Subaru Impreza WRX 2006 Hawkeye Tire Review Highlights

This was the second set of these tires I have bought, but unfortunately never again for my Impreza.

I only noticed problems when I moved a pair from the front to the rear wheels having previously run Toyo Proxy R1s. The problem with the Uniroyal Rainsport 3 is the lack of strength in the tire wall. When cornering hard, the tire wall would collapse to nearly half its height and scuff mark could be seen around the tire wall, so much so the corner of the car would suddenly sink. The grip in the wet is superb and I’d have to wring the cars neck hard to get all four wheels spinning in the wet. The tread cuts through standing water very well and you feel safe on the motorway in very bad weather.

This tire is an excellent choice for a car that isn’t going to be thrown into bends and you want good stopping power in dry and more so wet driving conditions.

Not driven enough in the snow.

The dry grip is excellent aswell as the road feedback and handling. Some people have complained and said that the tire feels wobbly when turning - However, this is nothing I have felt during my time owning them. The wet grip is also overall good and I have driven in 150km/h when it has been raining like HELL NO, still without problems and with no tendence to aquaplane. The wear rate is a little bit higher, which comes as no suprise for this kind of performance tire. However, if you are considering this tire, also do consider if you can stand the high noise they will make.

Driving on mostly country roads for 13000 spirited miles
Owned the car from new...changed from original Bridgestone Potenza's when due(22,000 miles ...tires becoming harsher with age) but couldn't afford to replace them like for like...did some research and Toyo TR1's showed promise so bought locally for £100 each. Went to 225 x 45 x 17...been on 5 years now and acknowledge that the feel isn't as good now on fronts but back still spot on...the edges are getting to around 2.5mm but still loads in the centre...will replace in the next few months again more due to age than wear...generally performed well and I don't have anything negative to say about them
