Seven shared tests over four years, and the head to head record is four to three in the Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO's favor. Two premium all season tires, then, and two very different answers to the same question.
The Bridgestone is the wet weather tire. It braked shorter in the wet in five of seven tests, by 10.9 percent in our own 2022/23 test, 32m against 35.9m, and it won every single wet handling comparison, five from five. It also took four of five dry handling runs.
The Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2 is the winter tire of the two. It won snow handling in all six tests that measured it, snow traction in five of six, including a 29.5 percent margin in our 2022/23 test, and snow braking in four of six. It was also quieter in all six noise measurements and braked shorter in the dry in six of seven tests.
Conclusion
The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO is the one for rain. It stopped shorter in the wet in five of the seven shared tests, by 10.9 percent in our 2022/23 test and 5.5 percent in Auto Bild's 2021 tests, and it won all five wet handling comparisons, including 74.7km/h against 70.6km/h in 2021. It backed that with four of five dry handling wins and the better wet circle both times. That combination is why it finished ahead in four of the seven tests despite losing most of the snow work.
The Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2 is the one for winter and for refinement. It won all six snow handling comparisons, five of six snow traction runs, with 6.7s against 9.5s in our own 2022/23 test the widest, and four of six snow braking tests. It was quieter in every one of the six noise measurements, projected to last 9.5 percent longer in the only wear test between them, and it was the more comfortable tire in the subjective scores. We rated it highly recommended in our 2021 test, where it finished 2nd of 11 against the Bridgestone's 6th.
The awkward pair of results is the dry: the Pirelli braked shorter in six of seven tests while the Bridgestone was quicker through dry handling in four of five, so the two disagree about which tire is better on a dry road depending on whether you are stopping or turning.
