less progressive lateral response generation. Would recommend because of the performance, but idk if I'd buy again knowing they'll probably last 10kkm or so. Maybe wear on a lighter car would be better.

DO NOT BUY THESE TYRES! Less than 3 years old and tread only half worn, I spotted a nail in the tire. Upon taking the wheel off to go and get a puncture repair, I couldnt believe my eyes at the state of the inside wall! It was breaking down so badly and it might as well have been slashed with a hot knife. I dont know how it didnt blow out. The guys at the garage then explained the difference between budget tires and premium. Having seen this I dont think I am ever going to buy a budget tire again! I do not drive my car hard enough to comment on grip etc, but there is no way a tire should deteriorate like thi.s.

Writing about the Marangoni Mythos given 74% (235-40-18-W)

Great value replacement for Pirelli P Zero Rossos. Car feels very good on them, firm and condidence building on the road. I tend to be picky with tires, and did a lot of reading up before I put them on, so happy with my choice and will be using these again.

Also they look good, and have good rim protection. Fronts have not done 12000 miles, and looking at the wear so far I'm expecting at least 18000 before they're worn out - and that's on a 300bhp car.

Ride is good, noise is low, grip is good. If I'm being really picky I think the Pirellis are a bit softer and higher grip in the dry, but these were near half the price. Highly recommended.

Had used Pirelli P zero Rosso's for years, but was aware now of tram lining and decided to make a change, after reading feed back from this site, I decided to go with The Asymmetric, wow, what a tire, has transformed everything about the handling of my car for the better. These tires are like slicks, with grooves in them, they get hot and sticky, who cares how long they last with grip like this.
