Best Tires for the Audi A4 3.0 TDi quattro remapped

Purchased the 4S2s pitched as 'upper mid-priced' but comparatively good all-year-round performer according to prior reviews. Was temped by the Vredestein Quatrac Pro at only a couple of quid more, but decided that I fancied the 4S2s tread pattern.
The 4S2s feel fine. I'm no boy racer but 630lb ft of torque via 3.0TDI Quattro transmission provides awesome roundabout exits!
So performance for an all season tire appears good. However, ....and this is a BIG however: These boots are doing around 12% less miles to the gallon. Now, over a predicted 28,000miles that equates to around 75 more gallons of diesel. Even at an average £1.50 per liter that means these tires may cost me more than the price of a set of new 4S2s at todays prices...fitted and balanced...over their useable life!
I think that Ill be going back to try Vreds if the motor is still with me in 3 yrs!
My history of tires for this motor was as follows:
Vred Ultrac's (Sessanta and Vorti) and I couldn't fault them as a long lasting summer tire.
I went budget for a set of Summer Nankang AS2+ but they turned out to be just as expensive per mile (lasted 75% of the Vred mileage for 75% of the cost). These also developed worryingly long circumferential splits on all inner sidewalls (thankfully didn't fail but neither the retailer nor manufacturer gave a sh!t about my complaint).

Changed from budget landsails to these, fantastic tire balance and feel of the car is great, very easy to control the car at the limit. Tire loads up nicely, in the wetter / colder weather with greasy roads it's made the car more liable to oversteer (only when pushing it) Really quiet tire

Really like this tire Dry grip, its not the best outright grip and when giving it full the brakes you can feel the unusual tread pattern is ideally suited to heavy braking however cornering and forward traction feels very good and the its a tire i really like driving on, always lets you know what its doing i feel and never catches you out. Big improvement over the rainsport 3 i feel in the dry. Wet grip is very good on these tires never have an issue with grip at all. Good for everything in the wet, really cant say more than that. Comfortwise the tire I'd say is pretty average noise wise but i like the comfort of them my audi has slightly crashy suspension and these really have softened them up a bit. tire life seems pretty good as well looking at them now after 5000 miles and ive got 5.5 mil left which for my driving is pretty good.

An excellent tire from budget brand. Initially got these tires brand new with rims I bought second hand, but after 30k miles and 3 years I couldn't find anything to complaint about. They felt the same as my previous Dunlop Sportmaxx RT2 for 1/2 to 1/3 the price. Usually budget tires fell on their face on wet road, like Antares I had, but Sailuns were excellent. Bought them again, this time 235 instead of 225.
