Toyo T1R Reviews - Page 15

Given 74% while driving a Ford Fiesta (195/50 R15) on track for 2,000 spirited miles
I use them to get to and from circuits on my road legal trackday car and on track if it is wet. I have used them in the dry but find the sidewalls a little too soft for fast cornering and after 4-5 laps they lose their edge. In the wet, they are fine on the road, but not confidence inspiring on track.

Given 60% while driving a Mitsubishi Evo 4 (205/50 R16) on mostly country roads for 10,000 average miles
Went off recomendation with these tires, but found they felt almost jelly like when pushing on, thought it would improve when worn in more but never really got confident.

From talking to others they seem better in a lower profile than I was running

Given 84% while driving a Peugeot 306 GTI6 (195/50 R15 V) on mostly country roads for 15 spirited miles
Cheap, safe, good wearing if you drive normal, excellent grip, wet grip is OK but not for track use (Uniroyal Rainsport 2's for that).

Had the current set over 2 years, and they get USED! Amazing.

Given 87% while driving a Smart Brabus (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 8,500 spirited miles
Excellent tire.Fitted on a tuned smart roadster that has 115HP the car does't have the power to make this tire lose its grip whatever you ask from it. PERFECT on dry roads of ANY temperature and excelent in the wet.

Also driven with this tire an AUDI S3 and still the same levels of progressiveness and high levels of grip. These tire squeeled a lot on the s3 in fast bends but they definitely did not let go at any point.

Wear level is medium but yet again i am driving mostly like a complete lunatic on tarmac that is LAVA hot as the temperatures in my country in the summer are 40-45 degrees celcius.

13000 KM of lunatic driving and some signs of wear are begining to show
Definitaly reccommend

Given 87% while driving a Audi TT (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 12,000 spirited miles
From brand new on all four corners I slid across the road to get the new sheen off, and that was it, they haven't slipped or budged in their entire life of spirited driving and survived all conditions. Even got me around in the snow ok (not that I'd recommend using summer tires in the snow).

Alas, they're soft as putty and on the quality of the roads around here, and my heavy right foot they haven't lasted.

Given 69% while driving a Ford Mondeo ST220 (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 6,000 average miles
They are ok tires but do not have the grip of Continentals or Mitchelins. Good in the wet but lack of grip and understeer in the dry. On track grip not as good as I would have expected with the brakes out doing the tires with constant lock ups under heavy braking (100mph to 30mph). Grip in the colder weather is not good, wet or dry, these really are a summer tire.

Given 70% while driving a Volkswagen Golf MK3 GTi 16v (205/50 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 50,000 spirited miles
Long term review: I have used these on my Golf MK3 GTi 16v from when I purchased it (60K) until today (114K). The grip in the dry is excellent - better anything else I have tried to date, wet grip is average, but the wear rate is not particularly good as they are made from a softer compound than most tires. I have gone through quite a few sets since I purchased the car, I reckon I averaged about 12K from the fronts. The tires provide good feedback, and are fairly progressive.

I decided to try another tire. Although the Toyos were cheap (?55 each + fitting) I started to think that I could get better value for money elsewhere by trying a similar performing tire which wears less. I decided to go for the Uniroyal Rainsport II since those, the Toyos, and the Kumho KU31 are the only credible performance tires for 205/50/15. I have only had the Rainsport IIs on for a few days but I am astonished at how good they are. The dry grip is at least as good as the Toyos, but road feedback, progressiveness, and wet grip are far superior. I paid ?65 each including fitting and balancing so the price difference between them and the Toyos are negligible. I am now hoping they will last longer too.

I've just bought my second set of T1-R's, the first lasted 20,000 miles switching front and rear at 16k. They are louder than eco tires but that doesn't matter. You don't buy performance tires and criticise them for eco/noise. T1-R's are outstanding in heavy wet weather, they never aquaplane or struggle for grip in anything up to several cm of standing water and you can apply full throttle mid corner in torrential rain and no difficulty putting the power down to the road. These are the reason I bought them first time round, and they are so good I bought them again.

Also from a childish point of view the amout of water they clear on roads means your car throws up huge rooster tails of spray like an F1 car in the wet and noone can stay within five car lengths, thats fun.

Given 73% while driving a Vauxhall Corsa (195/45 R15) on a combination of roads for 4,000 spirited miles
Pretty good on my corsa, found the fronts wore down VERY quickly, they lasted around 2 months. Swopped to Proxie 4s and found them to handle the same, wear better & theyre cheaper!

Given 66% while driving a MG ZS (205/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 12,000 spirited miles
The TOYO T1R's are a good tire and had various sets over the last 6 years, they average about 8-12k miles before they need replacing, good grip in the dry and wet, do tend to slide when they wear down though being a soft compound, but due to new noise regs in 2011 they are not producing now, so went for Hankook K110, lets see how these perform.

Given 91% while driving a Renault Cilo 1.2 Extreme (195/55 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 25,000 spirited miles
I bought a full set of these amazing tires last September, I had covered around 25000 miles on the set - 20000 on front, 25000 on rear, and remember all the ice and snow, well these tires gripped quite well & I believe they have worn very very well! Before these I had a set of Michelin energy fuel saving tires on which were reasonable. I unfortunately have had to replace my proxies now and have gone with the continental/barum bravuis 2, which are a very good contender in regard to grip, wear, feedback, noise level and progressiveness. I will buy a new set of proxies after I have worn my current set and would definitely reccomend these tires for cars up to 200bhp

Given 81% while driving a Volkswagen Golf Mk3 VR6 (225/45 R17) on mostly country roads for 10,000 spirited miles
Really pleased with these tires, dry grip is awesome, wet grip is fantastic as well. Good feedback and they gradually let go when pushed.
