Volkswagen Golf Mk4 1,6 16V Tire Review Highlights
I have been very happy with this choice over the last 18k miles. I was looking for a tire with excellent grip in the wet and gentle breakaway characteristics at the limit and these Uniroyals have exceeded my high expectations. They make driving in poor conditions secure, safe and enjoyable. Aquaplaning resistance is excellent. Likewise rolling comfort is at least as good as any other tire of this size that I have tried. Even now down to 2.5mm of tread they still feel unusually grippy and secure in wet or low temperature situations. In the dry there is less trade off than you might expect. They feel like a regular summer tire that is maybe 2psi under the recommended pressures - a little bit soft in response and ultimate grip but this is only an issue if you are really pushing it hard. Unlike other bad weather tires there is no tendency for the rubber in the shoulders to wear rapidly and shed chunks of rubber when pushed very hard in the dry. The only area that could be improved is wear rate as they are down to my limit of 2.5mm after 18000 miles whereas a summer tire should last at least 25k in my use. A small price to pay for their fine all-weather performance.

I recently bought a set of wheels for my car which had these tires on them with virtually no wear on them, I thought I was getting a great deal, unfortunately the tires were not inflated when I got them and as soon as I inflated them there was a dangerous bulge in one tire so I had to replace it straight away.
I don't do much milage because of a company vehicle so I can't comment on wear but I have used them in the wet and can only say that they are shocking, in 34 years of driving, I have never come across such awful tires before, I would go so far as to say that they are dangerous in the wet.
I have seen reviews on here where people have said they were surprised that these tires were still being sold in this country, well some of them were 4 years ago and it seems they're still being sold....shocking!!.... DO NOT BUY THESE TYRES!!!

I had a set of these tires fitted to my wife's VW Golf Mk4 1.4 in 2011. They have now done 29,320 miles. Although a summer tire their grip in deep snow was excellent.

The tires are about 500kilometers old, so not so much testing yet, so far in Sweden sun and rain, very good grip and feeling, not so silent, but that's not cinturato p7 either, I have run on FK451 & FK452 before, and I just love them, cheap and with my street needs they all have done such a great job! I recommend Falken FK453
