This review is for the EcoContact 6Q BMW / Merc marked variant on a new U11 X1 150kW petrol with xDrive. These are frankly the worst new OEM fit tires I have encountered in numerous cars in well over a decade (I work in the industry). Dry grip was surprisingly poor with squeal setting in very early on mini roundabouts where no other vehicle has previously done so. A low speed (from 50km/h) emergency stop to avoid a car pulling out from a junction resulted in obvious sliding (in the dry!). Wet grip is slightly terrifying with unpredictable loss of the front end, once it goes it goes..! I have no idea how these were approved by BMW although I am sure they are have low rolling resistance.

Driving on a combination of roads for 17000 average miles
On my BMW X1 the front set lasted 17,000 miles compared with 24,000 miles for previous Michelins and 25,000 on original Bridgestones. Not impressive. Good grip and fairly quiet but not worth the money. Now trying Goodyear Efficient Grip

Just had my 2nd set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 fitted To my BMW X1 as i was very impressed with outstanding rim protection.
However my new set has 3mm ( 1/4" ) less
rim protection which is very visible, I've emailed Michelin and sent photos of both sets of tires and requested an explanation
however they have replied to say that they won't reply to my email, i shall choose another brand in future.

I was in a situation where I needed to replace both my winter tire set and my summer tire set. I came across these Nokian Weatherproofs and realised I would only have to buy one set, a considerable saving. I am really pleased with the tires, not much difference from the previous Pirelli runflats in the dry, but better grip in the wet but more comfortable. The beast from the East gave me a chance to evaluate their performance in snowy conditions and I was again pleased with the grip and braking properties, as good as the dedicated winter tires that I had previously. When in for servicing, the mechanic at the local garage said 'Those are good tires, all vehicles like yours should have them as standard'. With the weather that we have in the UK, it seems like a no-brainer for everyone to use decent all weather tires like these Nokians. If they continue to impress, I will fit them again in the future.

These tires came fitted new to my BMW X 1 4x4 and seem to have wasted the extra cost of the 4x4 system. In the recent snow these tires have resulted in having less grip than many 2 wheel drive cars. I would say that they verge on dangerous and have seen the car sledge at speed on snow downhill completely out of control. Dry weather grip is good and they are quiet, but really if the are poor in slippery conditions it negates all safety benefits. I cannot wait to get them off the car.

These tires should carrry a health warning THEY ARE ONLY SUMMER tires, they are lethal in the snow and ice, no grip whatsoever. Lucky not to have had an accident.
As Summer tires, fine no problem, wear rate good, noise level low, as winter tires leave the car in the Garage.
