BMW 140i xdrive Tire Review Highlights

Writing about the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport given 91% (225-40-18-)
Driving on mostly country roads for 5000 spirited miles
Amazing handling qualities with exceptional steering reactions and highly confidence inspiring in dry conditions. Very good dry grip with good wet grip for a UUHP tire. Nevertheless not a wet performance tire as reactions in the wet at the limit can be a little bit demanding for average driving skill (if the electronics are turned off completely). Good wear especially when driven hard and/or frequently at the limit or on the track (about 5000 miles and still look quite new / about 6 mm left with even wear in spite of driving excessively fast curves). Had before the Yokohama AD08R which I loved. Compared with these, grip is on a identical level but Goodyear demands less heat in the tire to result in same grip. Turn in of Goodyear is a little bit faster and more precise and both are a bit "meaty" and side walls are strong. Therefore only average tire pressure (2.4 bar) is required and tire remains reliable also under extreme driving conditions (no imprecise behaviour or reactions of the tire). Comfort is quite good for UUHP (at least as good as original MIchelin PSS tires).

Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 spirited miles
245/40/18 Fronts 265/35/18 Rears Got these on my stage 2+ 470bhp/710nm M140i. I had Goodyear Super Sports on and I didn’t really gel well with them. The road feedback was definitely better (had PS4 before the super sports) but for grip Wet & Dry the PS4 was much better. This new PS5 is the same story. Fantastic grip dry and wet, little less noisy than the PS4. However the same issue with the vague steering feel is there same as the PS4. You know you have the best of the best tire but it can be a little unpredictable if you do find the limits of the tire to know what the tires doing. It’s definitely noticeable after coming from the Goodyears to the Michelin’s but take nothing away the Michelin, it’s is in a different league IMO when it comes to my car and the way it’s set up anyway. I had quite a lot of traction issues with the Goodyears, didn’t seem to get the power down as smooth as I liked, and since going back to Michelin I can comfortably get the power down without my traction light thinking it’s Christmas flashing on and off. I’ll compensate the vague steering feel for the sheer grip you get back. My new choice of tire from now!

Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
Very convincing as a Sport tire in winter time. Side walls are not hard as I had them in my own hands when not on the rims. Thus at least 2.5 "bar" tire pressure required. Car reacts very good on steering wheel inputs for a winter tire. Did a lot of abuse last two months driving agressivly curvy roads at the limit (standard adaptive chassis but same tire dimension all around). Tires managed this very good with low wear. Dry grip is outstanding for winter tire and wet grip on an high level and good controllable. Feels sure footed. Conti 850P had slightly better grip in wet but dry was average. Comfort is below average (a bit hard for a winter tire and some unexpected noise at 120km/h / Limit in Switzerland) but overall still quiet for a winter tire.
