Uniroyal RainSport 3 Reviews - Page 13

Given 56% while driving a Volkswagen 1.8 20vT Sport (205/55 R15 W) on mostly motorways for 6,000 average miles
Best avoided due to being very fast wearing. Our previous Khumo KH31s lasted 22k miles while these were to the wear markers within 6k.

They may be cheap and provide great grip in wet and dry conditions but they wear more quickly than any tires I've ever had fitted.

Tire grips well in the dry and certainly in the wet. However when taking corners the sidewalls feel too soft. On the other side this tire is very comfortable. They wear fast because of the soft compound.

Given 49% while driving a Honda Civic Type R (205/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 2,000 average miles
Purchased a pair of the rain sport 3 tires for the front of my civic type r after reading reviews and having a couple of recommendations. I wont be buying these tires or recommending them to anyone in the future, they have completely worn out in less than 3000 miles and are on the limit, the grip in the wet is terrible and how they can be an A rated tire in the rain is beyond me. The sidewall feels really weak and feels like your over-steering. I have never been more disappointed with a set of tires and as said I won't be buying them again.

Given 90% while driving a SEAT Leon Cupra Tdi (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 200 average miles
So far i have had these on for about 2 days all corners. They are fitted to a small car with over 200bhp. I havent took the car through its paces yet, as just letting the tires bind in. I shall update this in the near future, but cornering has seriously improved and there are less wheel spins from 2nd gear, which i was previously getting with my previous tires. I shall not mention their make and model, as they were used tires that were on the car. What i did notice is the onboard computer showing more fuel consumption. Meaning the tires before were showing 55mpg to 65+mpg. Currently they are showing 45-55+mpg. This maybe because there is more Rolling resistance compared to the previous tires which had noticably less grip. And also the new tires need to wear in.

Went through a few puddles.on the motorway, at speed and did not notice any aqauaplanning, so pretty safe in the wet and thats how they are meant to be. The steering wheel doesnt vibrate at all, which i was previously experiencing.

If i can i will add to this and inform if they have improved or if there was a regression in their performance.

Currently i am at a happy place with these tires, and would fit them again and recommend them with full credibility, and they dont cost much at all.

Given 81% while driving a Ford Focus ST 225 (2003 2007) (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 0 spirited miles
I have run pilot Goodyear eagle F1 and Michelin pilot sport 3 on my modified Focus ST225
So far i have to say for the price they are the best.

Amazing in the wet on level par with premium tires on the dry.
The side wall is a bit softer but only under extreme cornering a problem i solved by Nitro filling them.
Will definitely by again.
Not so sure on the wear as i have only has the tires for 3 months

Given 96% while driving a Ford 05 Mondeo 185 (modded) diesel (205/55 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 20 spirited miles
My final review of these tires.
At first they were unbelievably good, dry and wet. They did 10k miles and I swopped the fronts for the rears, another 10k and it's just about all over for them. So they've lasted for almost 20k miles and for 18k of those miles they've been excellent. Frankly the best tire I've ever bought. The last 2k or so they have been going off, not losing grip as such, but the confidence is now lacking in them, they are starting to feel a bit "woolly" and driving over white lines in the wet is a little alarming.
20k miles in a remapped Mondy that's been tuned for torque is very impressive.
I would definitely recommend these tires as they've been so good. But just be aware that they drop over "the edge" pretty quickly.

Given 81% while driving a Volkswagen Passat CC (235/35 R19) on mostly motorways for 13,000 spirited miles
Front two tires have just reached the limit after a year (approx 13,000 miles), rears still have about 5mm left.
Pros:
Grip in the dry is excellent with the grip in the wet not far behind.
Feedback is also good and lets you really feel when you are approaching the limit (although sport springs were put into the car at the same time as the tires went on which will have improved road feedback).
Cons:
Fronts did wear out rather quick although I did expect this considering the levels of grip on offer.
Comfort was somewhat lacking, this being a low profile tire I really did feel every bump, cats eye etc.. However the worst part was the road noise which was horrendous on rough surfaces or rumble strips although it was bearable on the motorway or at low speeds through the town.
Won't be replacing the front tires with these this time, going to try something different but could be an option for the rears again.

Given 46% while driving a Skoda Octavia (205/55 R16) on a combination of roads for 8,000 spirited miles
I had high hopes for these as I liked the rain sport 2. After 8 months (8000 miles) they have completely worn out on the front. They also had horrible feedback in the corners. They would understeer to start with and then all of a sudden turn in, very disconcerting.

Trying Michelin Primacy 3 this time

Given 71% while driving a Volvo (235/45 R17 W) on mostly country roads for 9,000 average miles
I've just had the Rainsport 3 tires replaced on the front of my Volvo V60 D5. They were good tires, providing excellent amounts of grip and a very confident drive in all weather conditions. Fairly comfortable ride, but not as comfortable as Rainsport 2 that I had previously.

The only downside was the wear rate. Just over 9,000 miles and they were down to the legal limit.

I've had Hankooks fitted this time around, only time will tell if they're any better.

Given 61% while driving a Mazda 3 2.2D 150 (205/50 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 20,000 easy going miles
Had rainsport 2s on my focus and now my Mazda 3. Generally satisfied so fitted the RS3 to the rears. Have become very noisy (drone) over the last 2-4 months; having today put my winter tires on I can see why!

Both inside rears have worn down whilst the next solid tread band appears to have worn less that the remaining outer tread! Recent 4 wheel laser checking confirms tracking spot on, Driving gentle & mainly motorway.

Grip etc fine but won't buy again due to wear and therefore noise. Pleasure to be on my winter michelins.

Given 84% while driving a Alfa Romeo (205/55 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 13,000 spirited miles
These tires are on front axle of my Alfa Romeo 156 1.9Jtd(remapped to 186 hp/430Nm). After 13.000 miles they are worn down to 2mm.
I am dynamic driver, like fast cornering, so wear rate isn't too bad for a soft grippy tires. They are superb in wet, no spinnig wheel at all, braking is good too. Dry cornering is good, but they don't reach same leveles of premium sport tires-but they are still very good. Nosie level is acceptable.
They are not super sporty tires, but they are very safe in cold wet conditions.

Given fact that they are down to 2 mm they lost very little of their gripp.
Shall I buy them again? I just did. At 41£ pre tire they are unbeatable.

Given 79% while driving a Smart roadster (205/45 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
I had a pair of these on the rear of my smart Roadster as the Proxes they replaced would step out in wet weather. They are not lying when they say these are THE wet weather tire. They just would not lose grip in the wet. And were pretty phenomenal in the dry too. The only real down side was the wear time. 15k in a not particularly heavy or powerful car and they were done. Going to try the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 2 next as I've heard good things about them.
