Toyo T1R Reviews - Page 14

Given 89% while driving a Audi A6 (235/50 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 33,000 average miles
Good wear, much higher than expected. Mine is 53.000km and still has some rubber. Excelent traction on dry and wet asphalt. Very good resistance to pot holes.

Very good grip in the dry - on a par with ContiSportContact 3 and 2's.

Not so good in the wet - the tire felt terrible even on straight line motorway driving as it squirmed over every bump in the road.

Wear rate is very poor - 0.5mm in 500 miles is not what I class to be good value for money.

Overall a good dry weather tire. I wouldn't trust them in the wet though, hence I sold them on (at a loss) with 7.5mm tread remaining and bought another set of Conti's instead.

Given 93% while driving a Mazda MX5 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
Went to the T1R (215 40 17) from Bridgestone Potenza on an MX5. What a difference! The T1R has all the positive aspects of the Potenza PLUS a very smooth and comfortable ride. Gone is the shock and jar over anything except very smooth tarmac, gone is the distinctive road noise and gone is the overpricing. An excellent swap and one I warmly recommend.

Given 69% while driving a Citroën C5 (215/55 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
An excellent all round tire, dry grip is excellent, wet grip is also very confidence inspiring, steering feel is good too. Slightly noisier than some tires but comfort is good. These are due for replacement after only 10K miles in total, 4K of which were on the rear, 6K on the front. My driving is spirited and the car is heavy, but to go through a pair of tires in 10K is a little worse than i was expecting. Despite having the correct pressures the edges are bald. However given the grip they offer and for the price, im very tempted to go for these again. My rear tires are new Michelin Primacy HPs as i wanted something which would last, but on pricing up Toyos and Michies, the T1-Rs are ?100 a pair cheaper than the Michelins. So im tempted to go for these again, they are very impressive for grip and feel. Though the Uniroyal Rainsport2s are just as tempting.

Given 81% while driving a Honda MB6 Vti (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 9,000 spirited miles
I think for the money i can't get a better gripping tire. I've driven this car with 2 other brands beforehand and the difference with these was unreal. They've lasted for me 9k which is good considering the amount of roundaboutsin my area etc and abuse they have taken. I still do 0-60 runs in the dry and no sign of wheel spin where as the previous ones when new would spin no probs. Can't complain for ?65 a corner.

Given 84% while driving a Mazda 323f 1.8 GT (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 4,000 average miles
I travelled across Europe on them. Did 6600km with speeds up to 200km/h on German autobahns. Did also Nurburgring on them. Really happy with them, especially on wet.

Given 79% while driving a Audi A2 (185/50 R16 V) on mostly motorways for 60,000 spirited miles
After trying out Goodyear & Michelin, I find the TOYO-T1R gives the best ultimate grip levels. The tradeoff is they wear out faster than others, but as they are priced mid-level, more frequent replacement doesn't necessarily mean more expense.
Maybe sidewall twist under cornering gives fractionally less precision than some others, but its barely noticeable.
They can aquaplane, even when new, in deep water but I'm not sure any others would be any better. Grip on ice is also v poor, but that's not unexpected for a summer tire.
Overall I'm happy with this tire and have bought about 8 now.

Given 74% while driving a Suzuki swift sport (205/45 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 20,000 spirited miles
Very good value for money. Good on dry, nearly exceptional on wet. They have poor sidewalls though and thus provide less feedback than they should for a sporty tire.

Their soft compound means that they are very easy to heat and perform really good even if cold in a chilly winter day, the grip levels on the wet are really good with limited aquaplaning but the wear is more than one can handle, especially if one likes to drive fast on his favorite country road.

Do NOT try them on track, they will dissipate if driven with a stiff setup.

Given 54% while driving a Toyota Starlet GT Turbo (195/50 R15 V) on mostly country roads for 7,000 spirited miles
Replaced a set of well worn Goodyear Eagle f1s with these. The car had a tendancy to tram line with the eagles but once the proxes were fitted this problem was remedied. I was very impressed with the tires dry handling abilitits however on a wet or even slightly damp surface they gave me very little confidence. The fronts are just on the wear markers now after 7000 miles so they will be replaced with a tire better suited to wet conditions like the uniroyal rainsport 2. For the price (??200 fitted) I would consider buying these again but only as a summer tire

Given 91% while driving a Volkswagen Polo 1.4 8v (195/45 R15) on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Very good tires for the price. Extremely good grip when drip and just as good in the wet. They arnt the quietest tire but no bad at all. Would buy again no doubt.

Given 67% while driving a Ford Fiesta (225/45 R17) on mostly town for 0 average miles
For under ?50 fully fitted these are a bargin! Very good grip level both dry and wet. Only downside is the will wear out at about 10K miles, even on a 1.4! My previous Pierrill P600 were Sh*t especially in the wet.

Given 76% while driving a Nissan 160SR (185/50 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 1,000 spirited miles
Just bought a set of these to replace Kuhmo KH11 tires. I've not has them long and the road feedback is slightly woolier, probably due to the rim protector sidewalls. The real revelation is the lack of steering wheel buzz and the quietness of the ride, motorway driving is so much more relaxing now!

Only downside is they knocked a consistent 0.4 seconds of my qurter mile time at Santa Pod, probably because of the stickier compound, something that would probably improve quarter mile times on a more powerful car.
