Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tire tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

Top 3 Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX Reviews

Given 70% while driving a Toyota Landcruiser (285/70 R18) on a combination of roads for 40,000 average miles
Great tires, seemingly impervious to sidewall attacks by sharp rocks, but the ride is truly terrible - they feel like solids.

Given 73% while driving a Toyota 78 Landcruser Troopy (225/65 R17) on a combination of roads for 24,600 spirited miles
Exceptional as an on & off road semi aggressive all terrain all rounder. I carry a lot of weight & tow a trailer, as a result the distance I achieve is surprising. Aggressive road usage requires regular rotation to avoid uneven front end wear...

Given 83% while driving a Mitsubishi shogun sport (265/60 R18) on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
A very off road capable, on road friendly tire... Its a hybrid or rugged construction, sitting between an AT and a MT... Tire choice is always a compromise, but the Cooper ST Maxx tread a fine line and provide a good balance....

Latest Cooper Discoverer ST MAXX Reviews

Given 61% while driving a Nissan Pathfinder (265/65 R17) on a combination of roads for 6,000 spirited miles
Had the Cooper ST MAXX tires 6 months, lasting very well, great in the dry, not so great wet & greasy surface especially when ambient sub 5 degrees C. I don't think these tires are winter rated at all, more summer tire. I have always ran BF Goodrich At's, the BFG's are definitely better in the wet. But they are £40-£50 extra per tire. The Coopers look awesome, and I'll run these until worn or I sell the truck. I will be going back to BF's on my next tire purchase.

Given 90% while driving a Land Rover Discovery 1 1996 (245/75 R16) on mostly town for 3,000 easy going miles
Had these fitted new to my old Discovery 300Tdi as an upgrade, and they were a great choice.

As quiet as a road bias tire despite the chunky looks, were surprisingly grippy on tarmac in the wet or dry, (never aqua planed for example and were always grippy and progressive) and obviously didn't have any issues in grassy fields. I never had the opportunity to take them offroad seriously, but I suspect they'd be a safe choice given the tread pattern. I had them on for about 3000 miles before I sold the truck, and the tires had barely started to wear at that point. I had no issues with punctures or tears and in fact I'm looking for the same again for my current Discovery V8.
